Cus iam a long way from home, how good is slew ? Ive not seen him play yet. Is he as good as am told ? Are we goin to keep him ? ? ? ? And maguire ? ?

Looks half decent, if a bit raw. I've been impressed with his strength on the ball and his positional play. I think he looks a liltle nervous on the ball, as you'd expect. I'm very hopeful, but he hasn't shown anything to suggest big bids will be on the way just yet.

What about this maguire lad ????? Anygood ???

Similar stage to Slew - a really big lad for his age, strong and not easily bullied. Looked comfortable at center half for a lad his age, but also looks a fair way from being the finished article. Relegation should actually be good for them. Another year older, a league lower - lots of promise but no cigar yet.

I'd be surprised if Morgan is with us next year, so doubtful. Possibly if so,

I'd be surprised if Morgs wasn't with us next season. He's getting on a bit; just come back from a bad injury so other teams won't be too keen to take him on.

I'm basing it on my belief that the players contracts (bar one) will be re negotiated. As per the Ched thread, I suspect Morgs is on a huge salary. As great a servant as he's been, he's not worth it. He may get offers above what we're prepared t stretch to, which shouldn't be much above £5K per week.

I would think it would suit morgs, a league lower showing a young pup how to survive, and leadng us to promotion as capt ??????????

As with ALL footballers, a bigger salary would suit him more.

Your probably right mate, very fickle these footballers with short memories............ Look at paddy, paid his wages while he was banned, then when it was up he upped and left?????? Turned out to be a good decision for him. "thanks sheffield for paying me while i was banned, you could have sacked me !!!! Am off to qpr now".........

Is Morgs not under contract for at least one more year? If so , and if there was no clause re relegation affecting his salary, how can we re-negotiate it?

Rumour (it has to be said) is that all players contracts are up for re negotiation, apart from one player who's a striker.

Elaborate on 'up for re-negotiation'.

For me, unless it is written in their contract that relegation will trigger a lower wage, we have no chance.
People are saying stuff like Cresswell etc don't deserve the amount that they are paid etc, and that we should be reducing their pay.
But I'm sorry, if these players take a pay cut, it would be very admirable of them. Is it their fault that they have been given ridiculous contracts? Why should they take a cut?

Anyway, on topic, my opinion of Slew... good bit of pace, decent positional play and wins a fair few headers.
However, doesn't anticipate well and is often second to the ball when it is played direct to him on the floor.

Morgs is out until October, just remember him for his galant efforts for or club

My understanding is that all but one have clauses in their contracts triggering re negotiation. If not, you're right, we're in trouble. And none of them are saleable on current salaries.

It isn't their fault that they were offered silly contracts. It is their fault that they performed like lower league buffoons and got their employer relegated. None of that will alter a jot.

IMHO Slew has much much further to go than Maguire. That is to say he is more raw.

But he does seem to have that one key ingredient that Alan Hanson reckons is the fear of all defenders, pace.

Hansen should know.

Personally the kid reminds me an awful lot of Jon Forte and I would expect his career to follow a similar path.

Slewdogg looks to be sharper, more athletic, harder working and better built fo a striker than JF ever did to me. Can see where you are coming from but I think Slew could progress to be much more prolific than our Forte has been. Still if Fortesers signs a permy then he will be a champ player at Soton next season - will still only be an impact player though.

I was always impressed with Forte when I saw him. I think he broke through at the wrong time for us, a time when we had some decent players and an awful lot of strikers. Slew on the other hand has been brought in at a time of desperation and as long as he showed effort was always going to be a favourite with the crowd towards the end of a bad season.

I would totally agree with DronnieBlade, He reminds me an awful lot like JF too. I have seen some glimpses from Slew that show he could make it and on his home debut his first touch was incredible. Didn't think he was as impressive against Barsnley but still made some good runs and caused defenders a few problems. Hope to see him here next season but IMO he won't be a starter for the first few games of next season.

i hope there both stay there done well.

Slew looks a better, more intelligent footballer than Forte.
He's actually similar to a lot of our young players, none of whom look outstanding but all of whom look well-schooled in how to play the game which is a credit to the coaching staff.
Slew also looks as if he might have a bit more physical development in him yet and United ought to be looking to see if he can be nurtured/coached/beefed up a bit to produce another half a yard of pace.

Yeah he needs a few kilos extra as he's quite lightweight.

Obviously he needs experience and games/ coaching will bring that. I'd be looking to coach him to stay in his position instead of allowing defenders too force him out to the wings when its not going his way, like he did on Saturday.

Riise should've been getting down the right, but Slew kept getting drawn out leaving us short in the middle. If he'd done this to take a centre half with him i'd have been impressed, but his centre half didn't follow. Plenty of time to work on it though
