T'was £75k, Celtic will be paying nothing.

If we'd insulted them, we'd have heard more of it from their end.
I'm quite glad we didn't get GMS. We don't need any more tiny weak players. Wrong position to recruit in as well. We need central players

Has the season ended today or something?

Nah. That's next Saturday. :(

Swiss, I always respect your opinions but think you're on a wrong 'un here. Regardless of what you've heard, I cannot imagine we've bid £1.7m for Brayford or anybody else. Even if true, I'd be beyond furious that we'd concentrated on a full back and not either a striker or a MacDonald-type influential midfielder.

So it was a waste of time me responding In the first place. You're unhappy we bid less than 80k for GMS and you don't believe we put a high bid in for another player.

Swiss, not a witchunt here from me, but theres no way we would pay that unless were in the championship...

After yesterday, if that bid had been made ( even out of bravado) then they'll be retracting it, because we are not certain of going up this season, if everything on here is true about our transfer dealings, then we appear to have become a club that mess other teams about these days..

It makes no difference whether we bid £150k or £1.5m for Brayford. There is no way he would move to Div 3 and take a wage cut given where we are in the league and our prospects of getting out of it from here. Autos blown and now not even in the PoF positions. There is no guarantee with the POFs either so who on earth would gamble on that?

Be prepared for a lot of disappointment as there is a steady stream of targets who decide not to join us this JTW - it's a function of how shit we have been in the first half of he season and where we stand now.

Yes - half the season to go and we HAVE already fucked it. There is no way on earth we can make up 18 or more points and getting into the play offs is not any sort of achievement (even IF we manage it) for the size of this club and where we were at the end of last season. However you want to tart it up and cling to a crumb of comfort - there is no getting away from the fact that this season is a complete cluster-fuck as far as the league goes

Told you raul, he has no eyebrows.

During warnocks first few seasons some of the football was truly awful, I don't mind warnock but I think these rose tinted glasses some folk are wearing are taking the piss
He took over after Heath when we struggled to break 10,000 gates, were potless and we were truly awful and devoid of quality on the field.

The early football was poor, but the overall job was exceptional.

This thread is brilliant. Sack Clough and replace him with Warnock.

For me the core of this is more to do with the way we do business. 80k these days wouldn't pay for a pig on a string so what the fuck were we doing? Ask the club how much they want, put it on the table and make them make a decision. I agree you aren't guaranteed to get him but you have a better chance than if you yank people's chains in the vain hope you will get a bargain.

When the fuck will we learn? If I believed this was cloughs doing I would want him sacked but this has other names all over it.

We don't know or have any idea of the blades business dealings . For all we know Mr Clough is trying to his job , with 2 hands tied behind his back in all things football . You cannot make a silk purse out of a pigs ear comes to mind.

Some managers become to look bad , due to the restraints by the board . Could this be the case with Mr Clough.

I'm not an ITK-er at all, but I've heard from someone close to the Cloughs that he is mightily pissed off and has told the board he will see out his contract and then leave. I think he has been completely mislead about things from the end of last season from what I can make out.

Maybe some truth in that . Pity he is not outspoken enough about the board , as he is about certain players. What has he to loose .

But I hear from other sources the Prince has not only saved SUFC but our souls as well. Who to believe? :)

Well then, why not give clough the same opportunity ?

Ah well, you've got a point there Bladesway! My info comes from my daughter who is at uni with his nephew. So I'm relying on that!

As the player is in the driving seat and makes the decision who's to say that 80K was going to DU but 170K was his signing on fee?

We just don't know.

I thought a signing on fee was 10% of the transfer fee,so in his case 8k,or so i was led to believe.I know there will be other things to agree on aswell,if anyone knows any different please correct me.

He did not choose Celtic over us because we only bid 75k. He chose them because they are his boyhood club, will win titles and play in Europe and will have him playing for Scotland.

If we had bid 1.5 million it would have made not one bit of difference.

Celtic are a bigger draw than most clubs in spite of the sh@t league they play in. But, a decent offer from us would have been accepted. If he had then decided to go to Celtic well at least United couldn't have been blamed.
They tried to do it on the cheap and lost, as usual.

Because we're nowhere near potless now, play in front of double the gates at half the standard of competitiveness. The demands on moving forward from here should be much greater.

He should be given more time. He should not be compared to Warnock, because under every relevant measure. Warnock trounces Clough as a manager (cue a number of irate posts about "ethos", "being liked", "respect", and "playing the right way")

Clough has no historical track record to rely on. He should be afforded a reasonable amount of time, but we cannot apply blind faith. Giving him more than a year from now would be doing just that.

Nope, I can't stand Warnock the man but your right. Just because you don't like the bloke doesn't mean you can't at least respect what he did. Only two men in 30+ years have taken us to the top level and if you can't respect the achievement your an idiot.

Warnock got us up in six (I know he was here for7) so Nige should get at least four.

I've always said roll on 2019, we'll be in a much better position.

So you agree he would have gone to Celtic whatever? So why look to blame the club for something that was beyond their control?

I don't want to go over old stuff again but jjblade is correct.Dundee United accept a decent offer from us,we have a greater chance of getting him.The stage we were at was DU not even accepting a bid from us so we'll never know as our board soon put paid to that.
