Singing section 26/27

There's a big difference it could make.
There's two areas at the back of the kop that sing most, one towards John Street side (behind me ) and the other further across back of the kop more SS side. Don't know where exactly.

Often these are singing different things, and both fizzle out pretty soon. All the singers together would help this.

And if course all the grumpy sods who complain there isn't enough, could join in.
I don't agree. I think having louder people spread out in several places encourages more people to sing. One group stuck in a corner means it's easier for the rest of the silents to stay silent I would have thought.

So people that are keen to sing/chant can choose to sit with like minded people. What's to complain about? Hopefully helps, as too many people are too cool or boring to cheer on the team these days.
Because surely it just means that actually less people in the ground will be encouraged to join in if they are all in one little sad area?

For me personally the potential prospect of going up to the premier league and finish bottom with less than 20 points as well as the joys of VAR has somewhat ruined football for clubs like ours. I'm all for a singing section tbf but until football is made fairer 😂 or we get billionaire owners then the potential of premier League football is somewhat reduced.

In the 70's clubs of our size could win the first division!

If they are all singing the same thing it does.
Either way it relies on the quieter ones joining in. Which is maybe the bigger issue.

Great, they're introducing a singing section at the back of the Kop, at the end towards Tony Currie's stand.
I think that is a wrong choice, it should be the middle back of the Kop at C, D, E behind the goal, like the old standing Kop.
The fans at the John Street side and the Tony Currie side can join in the singing if they want; that's my opinion. anyway.

SING UP SINGERS! SING UP SINGERS!

SINGERS GIVE US A SONG! SINGERS SINGERS GIVE US A SONG!

Are two chant's you'll be hearing plenty from me next season.

Anyway where is the singing section going to be? Will the aim be to create a 3rd pocket of singers on the kop away from the 2 existing pockets at the back so that we have singing midway down the kop too (front of the safe standing)? or will they just put the singing section where the singers currently are anyway, which would seem a bit pointless...

There's a reason that away atmosphere is better - there's 3,000 with the majority wanting to sing.
Chucking them all in together at home may help the atmosphere.
I prefer the atmosphere at away games because more people join in with chants. Hope the idea works and all the fans wanting to sing can be together - will there not be fans who don't want to move out of the proposed singing area though?

If something could be done to generate some support when we go a goal down that would be a bonus - that's when the team really need support

By and large home atmospheres are pretty poor at most grounds in my experience.

I've been pleasantly surprised by how good our away support has been this season at many games under the circumstances.

Not quite sure why the club should be criticised for this at all. For years they got blamed for not caring or wanting an atmosphere.

No-one is forcing anyone to get involved who doesn't want to.

Generations move on. I'm sure some of the older fans pouring scorn didn't sit on their hands with a blanket and flask in the 70s and 80s.

Lets hope the millionaires on the pitch, give the people paying money something to sing about.

Yes im a grumpy git. 🤷

The rest of the world don't seem to have a problem with requiring something interesting on the pitch to happen in order to create atmosphere, it's just the English.

Well good luck to them, hopefully it works

Ideally that end of the Kop and the G block end will bounce off each other, and the middle joins in with either

But if we're honest, getting everyone at the back stood up should have already done enough for the Kop - but it's been very flat. The season has played a part, but it is the case

I'm just not sure the will and the energy is there anymore. Would be nice to be proven wrong
You can retire a happy man now! It wasn’t all for nowt!

It is odd that they want it at the opposite end of the kop to where the singing usually is.

Not really? There's a bunch of availability in that area that isn't there at the opposite side of the Kop. It makes it a lot easier for people to relocate should they want to and/or for walk up fans to find availability. That you imply that the singing is usually created by maybe 5-10% of the Kop is exactly why people want this sort of thing in the first place

People will mock it, but at least it's an acknowledgement and an effort to resolve something many of us would like to see an improvement in...

I don't see this as a plastic, Americanism.. if you don't like the idea, don't engage. But there's plenty that will like it and hopefully it encourages the next generation of enthusiastic fans to mix together and get an atmosphere going... Failing that, they make mates for life to go to away games with.
It's what used to happen organically in the terracing days.

im all for it. as we've got nothing to lose from it. the problem for me & maybe others is alot of us like football & want to watch football. but if your singing, chanting, jumping. your probably not paying much attention to the football. its a tough thing to juggle

it works at palace. i remember a swedish woman at womens euros she spent the entire 1st half chanting sverige & orchestrating a brilliant atmosphere. i would take a huge guess she saw none of football

Fair play to anyone trying to take positive action to improve the atmosphere and for the club for trying to accommodate.

The last time I shared my wider opinion publicly on the idea I just got shed loads of personal abuse, so I’ll stop short of that, it’s another thing off the list of things that apparently stop people from making noise, so fingers crossed it contributes to working.

The answer is to stick them next to the away fans. That works in other grounds, like the plastic bowls of Derby, Coventry, Boro etc.

I fall into the category of I will sing if someone else has started it.

At away games its so easy to join in.

At home, I end up waiting for a song to start and by the time it does, you end up singing a couple of lines.

My suggestion is small speakers under each seat. we then have a kareoke stand with disco ball in the corner stand and people take turns to sing, the speakers aren't loud enough to project the sound but they let everyone feel like they can join in.

Bonus points for tribute acts, slutty dance routines and celebrity performers
I was right with till you mentioned celebrity performers😳

Excellent. Pleased to hear that this initiative means that we will be hearing plenty of chanting from you next season. Seems that it will be serving its purpose.

I'm a bit doubtful that many will move over to that area

I don't think many will move stands for it

I think most who might be interested from the kop will already be in an area that makes noise - and with a better view

Best scenario is that it attracts a few of the younger fans, and steadily grows - and is left alone to do so
