Stuck in this hinterland of this Division, we are easily the biggest and most well supported club in this Division, and by that line of thinking, we should have resources available to us that are way head than any of current crop of Rivals, yet we remain moored in this sodding league, without seemingly any way out of it.

Everyone is frustrated, everyone blames someone else, and with all the bickering and in fighting there doesn't seem to be anyone pulling together in the same direction.

What needs to happen, is that the powers that be, The Saudi Group and the McCabes need to get their heads together, need a crisis meeting and need to take a long hard look at themselves and the mistakes they are making, and come up with a plan to arrest this perpetual mediocrity, and to slowly but slowly begin putting in the foundations for long-term sustainable growth of this football club, and for sustainable and long-term advancement up the league.

I think a lot of the problem is that we have 2 sets of owners who don't seem to sing off the same hymn sheet. What it needs for them to do is appoint a Sporting Director, or a Director of Football with the remit of looking after all the on the pitch affairs. Someone with a excellent inside knowledge of the game, the contacts and someone who can deal with all aspects, of contracts, player recruitment alongside Nigel Adkins, and deal the agents. This person also needs to take a long look at the club and be able to formulate an achievable and sensible plan based on seeing us back as an established Championship Club in 5 years time. Not being disrespectful to David Green, but he isn't that man.

We also need greater dialogue coming from the club. Jim Phipps cheerleading is just bombast, we don't need excuses as we have had enough of them, we need positive and forward thinking ideas, and need that conveying to the fans,

I'm now at the stage where I would take a couple of more seasons in this division if it meant we was also getting signs from the club they was doing what they can to get us moving ahead in a positive and sustainable way, it is just at the minute there is nothing to come out of the club to suggest that they are doing what they can.

I don't blame Nigel Adkins for any of the current plight, I genuinely believe that if he realised what a rotten state we was in last summer he wouldn't have come, but I also think that he needs the right people backing him, which he clearly hasn't got.

You're right about the dialogue - we need some proper straightforward communications on what is happening behind the scenes, what the thinking is etc. I risk getting slagged here for mentioning them - but every now and then Mandaric used to do an interview on RS and give some idea of what was going on, what he was planning etc. We get hardly anything like that, and I feel sorry for Adkins, there must be stuff he'd like to tell us but can't. Clough also hinted at the issue of having a chairman who lives abroad so presumably he didn't get the communication levels he'd have like either.

OK we've spend more of our history in higher leagues and we have a big fanbase. But I fear it's just as difficult for us to finish in the top two of League One than it is, say, for Leeds or Derby to finish in the top two of the Championship. The club is under achieving but it isn't in full crisis. We need a period of managerial stability, not sure if a new DoF will bring that.

We need to act.

Having a big fanbase gives no one the divine right to ply there trade in a higher division, like the deluded over the city,we are were we because we deserve it,not because where too big to be here.
Bit shit I know.

With our size, fan base and resources it shows how shit the board are at running a football club. Imagine what they would be like running a club with small crowds and limited resources

I agree if Adkins knew what he probably he knows now then I doubt he would have took the job.

I don't think he expected to get a squad with such limited ability and he should at least be supported to make the changes he clearly wants to make. It must annoy him that he was unable to land Burn in the summer and its clear he wanted to get other deals done but it means players have to leave us first.

I think duel ownership is clearly making some decisions harder to make especially when the owners are rarely at the Lane.

And then out of the shadows stepped forward the most unlikely, yet most obvious of heroes....

I think he would have taken it, but if he knew then what he knows now, he would have got rid of the dead wood earlier.
His 1st and biggest mistake.

Is any one of the owners based in England, in Sheffield?

The people making decisions about buying and selling* need to be on the spot for instance if, in a few days time, if the Prince has to be asked? will he be in bed? Is Kevin McCabe out of radio contact because he's in a train under the channel?

Is Jim Phipps around, does he have power of attorney?

The thing feels like 'design by committee' and if people need contacting around the world before an important decision is reached then, well, it seems likely that there will be such a time lag that swift action is impossible.

They who hesitate have lost,

probably 1 - 0

McCabe will have his phone turned off anyway. The Prince is doing government work in Saudi and be unavailable, Jim will be battling the hordes on Twitter and the rest of them don't have a shout in any case.

The only person who thinks it will all fit nicely into place is blade too long and he's still waiting for the postman to deliver a cheque, someone to tell him they love him and can't get rid of that salty taste in his mouth.

Our "bouncing back" strategy, the thinking that we have to do it this year (since 2007), is what is holding us back. Currently our planning seem as short term as ever, with an ageing side, most past their peak, and an awful playing style. However, I think this is a plan B to keep the season alive, and expect radical changes in the summer.

I've also wanted a Director of Football and more football people on the board for years.

The word 'crisis' really stood out for me when reading this thread. I think we are in a bit of a crisis- not the type that requires a knee jerk reaction (like sacking the manager etc) but one that has been going on for a while. We seem to go through the same cycle every year (this was pointed out in another thread) which will never result in us getting promoted.

I'd like to see a bit more ambition from the people in charge to keep our best players (I know that's easier said than done) but we need to break the cycle and really 'give it a go'. I'm guessing that the board and management try and give it a go every year but maybe next year throw a bit of money at it and see what happens.

I don't claim to have all the answers but i just hate seeing this club, my club, dwindling down in the 3rd division

Think your right jon boy and he wouldn't have taken the job if he wasn't to be backed (up the Creek without a paddle) failing here would do his cv no good at all ,that tells me he has backing time will tell.

How do you know that David Green isnt the man? I asked you twice yesterday on who do you think should be our DoF and you still havent answered yet. I dont know much about Green but I am not the sort of person who likes to have opinions without getting the full facts. I would rather you to provide the evidence rather than just guessing!

I have been told in the last few days that the club is hoping that some of our players will move to a new club either permanently or on loan which will bring our wages bill down (60% of our income can be used for wages under FFP rules) but the problem is that some of our players Adkins hope to move out wont leave on less wages (like Neill Collins last year and Marcus Williams a few years ago). The departures might happen before the deadline, and if so , then Adkins will be able to bring in his targets.

It would be silly to break the rules and then face a transfer embargo this summer

Totally agree with you, well said.
Derek Dooley was never replaced.
There is no one at the club on a daily basis, board level with any idea on football and no business can be run successfully without a manager or MD.
One is in Belgium and one far away.
Having two owners is not the answer.
Without getting into which football manager is the better option we have tried changing them on a regular basis and we are still in this division with very little sign of succeeding.
Time for changes in the board room which is the root cause of all the problems.
Just because one can run a successful commercial business is no qualification to run a football club.
What an utter mess the club is in with the best support in the division , the fans deserve much more.
How much longer will fans pay to watch such mediocrity.

Jim is ill apparently...he'll be better some time after the transfer window closes...

Agreed. We've had multiple new dawns, but never grasped the need for a football strategy. If I was a United manager, knowing I'd only ever get one season to achieve something, then I'd gamble on players like Barry Robson, Dave Kitson, Danny Higginbottom, Michael Higdon, Dean Hammond. What have I got to lose? AN Other player is better than no player if I'm not able to wait for something better.

So someone needs to sit alongside the coach keeping an eye on the age profile of the squad in each position, and what things will look like in two years time. Also advising the board to make sure we don't lurch from one managerial style to another, rendering multiple players unwanted with each change.

Whether that's a DoF or a Dooley equivalent I don't really care.

Sadly Mr Adkins keeps telling us we are united together. From boardroom down to the players through to the fans we seem anything but at the moment. Not sure what sort of changes are required higher up the scale but the powers that be need to seriously get together and decide in which direction we are going because at present we are a rudderless ship drifting to knowhere
