Can the singing be of any song / genre?, as it will cause loads of arguments as music can be so divisive and subjective.

There's a reason that away atmosphere is better - there's 3,000 with the majority wanting to sing.
Chucking them all in together at home may help the atmosphere.

It's randomly on the South Stand side of Kop though, not the John Street side, where the actual singing section is

But if we're honest, getting everyone at the back stood up should have already done enough for the Kop - but it's been very flat. The season has played a part, but it is the case

I'm just not sure the will and the energy is there anymore. Would be nice to be proven wrong

I don't have any interest in music or singing. I have never sung the "Greasy Chip Butty" as I have never bothered to learn it. My son sing it regularly at matches.

I fall into the category of I will sing if someone else has started it.

At away games its so easy to join in.

At home, I end up waiting for a song to start and by the time it does, you end up singing a couple of lines.

My suggestion is small speakers under each seat. we then have a kareoke stand with disco ball in the corner stand and people take turns to sing, the speakers aren't loud enough to project the sound but they let everyone feel like they can join in.

Bonus points for tribute acts, slutty dance routines and celebrity performers

Football as we knew it is done. Sanitized to the max and people scared to lose it in the moment due to over officious morons 50 miles away analysing whether toes are offside or not. Admittedly the Championship isn't as bad as the Premier league but the joy has been gradually sucked out of football for me. Maybe its an age thing.

People who sing are already pretty much in the same area as far as I can tell. It's just that nobody else joins in. Not gonna make any difference to that I don't think

There's a big difference it could make.
There's two areas at the back of the kop that sing most, one towards John Street side (behind me ) and the other further across back of the kop more SS side. Don't know where exactly.

Often these are singing different things, and both fizzle out pretty soon. All the singers together would help this.

And if course all the grumpy sods who complain there isn't enough, could join in.

I'm sure we used to have a designated singing section on one side of the kop once, I think it was maybe in the Clough era. It worked pretty well, although if memory serves they ended up stopping it because of that old favourite, existing ST holders in the area who got fucked off with everyone singing and complained to the club

Agreed, I think the rush to sneer at anything that aims to create an atmosphere is one of the reasons the atmosphere at English matches is so far behind a lot of other countries. It's not the only reason but it definitely plays a part. Hopefully this will make a difference.

We could do with some young 'ultras' with a couple of drums, a megaphone, banners and flags, with a bit of scaffolding at the front of the kop so some nipper could tell us what to sing, would do well.

Maybe scaff' it up in front of the South stand too, so some middle aged organiser can use his megaphone to arrange the HT toilet queues and some nicely orchestrated opening of Werthers originals and hip flasks.

Scottish football have some excellent 'ultra' groups across all the leagues, and there's an interesting programme available on it on BBC iPlayer if anyone is interested.

Europe are light years ahead of us in this respect.
