One of the few "journalists/pundits" who has actually picked up on the finer details rather than just stating it's a total disaster for us and how stupid we have been (despite zero actual details of what happened being made public). I dont think Chris should have gone now, but this season has been a massive step back for the football club overseen by Chris and the interviews and arrogance shown has been jarring after watching each pathetic performance. I was watching him praying he would change something but he just didn't do that, something had to change and if the man wont change, maybe you have to change the man

I pressed play on that clip preparing to watch and confirm my thoughts that Jordan is tw@t and attention seeker just trying to be controversial for the sake of it (as well as ratings). However, like others could not disagree with much he had to say there. He made many valid points and this season has been terrible indeed and Wilder despite the sentiment has made many mistakes over the last 12 months. Still a legend though.

Simon Jordan is right and perhaps Wilder should’ve wound his neck in, kept his mouth shut in public and taken his medicine like a good little manager.

I read the comments the other day that Jim Phipps put out, I’ve since read and seen the comments put out by experts, ITK sources close to wilder and local journos.

Everyone speaks as though their version is the truth so it’s also wise to take with a pinch of salt.

However, it’s becoming very clear, when you tie all these reports in with what’s come from the Prince in the last few months, statements from the club etc, that Wilder was sold down the river by a delusional owner that thinks our spending and facilities are competitive, long term.

It’s true that we’ve spent what appears to be big money, but we haven’t kept up with wages. It’s clear we’re not competitive

So with this all in mind, was Wilder wrong to speak out against the Prince? Given everything we know about Wilder he wasn’t going to keep quiet. He’s been lied to and has seemingly given ultimatum to the Prince...

Sadly the Prince seems to have not heeded his warnings but instead cut his losses.

Absolutely. Seems the Prince wanted to blame the dog for getting fleas! Wilder is Wilder!

The club has gone from being a league one, 'traditional' club with the associated infrastructure that comes with that - to being a £300m.+ turnover corporate conglomerate. The rate of which this happened has taken everyone by surprise.

I'd offer people's egos have also increased at the same rate and we're left in a reyt mess of poor infrastructure, poor structure and small minded people suddenly thrust into the bright lights of the PL!

I've seen it numerous times at work when we takeover small/owner managed businesses. The people that run these have very different attitudes and it comes as a shock to them that life in a large corporate is very different. Most don't last as they can't adjust to the large corporate way of life.

For me, it's going to be interesting where Chris goes next. Based on this season I don't see any PL team touching him - they'd be shit scared of him repeating this season! The team's in the bottom half of the PL do not take gambles. I've said all along our Bladey Glasses sometimes distort how the outside world really sees him. Maybe Celtic but if he thought the scrutiny here was bad!!

Is he going to be a modern day Ian Holloway - great media personality, top bloke, half decent manager at the championship level or is he going to learn from this, improve his self awareness, come up with a Plan B and C and be a great top level manager?

I thought he spoke a lot of sense. He's one of the few on TS who does. He's made a judgment based on what he's observed. I don't think he's too far off either.
Let me guess ones a pig radio station the other gives an objective view to stimulate debate

It would need a complete change in personality to go anywhere but Burnley in the PL. Like it or not, very rich people need to be managed with care. And if they aren't you'd better be successful straight away or you'll be gone sharpish.

If he doesn't develop game specific tactical flexibility and variety then a Paul Lambert/Ian Holloway career is pretty likely.

I don't think Burnley would take that gamble. With £200m+ riding on it, would you take a punt on a manager who presided over being one of the 3 worst teams in PL history and was run out of town for being a thorn in the side of ownership?

I've said it all along. Chris needed us as much as we needed him. There's a very good chance we'll tank next season but there's just as good a chance he'll tank wherever he goes. Especially if he can't get the players in to play his system and the players don't buy in to his mgt style.

It was my Liverpool supporting mate who made the Holloway comparison. He said it was similar to the Holloway at Blackpool situation and he couldn't see any PL team touching him. However, Championship teams will be lining up for him...

Not that many attractive Championship jobs either

I'm not sure what your point is. I wanted Wilder to stay. No better person for next season.

I'm just looking at possible causes and reasons for what has happened. Of which there are many. I doubt we'll know both sides for a long, long time.

We won’t tank next season - I think we will do well

£300m now becomes written in stone somewhere along the line and the “weers munni gone” institute of internet accountants Are up in arms. Or are we adding annual turnovers together now? We haven’t had £300m in two seasons combined.

The Piers Morgan of the football world.

Loves the sound of his own voice and is quite obviously deliberately controversial for the controversy and headlines it generates.

In view of this, any relevant or accurate points he does ever make are lost in the hiss of the white noise !!

I agree with what Jordan said, regardless of who has said what to who, we have been crap and its the 11 blokes on the field and the guy that coaches them who are accountable for the performances on the day which by and large have been somewhere between average and abysmal.

If we're honest, there's nobody in the club who has any sort of extensive experience at the top level so Wilder, the Prince, Bettis and all the rest are trying to pin the tail on the donkey in the hope that we stumbled on some kind of long term winning formula when really, none of them know what that is. What might be right for Burnley, Leicester or whoever might not be right for us.

Not normally a Jordan fan but I agree with him here. Plenty don’t I understand, however he was a chairman and he understands the football boardroom probably better than most of us on here. The facts are there ..... Chris and the team did amazing and we all loved it. This year has been nothing short of a disgrace and yet I cannot remember one interview where Chris said it was his fault. Is it possible that “Ego” has entered the building and the simple fact is our last manager cannot accept sometimes you have to take it on the chin, change a few things and come back stronger. The definition of madness is as we al know to keep doing the same thing.... we have done it for 20+ games this season and yet the Prince is to blame. Accepting poor standards is always a downward spiral and Chris I feel has allowed that in. Fantastic few years and ones we will remember. Amazing how some people think the last 12 months can just be wiped away. Yep blame all round possibly but let’s just accept time to move on. Chris has!

To be fair Wilder has taken responsibility in some pressers for the way this season has gone. The interviews clipped for Radio Sheffield don't give the full press conferences. That said when he has admitted fault its usually on the back of finger pointing at the board or saying how great the opposition are and how we can't compete money wise.

I grew up at time always seeing controversial comments about Jordan in the papers. He was portrayed as a narcissist twat.

However to be honest he’s been a fantastic pundit on Talksport.
He’s not politically correct, doesn’t care what others think BUT always gives his opinion and explains it in a logical forthright way.
He was one of the few pundits that dared to criticise Black Lives Matter and the “Kick it Out” anti-racism campaign.
He did this in a very clever carefully worded way....ensuring he wasn’t seen as racist but giving examples where these groups should and could do better.

The thing with Jordan is that he’s always made it clear that he’s a big fan of Chris Wilder and he loves his honest straight talking.
Jordan always “bigs up” Neil Warnock too....saying behind closed doors he’s had terrible arguements with him but at least they both know where they stand.

My view is that the owner felt 2 years ago...the club will progress better with a Director of Football.
Wilder kicked off....seeing this as a threat to his power.....as we were challenging for Europe...the owner correctly backed down....Wilder stayed.

This season has been a disaster...no doubt the Prince will review the season and look to make changes.
He’s made it clear he doesn’t wish to sack CW but believes now is the time to appoint a Director of Football to help Chris.

CW has taken this as a lack of backing/ trust and again threatened to leave.
This time the owner has called his bluff and thought “the club is bigger than any player or manager”....and to be honest....I agree.

However to be honest it‘s all speculation. We don’t know what really went off.
Even Wilders best mates won’t know the truth as they will only know Wilders version of events.

This season proved why Wilder needed a DOF.

This season proved why Wilder needed a DOF.

Also when you consider that virtually every major club with ambition in the top 2 divisions have a Director of Football.

Wilder is old school from the lower leagues and non league....so he’s no experience of DOF’s. The owner wants to protect and grow his investment. It’s common sense that he’ll believe if every PL has a DOF...then it’s for a reason.... to help the manager perform better.

It does seem weird, The owner has offered Wilder a support structure to help him perform better
but Wilder has interpreted this as a criticism and distrust of his power....when it’s actually how major football operates these days.

I haven't read through the whole thread but the obvious problem with what Jordan is saying is that there's an implicit assumption that the Prince was honest. Even ignoring that, there's an obvious bias in saying that when Wilder makes negative comments he's "using the media" in a way he shouldn't, but when the Prince comes on the radio and says everything behind the scenes is just rosy, well, that's not "using the media".

Let's suppose, and it's not a stretch with what's being said about the training ground and DoF position and such, that the Prince was using the media to make everything sound like the board had given full backing to Wilder in order to lessen the impact of his inevitable departure? Essentially, saying the things he did just so that the likes of Simon Jordan would come out and put the focus all on the manager.

He has a reasonable point that Wilder wouldn't tolerate those kinds of comments from a player but then I'd say there's simply different expectations for different positions.

It's hard to take a side without knowing all of what's gone on behind the scenes but that also means that Simon Jordan doesn't just get to assume that the Prince's radio interviews were ones of honesty and Wilder's are ones of unfair media manipulation.

I think it's all well and good being the manager of the club you love and support, when things are going well.

When things are going badly, the added mental strain must be huge. With how things have gone this season the toll it has taken on CW has to be huge, it's been written all over his face for months.

Its been mentally tough this season just being a fan, imagine being the man that is held responsible for it. CW is also a very proud and stubborn man. In this context is it really that difficult to see why CW is no longer with us.

The prince coming out saying "we pay good wages" was indeed seen by Wilder as being thrown under the bus massively and I do think it led to the retaliatory digs that Wilder came out with a few weeks later
