To be fair. They are a club with a big potential.
Interesting. Genuine question in what way do they have a big potential than many other Championship clubs including us?

Please don’t say if some billionaire came in and pumped millions into them, built them a bigger ground and bought them top players. A billionaire can do that with us and many other clubs.

I’m genuinely curious what this bigger potential is.

All down to interpretation.

People who can remember Wednesday being a decent side in the 90s while we were slumming it would be justified in thinking that Wednesday are "bigger" than us, what with the bleeding Rumbelows Cup and having a few decent internationals in their side for a while.

I'm nearly 36 and all I can really remember of them in the top flight is them being in my sticker album, Di Canio shoving the ref over and Alan Shearer scoring 5 in a game and singlehandedly consigning them to the footballing dustbin. Nowadays, they're an irrelevance to most under the age of 40.

Its no different to now when my nearly 6 year old talks about Brentford or Bournemouth yet in my mind they're the clubs that if they're lucky would bring two coachloads of poor sods who'd stand in the rain at Saltergate wondering what the hell life had come to. Kids now would look at you in disbelief that Portsmouth played AC Milan in the UEFA cup and that Middlesbrough and Fulham both reached the final.

Pig fans seem to have this misguidedness baked into them that they're somehow going to storm their way to the top of the footballing pyramid, forgetting about the fact that they have about a dozen senior players, are all but certain to be relegated, have a ground that's falling to pieces, that's if its not underwater first and will have a massive rebuild on their hands next season with barely two pennies to scrape together.

But they flogged a record number of bobble hats and scarves so automatically should be handed their place in the elite.

Incidentally that’s one of the first memories I’ve got as a United fan of being really upset.

I was 9 when that ugly bastard scored that screamer.

I’ve got a fair few of those moments in the memory trauma bank now
Yea ...it was a horrible day .....on underground after game full of palace .
Small margins ......
Then Howard Kendall fucked off

The bigger club argument is the biggest load of bollocks in football.

There’s no measure of what it means other than someone’s opinion. Everyone compares argues and twists it to their own agenda.

At times in their history Wednesday have been bigger than united. Those times are fading into the history book with a big percentage of their current fan base too young to remember.

We are ‘bigger’ than them in pretty much every relevant modern metric but who actually cares (apart from Wednesday fans and Simon Jordan)

We are more valuable than them

Our squad is better and more valuable than theirs

Our revenue is higher than theirs

We have more followers on every social media platform than them so are currently more viewed and well known than them

Our facilities are better than theirs

Our academy is better than theirs

We have a higher average attendance than they do

We are above them in the league and have played in the top flight a lot more recently than them

I can make an argument as long as my arm for us being bigger than them if I really want to, then one of them can come along and remind us they won a trophy a lifetime ago and they had a few years of being famous when I was in primary school.

Football is unrecognisable compared to what it was 25 years ago. It’s changed so much. It’s far more drilled and scientific now than it ever was… which is another reason for not sucking off players from previous generations as there’s not even any guarantee players from that era would make it in football these days when the standard is just far higher these days than it ever was before.
But they have the intangibles

They are that big with that much potential, that he has got a consortium together, with the funds to buy them. But then bottled spending someone else's money on them? Yeah, massive!

In every other two team city (Glasgow excepted) the bigger club question doesn’t really need to be asked…Whereas in Sheffield it’s not quite so obvious.

He’s the idiot’s idea of an intelligent bloke.

I’ve always felt this to be the case.

He is a South London spiv. He often speaks quickly, liberally sprinkling unusual vocabulary - albeit, not always using the words correctly - through his monologues which seems to have created for some, a false impression that he is in some way intelligent or is some sort of sage in matters of football governance.

Whenever I hear him on one of his spiels, I can’t help but recall how another South Londoner - Dave Bassett - also used to speak with that 100mph delivery which was often laced with misplaced or simply wrong words. It is as if their brains can’t keep up with their mouths.

The difference between the two men, of course, is that Harry was a genius and excelled in his chosen vocation where as Jordan had a huge and costly failure.

Exactly this. If you watch his show with jim white enough times you realise he just regurgitates the same shtick every time. I’ve never really listened to talkSPORT and come away thinking he’s said something really profound.

I did some analysis on this.

Pretty sure going back to 1970 our average times finishing place across the 4 divisions is 29th, to their 30th.

Their average crowds are about 23k to our 21.5k and they have won one major trophy to our 0.

On the other hand, we've had bigger crowds this century, finished a lot higher, have a much greater social media following, premier league visits, academy players that have gone on to play for England etc. etc.

There's not much between us...

But if I'm totally honest, I think they do have a larger fan base. They seem to be able to pull a bigger crowd for the big occasion.
Were they to go up, they do have more folk ready to jump on the merry bandwagon.

Ignore the bigger comment.

Listen to everything else he says and he's right.

No squad
Stadium falling to bits
Not a lick of paint in years
No training ground
Relegated
Chancelot needs paying off

He basically says he pulled out as its not worth the hassle or money it needs.

It's very telling. And what majority of us have been saying

BBC Radio 5 is bigger and better than Talksport with more listeners ( just saying)
