A little perspective is needed in the warm afterglow of a heavy day’s drinking. We limped past an out of form, team of 10 men with nothing to play for. A team so bad, that they’d not won an away game since November. Quite probably the worst Forest side I’ve seen in a long while.

We approached it in the very same manner as we had done a week earlier against Millwall, despite CW bitching in the press. After all the shouting & kerfuffling in the aftermath of that game, we still dropped deep after scoring, messing about with formations and attempted to see things out yesterday. The only difference being that he brought the worse midfielder currently on our books on, instead of the second worst and we got very lucky with a 2nd goal, provided by a wing back, something that his more attacking colleagues seemed impotent to provide.

Our play for the most part yesterday was disjointed and without tempo. No one prepared to take the game by the scruff of the next. It looks like the switch to a more direct style of play hasn’t meshed with everyone. Using Madine as an unfocused focal point. Nobody appears to play off of him in a traditional sense, and he doesn’t appear to know what his teammates are doing. Norwood still played too deep, as did McG, who must be the most frustrating strike partner. We still lack mobility and pace in the final 3rd, both from a front line going beyond the defence and from a midfield capable of breaking through the lines.

Then, through more luck than judgement Wigan manage to put in a defensive performance akin to Rourkes Drift and we miraculously find ourselves back in 2nd. CWAK can’t claim any credit for that. They showed a resolve that we’d been unable to show against both an inferior Bristol City and Millwall. Yesterday we stood on the shoulders of Wigan and with 3 games left, promotion is ours to toss away. Again.

We face a competent and dangerous Hull side on Monday, one with a promotion challenging quality home form. Their manager has also now found a more receptive home & group of players, to his teachings. If we don’t liven up and quickly, we could be in for a beating and be made to look very average. Hull score goals at home.

As a final point, I think it’s odd that whenever play someone, they think we’re shit. They don’t say the same about Norwich, Leeds or Villa. A word of warning; we’re Sheffield United, don’t believe the hype.
So it took you till after four in the morning to come up with that? Pahh :D;)

So Leeds are odds on to fuck up again when they play Villa :)

I have to admit, it's getting harder and harder for me to remain upbeat, and taking me longer and longer to construct positive posts. I fear we'll fall short.
I also find that it’s best to err on the side of caution as I get older NC. Never look too far ahead with United and always carry a spare set of underpants is what I always say. :)

You might be right, you might be wrong, but if we keep doing what we’re doing in the last 30 mins of games, chances are we’ll get taken to the cleaners eventually. It might be on Monday, it might not; it might not happen this season & we get lucky, it might happen in the play offs against a team better than either Millwall or Forest. Who knows, certainly not a knownowt like me. :)
It’s not about being right or wrong. I think we are agreeing in that performances aren’t what they have been. It’s our differing outlooks on the how and why which makes me feel sorry for you. These times as a Unitedite should only make you happy.

Nic, serious question. Given your inclination towards pessimism, how many relationships have you had that lasted the course? Or are you quite simply a miserable bugger who finds little of worth in anything that comes your way? Even at this late stage, I hope you find something, be it Blades related or not, that brings a measure of joy.

Some have said we were blowing it as we lost our 4th league game in 2019 v bristol

but leeds went on to lose their 7th league game of 2019

since christmas weve closed a 7 point gap

Not sure if I misunderstood your post but what are the four league games we have lost in 2019?

He’s been at the ale.

"I have of late, (but wherefore I know not) lost all my mirth, forgone all custom of exercises; and indeed, it goes so heavily with my disposition; that this goodly frame the earth, seems to me a sterile promontory; this most excellent canopy the air, look you, this brave o'er hanging firmament, this majestical roof, fretted with golden fire: why, it appeareth no other thing to me, than a foul and pestilent congregation of vapours. What a piece of work is man, How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty, In form and moving how express and admirable, In action how like an Angel, In apprehension how like a god, The beauty of the world, The paragon of animals. And yet to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man delights not me; no, nor Woman neither."

So, let's get this right, you're not aroused by men or women, the world you inhabit offers little that you'd describe as pleasing, and your humour (dictionary definition) can barely lift itself off the canvas. Correct?

"Oh so sad is he who cannot grasp the essence of this short stay we are offered, where the range of experience is ours to consume, where the lesser amongst us succeeds in bringing down those closest to them. Pity anyone amongst us who cannot see what stands before their very eyes"

'Miserable twat' would've sufficed. :)

I don't quite get how anyone can be so downbeat after yesterday unless they are a Leeds fan, my god there are some miserable buggers on this thread. I'll be quite happy to see three more shit performances if we win them 1-0 with shot taking a deflection off a defenders knob end, I reckon there won't be many Leeds scum raving about how good their performance looked yesterday. Forget the match stats the only stats that matter are the goals for and goals against at this stage of the season.

The answer's 'none' then.
