Someone enlighten me... the Anel sending off

Can you post vids/links of these incidents from last season?
I remember seeing them but can't remember which games, definitely 1 at lane happened right in front of south stand. Think it was hamer that had his neck throttled

Not smart. Could have easily got him back slyly during the course of the game, instead he didn't even do a good job of it whilst getting a red card.

I found this on the other Anel thread

People say there is no bias against us but in the last 12+ months I have seen our players smashed in the face with an elbow on a number of occasions with and without VAR available along with opposition players grabbing our player by the face or neck.

In many cases not so much as a telling off or a free kick never mind a booking or a red card. This latest generation of refs for whatever reason have let some serious incidents go.

Too right. So many wrongs in this.

I disliked how the Coventry player acted after Anel was sent off. Winked at his teammates and acted clever about it. That type of thing should be stopped. Deliberately winding a player up like that. Shows they planned it.cheating twats.

Laughable how pissy our fans have been over this.

Yeah Bassette was a cunt but it's football. Since the beginning of time players have tried to wind the opposition up to get a reaction.

He played Anel like a fiddle.

Yeah, better and more experienced players than Anel have reacted to provocation but it was still naive of him and he let his team down.

Some of the comments I've seen make us look like wet wipes and cry babies. Wouldn't be surprised either that some of the biggest whingers lapped it up when Billy tried to goad opposition players and left a bit on here and there.
Anels a very experienced player with hundreds of games under his belt, how he allowed an inexperienced kid to wind him up so much is baffling

Exactly. I don't think many (if any) disagree the red was inevitable but I think most are pissed off that he couldn't see it coming considering how Bassett had been at him all half. With that being said in hindsight it's easy to say we'd have laughed it off or not risen to it, we've all got tempers. He was stupid to let it boil over but the difference between Bassett and Abel yesterday was Bassett shithoused when no one was looking, Anel didn't.

I am however disappointed there's zero repercussion for Coventry. I'm not asking for points, I'm not asking for theirs to be removed I am however annoyed despite the literal cheating being caught on plenty of cameras and being discussed they aren't receiving some form of warning or fine from the FA. Players like him make an absolute mockery if the game and it should be stomped out quicky.

The whole point of shithousing is to get away with one. You also need three things in place:

A shithouse - and we certainly found a Maupay-grade one in this one
Someone to fall for the shithousery and come off worse - Anel did so whatever the provocation etc.; and..........crucially......
a fan base to get triggered by it.

chapeau to Bassette - he's executed it perfectly. All the people calling for Chris Morgan style justice to be served or even whinging about only a yellow etc. are completely missing the point.

There's enough evidence for a retrospective ban for the player and a fine for Coventry. This type of stuff needs stamping out

Hands on neck or face have been a red card for absolute years !?!?
I do believe a forearm smash and a neck grab from behind is still a sending of offence but the clever cunt got away with it due a dozy referee and a blind linesman.

Was fuming at the game but hard to argue it wasn’t a red. The march up to him and then the shove just gave the ref the option to send him off. Was hoping for lenience given the provocation

Pretty sure the ‘victim’ had a couple of dives before the incident with one being in the box, which they did get penalised for in the 2nd half. If he’d have booked him for one of those, the shithousing stops. If, buts and maybes.

Most disappointing is that it was gearing up to be a cracking 2nd half and the way they were getting through us, who knows, they might have gone on to win it with the game more opened up.

The red wouldn't have happened if the ref had given the blatant foul on Anel seconds earlier.

Also Bassette went down holding his face, faking injury, so I think he should be given a yellow card. The ref saw it was a light push in the neck - holding his face and screaming was clearly play acting.

Totally agree that they should walk for throttling people as well. Doesn't make me think Anel shouldn't have been sent off for one second though.
A lack of consistency in refereeing again.

In the old days (not the good old days) before mass TV coverage we didn't see the inconsistency and games were refereed on an individual basis.
The likes of Saturday's incident might have been dealt with by a good talking to and advice to stop acting like spoilt brats.
All the attempted consistency has just led to lots of yellow cards for nothing incidents and endless discussions re arms in unnatural positions etc, etc....
Don't know where it will end - as long as AI doesn't take over.

It looked to me like Anel had gone for a run of the mill shove not really going for his neck per se (still a stupid thing to do, like) but letter of the law says “raised hands” (I.e. hands to face/neck) are a red card.

Ruined what was an entertain game and provides more encouragement for players to dive/play act.

So I get that in "modern day football", the rules are that Anel raising his hands results in a sending off and he had to go.

But not so long ago, the approach would not have been to send the player off. The referee would have just got both players together, given them a massive bollocking, made them shake hands and that would probably have been the end of that.

So why on earth are we in this situation where a bit of silly handbags in a physical contact sport results in a sending off. Surely the current rules just encourage cheating like we saw today from that Coventry player

How in football have we got to this situation and why can't we go back?
Cos the sporting and media world and those thoroughly invested in it make more money from controversy.
Simplistic perhaps but is there anything left unspoiled by money and its enduring ability to hand morality it's arse on a plate🤔💩
