Carruthers has started his last game for us. SLater in next week and strengthen in January

Looks a player and seemed to have a bit of ‘speed of thought’ which our centre mid lacks without the Holy Trinity.

Carruthers isn’t the answer, Lunny I’m not sure either after today. Clearly Wilder agrees if we’re having another run at Leonard.

We need some pace up top as well. Hoping for that Prem loan signing.

One of two positives today. The other is the fact we had our best 4 midfielders out and only lost 1.0 (and were hardly battered).

Second time, like Bristol City we’ve come across a very organised and well drilled defence. We couldn’t break them down.

Clarke has been immense this season. Billy started well but a bit off the boil. The problem is, they're both reliant on chances being created for them. With the midfield out and our wingbacks suddenly losing the ability to cross, they're scrabbling around for chances.

I think Clarke has that additional physicality and ability to create out of nothing in his locker. Donaldson isn’t the answer for me, don’t rate him at all. Need to shift Hanson & Lavery out and bring in a loan. We’ll need to bring in a loan to get the necessary quality.

I think he does relatively compared to Sharp, but that's not really his natural game.Clarke will definitely force defenders into mistakes with his workrate though.

I'm perfectly content with Lunny as one of the midfield three. He's good defensively and plays neat passing football. He is not going to create much going forward, however, and a midfield of him Bash and Carruthers could play a hundred years without making as assist.

Still not convinced. Slows play down and passes behind the man even with a sideways ball. I’d drop him for Leonard when (!) he arrives.

Good defensively? He is very weak for a man his size and gives it away so often putting us in trouble. He is decent at times on the ball but tried ridiculous hollywood balls that now and again come off but him and Carruthers looked League One today.

I think we broke Bristol City down several times, but just couldn't get the ball in the net. We lost that match for other reasons than failing to break them down.

Our wing backs and CB's have not been getting the balls in the same positions. the crosses are rather deep these days. It's what happens when you lose your 3 best midfielders

Sadly I agree and thought he struggled. He seems to take a long time to get moving if the play changes direction quickly. Seems a bit laboured. I think that’s down to his initial positioning so it may improve with coaching.

They’ve got to push the boat out and bring in Leonard now. He allegedly seems to have more physicality and mobility which we are lacking in centre mid without Coutts!

Lost count of the number of times we passed behind play and not into the wingback's path - Bash did it a few times i noticed.

That may be the case. Haven't really analysed it enough to be able to agree or disagree.

But our failure to take anything from the Bristol City game had very little to do with any inability to break them down.

Maybe use Carruthers as a makeweight for Leonard? Seems Southend have played hardball because they cant replace him for the money theyd get. Maybe if we offered a few quid AND Carruthers they might bite (Just so long as they dont get Championship highlights in Southend).

We get Leonard and offload a surplus player and his wage at the same time. Two turds with one flush.

What I don’t understand is why Nathan Thomas didn’t make the bench. At least he offers something a bit different. Would have been a better option than playing Lafferty in midfield.

Pretty sure Thomas (no. 8) was warming up pre match, away from the rest of the squad. Couldnt work it out as had seen the line up already.
Wondered if there had been a change, or if someone was Ill and doubtful pending warm up

I thought Slater did well looked energetic and kept the ball....don’t get the Lafferty sub and Carruthers blew his big chance, Bash And Lundstrum don’t work as a midfield pairing I think that’s clear to see
