All down to interpretation.
People who can remember Wednesday being a decent side in the 90s while we were slumming it would be justified in thinking that Wednesday are "bigger" than us, what with the bleeding Rumbelows Cup and having a few decent internationals in their side for a while.
I'm nearly 36 and all I can really remember of them in the top flight is them being in my sticker album, Di Canio shoving the ref over and Alan Shearer scoring 5 in a game and singlehandedly consigning them to the footballing dustbin. Nowadays, they're an irrelevance to most under the age of 40.
Its no different to now when my nearly 6 year old talks about Brentford or Bournemouth yet in my mind they're the clubs that if they're lucky would bring two coachloads of poor sods who'd stand in the rain at Saltergate wondering what the hell life had come to. Kids now would look at you in disbelief that Portsmouth played AC Milan in the UEFA cup and that Middlesbrough and Fulham both reached the final.
Pig fans seem to have this misguidedness baked into them that they're somehow going to storm their way to the top of the footballing pyramid, forgetting about the fact that they have about a dozen senior players, are all but certain to be relegated, have a ground that's falling to pieces, that's if its not underwater first and will have a massive rebuild on their hands next season with barely two pennies to scrape together.
But they flogged a record number of bobble hats and scarves so automatically should be handed their place in the elite.
