Anels a very experienced player with hundreds of games under his belt, how he allowed an inexperienced kid to wind him up so much is bafflingLaughable how pissy our fans have been over this.
Yeah Bassette was a cunt but it's football. Since the beginning of time players have tried to wind the opposition up to get a reaction.
He played Anel like a fiddle.
Yeah, better and more experienced players than Anel have reacted to provocation but it was still naive of him and he let his team down.
Some of the comments I've seen make us look like wet wipes and cry babies. Wouldn't be surprised either that some of the biggest whingers lapped it up when Billy tried to goad opposition players and left a bit on here and there.
Makes you wonder what the little idiot said to him when anel was on the groundAnels a very experienced player with hundreds of games under his belt, how he allowed an inexperienced kid to wind him up so much is baffling
Exactly. I don't think many (if any) disagree the red was inevitable but I think most are pissed off that he couldn't see it coming considering how Bassett had been at him all half. With that being said in hindsight it's easy to say we'd have laughed it off or not risen to it, we've all got tempers. He was stupid to let it boil over but the difference between Bassett and Abel yesterday was Bassett shithoused when no one was looking, Anel didn't.Anels a very experienced player with hundreds of games under his belt, how he allowed an inexperienced kid to wind him up so much is baffling
There's enough evidence for a retrospective ban for the player and a fine for Coventry. This type of stuff needs stamping outExactly. I am however disappointed there's zero repercussion for Coventry. I'm not asking for points, I'm not asking for theirs to be removed I am however annoyed despite the literal cheating being caught on plenty of cameras and being discussed they aren't receiving some form of warning or fine from the FA. Players like him make an absolute mockery if the game and it should be stomped out quicky.
I do believe a forearm smash and a neck grab from behind is still a sending of offence but the clever cunt got away with it due a dozy referee and a blind linesman.Hands on neck or face have been a red card for absolute years !?!?
Remember Roy Keane and Harland? Be afraid my little Belgian gobshiteMakes you wonder what the little idiot said to him when anel was on the ground
For anyone who didn't see this at the time. I don't advocate Anel doing this - maybe something a little more subtle:Remember Roy Keane and Harland? Be afraid my little Belgian gobshite
Totally agree that they should walk for throttling people as well. Doesn't make me think Anel shouldn't have been sent off for one second though.I found this on the other Anel thread
In the old days (not the good old days) before mass TV coverage we didn't see the inconsistency and games were refereed on an individual basis.Totally agree that they should walk for throttling people as well. Doesn't make me think Anel shouldn't have been sent off for one second though.
A lack of consistency in refereeing again.
It looked to me like Anel had gone for a run of the mill shove not really going for his neck per se (still a stupid thing to do, like) but letter of the law says “raised hands” (I.e. hands to face/neck) are a red card.In the old days (not the good old days) before mass TV coverage we didn't see the inconsistency and games were refereed on an individual basis.
The likes of Saturday's incident might have been dealt with by a good talking to and advice to stop acting like spoilt brats.
All the attempted consistency has just led to lots of yellow cards for nothing incidents and endless discussions re arms in unnatural positions etc, etc....
Don't know where it will end - as long as AI doesn't take over.
Cos the sporting and media world and those thoroughly invested in it make more money from controversy. So I get that in "modern day football", the rules are that Anel raising his hands results in a sending off and he had to go.
But not so long ago, the approach would not have been to send the player off. The referee would have just got both players together, given them a massive bollocking, made them shake hands and that would probably have been the end of that.
So why on earth are we in this situation where a bit of silly handbags in a physical contact sport results in a sending off. Surely the current rules just encourage cheating like we saw today from that Coventry player
How in football have we got to this situation and why can't we go back?
