Thanks Chris, Alan, Players. It will hopefully go our way, if not, you have brought back the esprit de corp. WE
ARE BLADES, WE ARE BLADES. A job well done Sir.
I love you Chris and I want your babies. Not really but you know what I mean.

A little perspective is needed in the warm afterglow of a heavy day’s drinking. We limped past an out of form, team of 10 men with nothing to play for. A team so bad, that they’d not won an away game since November. Quite probably the worst Forest side I’ve seen in a long while.

We approached it in the very same manner as we had done a week earlier against Millwall, despite CW bitching in the press. After all the shouting & kerfuffling in the aftermath of that game, we still dropped deep after scoring, messing about with formations and attempted to see things out yesterday. The only difference being that he brought the worse midfielder currently on our books on, instead of the second worst and we got very lucky with a 2nd goal, provided by a wing back, something that his more attacking colleagues seemed impotent to provide.

Our play for the most part yesterday was disjointed and without tempo. No one prepared to take the game by the scruff of the next. It looks like the switch to a more direct style of play hasn’t meshed with everyone. Using Madine as an unfocused focal point. Nobody appears to play off of him in a traditional sense, and he doesn’t appear to know what his teammates are doing. Norwood still played too deep, as did McG, who must be the most frustrating strike partner. We still lack mobility and pace in the final 3rd, both from a front line going beyond the defence and from a midfield capable of breaking through the lines.

Then, through more luck than judgement Wigan manage to put in a defensive performance akin to Rourkes Drift and we miraculously find ourselves back in 2nd. CWAK can’t claim any credit for that. They showed a resolve that we’d been unable to show against both an inferior Bristol City and Millwall. Yesterday we stood on the shoulders of Wigan and with 3 games left, promotion is ours to toss away. Again.

We face a competent and dangerous Hull side on Monday, one with a promotion challenging quality home form. Their manager has also now found a more receptive home & group of players, to his teachings. If we don’t liven up and quickly, we could be in for a beating and be made to look very average. Hull score goals at home.

As a final point, I think it’s odd that whenever play someone, they think we’re shit. They don’t say the same about Norwich, Leeds or Villa. A word of warning; we’re Sheffield United, don’t believe the hype.

I’m nervous too mate..

We did keep a clean sheet though, and score two goals..

One hurdle at a time.. we can almost see the finish line

I agree Nic ^^^. We're lacking that killer instinct. Forest were desperately poor and with those two clowns in charge it will only get worse, but - even down to ten men - there were signs that we were going to retreat and invite them on a la Millwall. How we can have all eleven back, defending a corner or free kick with absolutely no outlet such as Didsy, is beyond me. Likewise, why were we pissing about in the last 10-15 minutes? If Leeds had beaten Wigan by just one goal, our superior GD would have been just +5 and that could be the difference in us going up or them. That was the time to fill our boots and gain that 'extra point'.

Still, it's again back in our hands. Three games to go and thank God there's not a Norwich, Leeds, Villa, West Brom (or Wednesday) still to play. But it will swing again - highly likely on Monday. (Hull won't 'have their flip-flops on' even though their play-off hopes have all but gone. They're young professionals who are playing for their futures.)

Special praise for the crowd yesterday. Like the players and CW/AK, for many we're entering unchartered waters and the nerves are there. The crowd haven't been 'quiet', they just want any reason to get behind the team.

Just deep anal, yeah, we know.

I really can’t get my head around the mood by some on this board, it’s as if we have already done it! With our recent performances, I’m not even confident that we will beat Ipswich for god sake.

Yes, it’s great to have our destiny back in our own hands, but we can all surely agree that this is far from over. Let’s just try to keep a little calm for the time being.

We are not at our best at the moment and we were dropping too deep against very average opposition. But, I was talking with a Leeds fan last night who had watched our game before he went to Ellland Road. He was obviously a bit downbeat but made some good points.
It's about getting results and taking opportunities. Very similar situations yesterday as both our opponents went down to 10 men. Leeds had numerous chances and didn't have the composure to make them count. in contrast, Duffy found some space, took a touch and produced a great finish.
I really liked the second goal, great tackle from Fleck, positive run with the ball from Didsy and up pops a wingback who had fun half the length of the pitch then had the ability and calmness to place the ball in the corner.
We don't necessarily need a superb 90 minutes, just that bit of magic. It's going to be tough on Monday but it won't be settled then anyway.
My Leeds mate said "it's yours, we are not mentally strong enough" .
what a rollercoaster, let's enjoy it because these times are few and far between.
Come on Blades!!!

We have the chance to keep the pressure piled on Leeds in the next two as we kick off before them.

If we beat Hull & Ipswich we could be top should Norwich fail to beat Stoke on Monday as we kick off before them next week too. What a time to hit the top of the table that would be!

Completely agree.

Thank fuck we weren’t playing a team with the worst away record in the league yesterday , that had only managed 7 points away all season , until yesterday, had a man sent off went a goal down , then came back to beat us 2-1
O and we missed a penalty as well ,
At this time of the season , it’s about results and points you get ( ask toytown about performances) we got 3 to go second Leeds lost to drop to 3rd
In the history books it says
Sheffield United 2 Nottingham Forest 0
Leeds 1 Wigan 2
Doesn’t say how bad you played just how you got there
Shit displays and 3 more 1-0 wins will do me
We deserve to be where we are end of fucking story ,
Good to see “Blades” yeah right back out backing our team again ffs

I completely agree it is about results at this stage of the season, but the reason we have dropped points recently is that we have ended up trying to grind out the wins too often.

Hopefully yesterday will give us the confidence to put in some good performances in our final matches. Hull is going to be a match where if we don’t play well we could easily lose.

Spot on.

We need to grind out more points than DirtyLeeds. We don't need wonderful performances, we need grit application and some scruffy goals.

Stop beating the lads up. Yesterday Leeds bottled it after we did our job. They are the facts and that is all that matters. Navel gazing over a dodgy 15 minute spell in the second half is irrelevant .

We won.

DirtyLeeds didn't

And hopefully not play like last season ( Hull ) that is , I get what Blades fans are saying about the performances , I want us to smash teams like earlier in the season who doesn’t want to see villa and pig like performances ( at home )
But like I said will any of us really care if we win
1-0 for next 3 games won’t be pretty , won’t be good for any of our nerves or hearts ,
But if you offered it to Leeds what do you think there response would be
Where not used to seeing our team play to grind out results, for the last 3 seasons it’s not what we’ve been watching
But right now to get promotion I’d take it

It’s the business end of the season in the most competitive division in Europe. We just have to keep on grinding it out.

Absolutely pathetic how negative some Blades can be after moving up into 2nd place. Especially on a thread entitled 'Proud', which is obviously a feeling some struggle with.

Saying Chris Wilder and Alan Knill can't take any credit? WTF.

Why is it pathetic to be negative about Sheff Utd? Over the last 20+ years they’ve not given us much else. Yes under Wilder it might be different but it’s looking like it’s not at the moment.

We won league one. We where the biggest club in league one by some distance so let’s forget that, the championship is the pool we should be swimming in and Wilder has done an excellent job but now the pressure is on and we can see what we’re truely made of. On recent displays we don’t look good enough.

Didn't Wigan go down to 10 men after FOURTEEN minutes?
What are they playing for?
We scored 2 conceded 0 and won
Leeds scored 1 conceded 2 and lost.
Yet somehow Leeds did well but were really unlucky and we were crap but fluke it.
(In the past, when we've had loads of chances and missed a lot - out forwards don't have the quality, other teams face defenders playing out of their skins
We're where we are after 43 matches, some very good, some poor.
When we can afford players who cost kings ransoms we'll probably be even better week in week out - until then just trying to enjoy what we've got - even on the poorer days.
In nearly every season past as I remember - whenever we slump, we simply don't recover! :(

Forget that we won the league that we couldn’t get out of for 6 years? We were the biggest club in the league? We finished 11th the year before? Yeah let’s forget that because the heart and soul that was forged in that club doesn’t run through today’s team does it.

What a bunch of entitled little bitches some of our fans are Doesn't matter how the fuck we go up ,we won ,celebrate that. Do we really have to play like Brazil before some are satisfied ? Leeds Norwich and us all had easy home games on paper yesterday Only one of us won. I personally cant stop smiling and feeling happy ,why would you want to be negative ?? Up the fucking Blades

It goes with this stage of the season. I think Leeds have been generally shit recently, Norwich shit in their last two games. Performances tend to drop off when you get to the business end of the season, especially when the prize is the big one.
How many good quality cup finals or play-off games have you seen over the years? The nerves and tension make it scrappy, disjointed and reduced in quality and it will be like that for the rest of the season for all involved.

I’ve been put off coming on here lately due to all the moaning bastards who know fuck all and stumble through life finding solace in negativity.
Strangely enough they proclaim to be realists, whatever they are?,citing past failures as vindication for their miserable outlook and projecting
their pitiful reality’s onto Wilder and his team.

Wake up you muppets!
UTB.

We are currently watching two very good teams battle it out for automatic promotion, the prize for the winners is huge & the pressure of that is having a huge bearing on the outcome of the run in games.Ourselves & Leeds are not at our fluent best, yet they are in there fighting for every point despite a significant section of supporters thinking we/they are bottling it. Logic goes out of the window, let's face it Wigan had no chance yesterday, down to ten men & a goal down after a quarter of the game. Yet Wigan actually won the game. After Millwall last week a significant section of Blades fans thought we had blown it, were playing as if in treacle with three of our best players missing, but I am pretty sure we won the game 2-0 yesterday.
If anyone thinks the drama is now over then think again, there is plenty of time for fortunes to swing back & forth for both teams, but do we as fans have the bottle to keep faith with the lads that we accuse them of lacking at times?
Ipswich at home is likely to be at least as difficult as Hull on Monday, we have three cup finals to play still, win them & there is nothing Leeds can do. We need to be confident but not arrogant, & believe it can happen. COYRWW.

Feel sorry for folk wanting performances over results at this stage of the season. Reason being, you’re going to be eternally disappointed.

You might be right, you might be wrong, but if we keep doing what we’re doing in the last 30 mins of games, chances are we’ll get taken to the cleaners eventually. It might be on Monday, it might not; it might not happen this season & we get lucky, it might happen in the play offs against a team better than either Millwall or Forest. Who knows, certainly not a knownowt like me. :)

It’s not just me then. I despair at some of our fans.

Thankfully, this message board doesn’t represent the fans I meet in life. Presumably social media attracts attention seekers.

There’s some top people on here, but there’s some right pussies too.

I don't give a toss about performances, all that matters now is 3 points, a win is a win.

Oh and if the twitter feed was correct last night, the Wigan goal assists were Lee Evans and Leon Clarke!

A scruffy 1-0 win for all of the last three games please.

Oh and unless I am wrong, Lundstram put in a crucial block towards the end, straight into the oncoming player and ball, no neshing it. He might not be Duffy or Coutts when it comes to skill, but sometimes you need a player with the bollocks to put his body on the line and stop a player/ball, dead in its tracks.
