Simon Jordan - "Wendies Bigger club than Sheffield Utd"

As a Derby supporter, I like to think I can be objective
I quite like Simon , I feel he talks a lot of sense on many subjects
But I'm scratching my head at his apparent love of Wednesday..he bangs on about them regularly
As someone who enjoys the stats of games , I know full well Sheff Utd have consistently averaged bigger crowds over many years now , and have been present in the Premier league several times these last 20 years..

Quite how he comes to the conclusion Wednesday are a " much bigger club "is a mystery, I can only assume he has an ulterior motive for promoting them at every opportunity
It’s called ‘click bait’. Hopefully Blades fans are sensible enough just to leave him to his opinions and not engage with the clown.

What rubbish Simon Jordan talks!

This was a pointless thread when it was posted.
He does not work Friday so before Friday I had heard him say.
He lead a consortium for a Wendy and bid to have a look at everything
And withdrew as many have said
1. Ground falling to bits
2. No training facilities
3. No players
4. Will be in third division
5. Bid money will go to Chansiri re 25% return so would bid low anyway and gamble on losing 15 points (more) this season not next.
It would take more money to Wendy put on stable footing than United imbeciles paid for us - with parashute payment to come to them!
c 150 million more after bid.
And several years.

the attendance from the sheffield derby and yesterday shows the difference between the 2 clubs they lost 10k from last week the fact is wednesday have just got more part time fans than us as shows with derbies and wembley finals where 20k pigs come out of the woodwork they turn up for the glory games but dont support their team in bread and butter games

Draw your own conclusions, and in my lifetime since I started supporting United in 1987, I'd say we have been the bigger club since then. All about opinions though. UTB.
i don’t get the head to head. We were ahead when Warnock was manager by 2 to 4. Wilder has done nothing but add to that.

I think the margin must be greater. It seems we beat them in 4 of the last 6 yet still only seem 4 ahead!

Its usually a superfluous unnecessary swipe at the end of him talking them up like a bit of a nasty dig at us even though we aren't part of the conversation,I don't think he really believes it
Not sure why he feels the need I can imagine he got a lot of kick back from idiots when slagging wilder off ( which I thought was a fair point ) and almost feels a bit embarrassed that he seems to hold this point of view even though it's not the 90's anymore and it maybe makes him feel a bit sad like I do when I see clips online of grand theft auto and pro Evo soccer
I always remember when Billy Sharp got headbutted and listened to Talksport the next morning to only hear Simon Jordan saying it was our fault.

That just topped it for me. The only club in the country that could be blamed for our players getting physically attacked by opposition fans who shouldn’t even be on the pitch and our club getting blamed for being on the receiving end of cheating, lying and skulduggery by another club (West Ham)

Yeah Jordan was heavily Influenced by his journo mate who funnily enough supports forest

He kept repeating this unfounded and unverified version of events and I was amazed he was never challenged on it

Agree…I heard it too and couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

However he’s admitted a few times over the years he has loads of affection for Forest and still remembers Clough and their European exploits.
He’s also admitted a few times one of his good friends is a director or could be a journalist at Nottingham Forest, so he often says he has a contact at that club.

Remember him at the time on Talksport radio warning the public not to make an instant judgement because in his words “there was all sorts of shenanigans going on from the Sheff Utd bench”. Then he said “no doubt they’ll be an investigation…so let’s see what they come up with”.

Then it went totally quiet for many months…think it was silence for over a year….like it never happened.
Thought it quite bizarre, don’t think they even got punished….however it McBurnie who was on crutches at the time….accused of attacking a Forest fan.

Another time when we were promoted under Hecky…..they were talking about Sheffield United and our chances in the Premier league.
Jim White called us a massive club with huge support (altho he says that about quite alot of clubs)
….Jordan replied “wouldn’t say that but admit they aren’t an insignificant club”
Admitting we aren’t insignificant is probably the best compliment about us that’s come out of his mouth.

Another weird issue relates to Neil Warnock….who is very similiar to Jordan regards his opinion on Sheff Utd and Sheff Wed.

When ever I hear him on the radio talk about Sheff Utd….he always shows us in a bad light….saying how we’re always an under dog with no money.
Yet when he talks about Sheff Wed, he says it’s a fabulous club that he’d loved to have managed and I’ve heard him say several times “they always pack out their stadium” and “could easily get regular 40K plus crowds with the right owners”. Even heard him say that when he was growing up in Sheffield, Wedneday were always known as the “glamour club” but as he’s contrary he deliberately chose to support the underdog in Sheff Utd.

It seems certain he must have left Sheff Utd on bad terms because even Warnock seems to dislike us. Heard him a few times talk about his past memories as a manager and he always goes about Crystal Palace being the best fans he’s worked under and how he really enjoyed his time at QPR.

Yeah I laughed out loud the other day when he was on Alan brazils show
First question was about us doing well again and he mumbled summat about how much we've spent ,doesn't fancy our back four and changed the subject to what a great club wednesday are

Made me chuckle

I heard that too….Brazil was trying to get him to talk about our recent good form and how we won Sundays derby
But he wasn’t interested in talking about us and quickly changed the subject preferring to big up Wednesday…..for years he’s seemed so bitter about us.

Plus wilder nicked his job at Boro so he won’t like us one bit!

I think when we got promotion 2005/06 our last home game was against Palace (tracksuit from Matalan).

After the game Jordan delivered a case of champagne into our dressing room - I think at that time he was already tapping up Warnock as a future Palace manager.

Jordan doesn't like Wilder although I think he's a good mate with the Prince.

All down to interpretation.

People who can remember Wednesday being a decent side in the 90s while we were slumming it would be justified in thinking that Wednesday are "bigger" than us, what with the bleeding Rumbelows Cup and having a few decent internationals in their side for a while.

I'm nearly 36 and all I can really remember of them in the top flight is them being in my sticker album, Di Canio shoving the ref over and Alan Shearer scoring 5 in a game and singlehandedly consigning them to the footballing dustbin. Nowadays, they're an irrelevance to most under the age of 40.

Its no different to now when my nearly 6 year old talks about Brentford or Bournemouth yet in my mind they're the clubs that if they're lucky would bring two coachloads of poor sods who'd stand in the rain at Saltergate wondering what the hell life had come to. Kids now would look at you in disbelief that Portsmouth played AC Milan in the UEFA cup and that Middlesbrough and Fulham both reached the final.

Pig fans seem to have this misguidedness baked into them that they're somehow going to storm their way to the top of the footballing pyramid, forgetting about the fact that they have about a dozen senior players, are all but certain to be relegated, have a ground that's falling to pieces, that's if its not underwater first and will have a massive rebuild on their hands next season with barely two pennies to scrape together.

But they flogged a record number of bobble hats and scarves so automatically should be handed their place in the elite.
TBF, this is a Sheffield matter. No-one, outside of Yorkshire, has any mental associations with them other than the horrific tragedy in 1989. Just slightly more well known than Bradford City, as their disaster was more recent. In both cases, the disasters had an impact, but clearly Bradford's was so much more personal as the victims were their own fans.

Yes, they beat Man Utd in 1990, but Swansea have won that cup since, as has Birmingham, and the only team of the three the public know, is the latter, because they have a famous owner.

So I guess that is our only concern, who take the bastards over.

A few yeas ago. I was working at Norwich Union in Sheffield and I said to a Man U fan (proper fan BTW, watched them everywhere) go ask that Wendy if The Pigs are as big as Man U? He came back with the answer the guy had said 'well it depends what you mean' after that I knew the pig fans were completely deluded. Man U, 12 year waiting list for a season ticket the pigs..........well?

He also repeated the lie that PA put Turki Alalshikh off buying or investing in Sheffield Wednesday. Which PA called him out on and even offered to be interviewed about it.
