Simonsen Released

Saturday was his best game for us, that I have seen. Much more commanding and decisive.
Overall, though, he is a weak link and will have been one of the big earners.

Has nothing to do with the play-off final.

Glad he at least found some form second half of the season and seemed a much more confident player and the fans generally responded to that.

But being honest he's average at best at this level and it's time to move on, would be crazy to renew players like him when we have pressure on wages.

I feel for him because it follows what was probably his best performance in a Blades shirt, he did make some good saves, forget the penalty miss, it should never have got to his turn.

However, how many points has he cost us over the past couple of seasons, shocking at corners and crosses, teams even at this level knew our weakness and exploited it, time for a clean slate and hopefully some clean sheets.

This is a purely financial decision from United, and with Howard signed mid-season on much lower wages I think Simonsen himself would have expected it.

I'm looking forward to seeing Howard, hopefully he can really cement a place as number 1 for a few years.

Best part of 15k a week and absolutely useless. Thank god he's gone, a one man catastrophe!

He's been signed by Dallas Cowboys to take field goals! o_O

An honest player but ultimately not the best we have ever seen..
He has cost us a few points over the last couple of seasons. (still better than Bunn tho)

We should of used Benno when Judas was banned and we would of never needed him.

A confidence keeper who's confidence is now shot by what happened.
Its the best for Utd at this stage.

As I said on another thread...
Goalkeepers:
Release:
Simonsen: Out of contract and reputedly a high earner, it's time for Simonsen to find the fifth club of his career. It's a shame that his time with the Blades ended with him blasting the 22nd spot kick over the Wembley crossbar but that shouldn't cloud the decision, which has to be to release him.

I feel for Simonsen but in the cold light of day, it was the only option. Now it's up to Mark Howard to prove that we've made the right decision.

I feel for him but no other option. If we want to be realistic and keep hold of some of the others then he had to go. I think Howard can make the step up but not convinced by long. I think the best thing we could do is to see if we can get a keeper in on something like non-contract terms and send Long out on loan.

Thank god for that. A truly pathetic joke of a keeper. Time to join the circus Simo.

Never recaptured the form he showed during his impressive loan spell and cost us more points than he saved us. Correct decision to get rid.

Spot on that

They never usually do recapture their form when they go from a loan to a permanent signing.

A massive amount of money saved letting him go.

Just been talking about this at work and while I know that it is a financial decision........

If Howard is better than Simmo then why hasn't he played?
And if he is worse then AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!

He doesn't command his box from corners well enough and puts 2 defenders under more pressure. He also doesn't communicate enough with the back 4 hence some of the major blunders that have happened during our poor run.

A good shot stopper but that is about it and he lets the pressure get to him after a mistake.

Good luck Simmo, unfortunately your wages need to be spent elsewhere and we are confident in Brown and Long by the sounds of it. We need that money elsewhere so it's a good business decision.

If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have gone to pens on Saturday

aparently we,l hear more on which players have signed a new contract and who hasnt some time tomorow

Keeping it classy I see Mica.

Good decision by the club, I think he was on possibly even more than widely speculated, plus wasn't a keeper who stood out at our level. However he was a really good pro, always had a lot of time for fans which I can confirm personally. Intelligent and always happy to chat, hope he finds a new club shortly.

Harsh.

Fact is if Lowton or Taylor score their pens on Saturday, we would be hailing him as having kept us in the game...and being a hero for saving 2 pens...

I think the Playoff Final summed Simmo up to a tee.

A Man of the Match performance, followed by an abysmal effort, even for a Keeper.

and Yes, I know it should have been all over ......

Think we were all expecting this really. Hopefully the freed-up wages can help keep the more vital players in the squad such as McDonald and Lowton, good decision from the club really.

Financial decision and his lack of command of his area was stuff of nightmares, but did he really cost more points than he saved. Easier to remember blunders than saves at 2-1 and 1-0?

To be fair he did make some decent saves but I can't honestly remember a long term keeper that gave me less confidence than Simmo. Every time an opposition had the ball 35 yards out I'd take a long slurp of my Bovril (2 sugars).
