I don't want to go over old stuff again but jjblade is correct.Dundee United accept a decent offer from us,we have a greater chance of getting him.The stage we were at was DU not even accepting a bid from us so we'll never know as our board soon put paid to that.

But Wiz, Celtic would have been fully aware of this player and his availability, in all probability they would have contacted his agent or vice versa before now.

Had we offered half a million and they accept it, he still signs a pre contract with Celtic and not us. So it's immaterial but you never go straight in with a massive offer, that tactic is copyright Peter Risdale negotiations!

If the board was serious about success this season they'd have given him the money pre season .
They knew we needed quality but they gave Clough enough to get maybe,s and journeymen.

Warnock got us up in six (I know he was here for7) so Nige should get at least four.

I've always said roll on 2019, we'll be in a much better position.
4 years in our current status in the this division does not nearly equate to getting the club Heath left behind into the same division as Man Utd and Liverpool.

Only a fool would allow us to wallow at our lowest period in history for 7 years, under the management of someone with no evidence to suggest he can or will deliver the goods.

There'd be about 5,000 people turning up to support that notion.

I do accept this,i really do,but there's a difference between our offer and a massive offer, there's the inbetween offer, the valuation of the player himself. If we'd have bid that sum and he still went to Celtic then no one can question the club, that's fine, but as we know that didn't happen. We put a meesly offer in that showed we could not have possibly been interested in obtaining the players services.Anyway that's water under the bridge now, lets see what happens here on in.

We'll not be in division 3 in four years time. Next season we will be champions, not what I want, I want to get out this year but I'm not sure we are ready for division two just now.

The higher we go the better Nigel will be.

I agree, I think his style would suit a higher division, but he should be pragmatic in this.

If we were promoted this season, I'd happily give him 4 more years to get us to the premiership, unless some of the "endless bullshit" turned to fact and we actually spent any serious money, in which case that timeframe might reduce a little.

I think even if the miracle happened and we did give him money,if we were to get in the Championhip, then i'd still give him 3 years so long as we're not fighting relegation every year and we continually see signs of improvement. This admittedly, seems a long way of at this stage of the season.

Agree but in your opinion it was a measly offer. Cloughy might not have thought he was worth much more? Who knows. Lets hope we get some movement this week, not going to hold too much hope though, got used to not expecting too much with United as it only leads to disappointment.

True mate,it is just my opinion, but you don't see many players playing in the Champions league who cost only 80k.

Turned into a good thread this one. I bet Kevin McCabe would like it too as mostly it shifts the blame from him. Cloughie has his limitations but the biggest one is the same as his predecessors, Uncle Kevin please step forward.

All we can do is make a realistic offer and have it accepted is all I'm saying. If we'd done this but he chose to go to Celtic anyway it wouldn't have been the clubs fault.
What was the clubs fault was making an insulting offer in the first place. Dundee United preferred to keep the player for another four months rather than sell to a club who were quite clearly taking the piss.

As soon as Spurs have knocked us out go get him!

We need a the new manager bounce to ensure we don't miss the play offs, This division killing our club and Clough hasn't got a clue what it takes to get a side promoted.
lets dig up John Harris , rebuild him as a robot and go down the artficial intelligence route
its just as viable and realistic

We could get Derek Acorah to sit in the dugout communing with JB Wostinholm and John Nicholson and shouting their instructions to the players.
