Leicester linked unfortunately and at £70k pw apparently 👀
I have no idea how Leicester are going to behave. Their owners are in trouble but it's hardly a fire sale. They could easily get in the play-offs if they brought a few choice players in. Maybe even worry the automatic places if they had a flyer. Offering those wages seems like a stretch though. I can see Brownhill going abroad for the most money. Last big payday and all that.

Just imagine our poor neighbours that can’t sign a player even if anyone wanted to go there plus a ground falling apart we are very lucky that we haven’t had owners that have gone down that business model

How are we 'massively short'?

That's a ridiculous statement

We need to make some permanent signings though. I agree on that front.
We will be short in one sense... With Keiffer off to Wrexham to play Parkinson hoof ball & Vini an aerial loss in defending set pieces - much as I like the idea of a ball playing CB (Bindon) we do need a Souttar style big 'un to combat "direct" teams. This isn't Anel's best side either. Not a big fan of going back to Oli McB but to be fair he was bloody good defending corners.

UTB

That’s my concern. Not that we’re not spending money, or going crazy. But, can’t build a foundation on loans, it’s a fucking stupid idea that we’ve done many times before.
Exactly this.. hence the thread I've started. Didnt think I was alone.
Its hardly football manager theory, its common sense that you build your squad with permanent signings and supplement it with quality loans!

I'm equally concerned, given how little we know of the new owners and the low profile they continue to keep.

Whether I'm right to be, time will tell. The above posters are correct, we rarely do much business pre-August.
There's been lots of media whispers that we're somehow skint, but let's see
The above posters may be correct about us rarely doing business pre August BUT this is an entirely new regime. It's therefore not unreasonable to expect that we might have been a bit more proactive this window. It's been clear for months where the weaknesses are and we look like going into the season with one right back and no cover at centre half. Even if we bring reinforcements in now they won't be playing against Bristol City.

The below article is one of a number of places where Selles has been quoted as saying:

"We are able to, if that's what we need,” said Selles, on paying transfer fees. “For the moment right now we are more focused on the market of loans and free agents, and we are monitoring ones where we'd need to pay transfer fees. We can do that but our target right now is loans and the free agent market."

It's pretty apparent that the owners don't want an approach of throwing a load of shit at a wall to see what sticks. They blew a load of money in January on the transfer fee for Cannon, plus wages for him and all the loans, and had nothing to show for it come the end of the season. So a more considered approach is seemingly being taken now where we work much more deliberately to identify players that would bolster the first team squad, and that we want to sign.

It's quite impressive that somehow, despite you being a new poster, you're already spouting the same nonsense as a bunch of pre-existing bedwetting, when it comes to our transfer plans for the summer.

Welcome to the forum, when you first join you have to endure the initiation ceremony of having your balls / female equivalent blackened - usually by Nick or Frank but once that’s over - you’ll be fine , I was .

We just have to hope we do do the business in August, we know the gaps that need to be plugged/ added too. Especially for this style of play we've seen over Pre-season, you'd have hoped maybe under new stewardship we might have been more forward thinking and proactive in the window, so its a reasonable thread...
There is no evidence at all that we have not been “forward thinking and proactive”. When will people realise that the club’s priority is not getting easy likes on this forum?

Perhaps you're right, but I think there's good reason that most business (certainly in the EFL) gets done later on. Its the trickle-down economics from the EPL. Once they've done their business, players become available / they become desperate to move people on to enable their business.

Doesn't bode very well if an opinion is founded on factually incorrect information though does it?

Feels like a daily basis at present, that someone is claiming Selles said he's got no money to spend, when the quote I've sourced proves that to be wrong.

I'm not saying people are wrong to be apprehensive - we're entering a season with a brand new manager, an ownership structure that has been in place less than 12 months, and the league we're in is going to be far more competitive at the top than what we saw last season. I get it. But at least deal in facts, rather than bullshit. It makes life so much less stressful.

Aren’t nearly the whole of the current squad permanent signings ? We are now doing the “supplement “ part.

But bullshit is fun 🤩

Hi All,

First time poster from North Wales here.

Excited for the new season, however slightly concerned at the lack of business up to now in the transfer window.
I dont want to sound like many other posters within the forum, yet we can all see the gaping holes currently within the squad.
It frustrates me hearing Ruben (who, Im excited to see what he brings to us) saying that we're only targeting loans and free agents, yet Hecky's able to bid almost 4 million for Richard Kone, Charlton, who've been in the financial doldrums for years have (when Knibbs signs) the biggest net spend currently in the transfer window.

Barry and Bindon will be excellent additions, yet last season we had 6 loans that needed replacing, id rather have replaced those with 6 permanent signings.

Please forgive my ignorance on financial matters however, I'd have thought we would've been in a position to spend. Im sure Ruben would have liked to bring more players in than this by now...
The approach is so poor, so shambolic I feel sorry for Selles.
He is the one who will carry the can of this shambles.
He insists on a (shite) fixed formation which is moronic
but they are removing key figures without replacement.
Is he okaying these departures?
eg Vini for peanuts
even Blacker on loan a potential centre mid with still no replacement for Vini still.
He should at least have suitable if inferior players to fill a planned formation in to be replaced later.
Weeks have gone past.
The entire seasons so called preparations.
The only positive I can take is surely to God even these shysters cannot asset strip more players
And the manager cannot sanction any leaving on the basis of more broken promises.

Parody is supposed to be funny.

There will be a lot of activity going on behind the scenes that none of us know about. I can't believe the only people who don't know what we need are the manager, owners and recruitment staff.
I have a car boot full of chill pills if anyone wants to purchase any, all proceeds will go the laundrettes that the bed wetters use 😉

This! Wait until the window closes before judging how good or bad it’s been.

Better players are always going to be harder to sign and take more time to complete.
So you're happy with a start of a 3-0 home defeat to Bristol City who totally dominate possession as the two league games last season
Have to swap the team a bit on the Wendy and lose 5 or 6 to a buoyant Birmingham in front of an expectant crowd despite TV.
Jam tomorrow?
FFS all three first choice centre backs were out at Nice

Captains that's true I also wonder how much of it is down to not wanting to pay -'unnecessary wages' during July? 4 new players at the start of the month averaging 25k a week is 400k+ saved if u can bring them in during August instead

Thing is, that was under the prince, I was hoping under the new ownership things may be different?

And yes Selles did say he was targeting loans and free agents after the York match
This is what worried me from day one.
The point is we have not signed any free players and never looked like it.
We have not even tried as far as we know for a fact.
That being said the only one I knew about and rated was Dunne - and he appears to have done well at QPR - appointed captain.
(Holding unfit?????)
The key being they would be proven at this level not totally unproven as all our permies.
TODAY is a key date as although contracts ended the month previous such as Brewster are paid to the end of July (or were last I heard and they will NOT lose benefits)
Plus obviously the best loans are generally obtained when clubs realize who they are going to keep not at the start but the end of the window.

ps they are INVESTORS not philanthropists,, a charity or die hard Blades fans spending all their hard earned multi million as death approaches.
They are here for ROI - RETURN ON INVESTMENT.
ie annual income (like interest dividends or 'channelling income' when in control as they are!) and/or massive profit on sale after quick upgrade like promotion and chance of stability there.

We hadn't signed anyone for four years when we signed Gil Reece! (thanks Silent for that one)
Ahh, those were the days. When I recognised every player in the squad, knew his number, his best position, where he came from, where he was born and even how tall he was. These days I’d be totally fecked without the Transfermarkt website and a pair of binoculars.

Is delusional behaviour catching like a disease because I'm beginning to fear to many of our fellow blades are spending to much time in Hillsborough and area !!
We are looking and laughing at our near neighbours because of what some on here are suggesting, our owners want us to live within our means whilst buying one or two players who will hopefully give us a good profit down the line .
I think we will add a few quality additions in the areas we need but there's 4 weeks yet for God's sake give them a chance!! Selles is trying to give all the squad chance to show him what they can give to the team ( clean slates all round) .
Yes we've probably still got funds available but do we really want clubs to know what we've got .
The EPL clubs will start to get desperate soon because of FFP and there'll be some cracking players available.
We can put a decent side out as we stand we have seen that with the friendlies.

The only forruners were Scottish and Welsh, or if the manager were feeling reyt exotic, Irish.

It got Burnley promoted last year?

As long as it’s a loan to permanent I can’t see the issue. It’s a good way of securing quality players otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.
