Slater looked promising when he came on. Very tidy and composed on the ball. Much better than Carruthers.

As the poster above suggests, let’s not put too much pressure on him, but it is good to see another from the academy come into the side and hold their own.

Bash back to defence (our overlapping centre-half game is much better when he’s back there).
Lundstram and Slater in the middle.

Big ask for a young lad if Villa play Whelan and Hoaurhane but be interesting to see how he would cope

Slater had a nice little cameo but looked like one of the under 16 squad had just come on the pitch, he makes Brooks look like Charles Atlas.:D

I saw him captain the U18s in May when they won a trophy and was really impressed. He was Coutts-like on the ball and loved a tackle.
Apparently in the U23s derby last season, never gave McGugan a kick.

His dad?

One of the very obvious differences between Coutts and Lundstram is that Coutts knows the pass he's going to make as the ball comes to him; Lundstram's brain can't cope with forward thinking on that level. Slater looks like he may have a decent future but it's too much of a stretch to imagine he's going to solve any of our short-term problems. We need a very special signing in January to get this show back on the road.
As far as my optimism goes (further than most on this forum I think) - I still think Ched Evans will prove the doubters wrong!

the game just proved to me how important duffy is. yes coutts is a huge loss. so is fleck. but i think in my opinion duffy is our biggest loss when he doesn't play. it's the space he finds. bash and lundstram had no out ball at all going forward. backwards and sideways yes but not forward. hence they tapped it sideways or hoofed it long. with duffyin there. they could look up and know 90% of the time. 15 yards further forward would be a simple pass to duffy in space. while lundstram and bash were poor. i think a lot of this was down to not having that short simple pass available

I think you're right.
The midfield was completely separated from Leon & Billy on Saturday

I wonder if that total includes cats, dogs and any other animals it doesn't say 20000 people
Green alligators and black head geese, humpy backed camels and some chimpanzees, cats and rats and elephants but sure as you're born you're never gonna count no unicorn (and probably summat else I forgot)

Duffy has been brilliant this season but I think even he would’ve struggled to find space with how well Pearson and Johnson played.
