I've given the first part of that a like. But as for the "complete hash"... Nah. Until we know what Clough's budget was we can't know whether it was ever possible to replace the quality that was Harry, Brayford and Coady.

I didn't mean specifically in relation to those players, I meant more generally. If it isn't possible to find direct replacements then the manager has to come up with alternatives, and Clough hasn't done well enough in my opinion. E.g. it is obvious now he was committed to sticking with the 4-5-1 formation. Yet he thought Basham was an ideal player for this formation in the centre of midfield? That's been a disaster and it's only when Basham was forced to play at the back that we've seen any form from him.

Regarding Maguire, we were told again and again there was no pressure to sell. The pressure came from Clough not wanting a sulky player on his hands, arguably. Either we were lied to about not having to sell players or Clough didn't have the balls to keep him against his wishes. Either way, not great for us the fans.

The biggest problem with us being so low this season is that there aren't any Charlton's, Southampton's or Norwich's in this league; the teams in it are bang average and we're making an almighty hash of it this season. Given the teams in the Championship I dread to think when we might look like challenging the top 2.

As has already been stated on this thread and before by others and myself; we never brought in a striker since Chedgate (to replace Ched) even now O'Grady is seen by Clough as the answer and he's not our player.
Add to that the mediocrity Clough has brought in, with a midfield of midgets who get bullied in this league.
(One of the reasons we've done well against Premier league teams is that they get more time on the ball compared to L1!)
I like Reed, he's our most talented player in the current squad, but he's not used effectively, the same can be said about Diego.
This false 9 doesn't work: Baxter for all his obvious talent is not good enough and the rest of the team just aren't performaning in the league.
Finally, will we ever see Wallace play more than 45 mins?

Take this how you want to take it, it isn't intended as a direct attack as such as I understand that for whatever reason it isn't possible for fans to attend every away game however I am most certain that if you would have shelled out on that shower of shite yesterday as I and many others did as opposed to listening to it on the radio and spending your time in the shoutbox, I very much doubt that you would have had the same level of optimism.

I don't want to knock the manager too much as he is doing certain things right however it simply isn't acceptable for him to come out after the match saying "we matched them in all areas of the pitch" after that performance. I would all be good and well saying that had we played out of our skins against a team who also played out of their skins however I again watched a team who didn't have the quality required to open up a team who in all fairness weren't anything special and were probably there for the taking if we had been productive.

It is all good and well hiding behind the FFP rules and everything else however the fact is that Clough has put his print on this squad and signed wholesale, we have several players for certain positions of the pitch which means healthy competition within the ranks however the lack of significant quality and game changers is blatantly obvious throughout!. The players that we already had within the team who stood out last year have suddenly disappeared into the background again.

I like a good few things about Clough however you have to weigh up the job at hand which is promotion from this league, we haven't lived up to expectations as of yet and you don't have to be a manager to see where we are flopping. If you go week in week out you can see that we are set up in quite a negative manner, we don't have the maturity in the team required to play in the manner that Clough would like us to play.

This window is pivotal as to whether we even make the play offs at this rate. We need a change in appraoch, we need to set ourselves up in a more attacking minded style, we need some quality, game changers, a goal scorer!.....Those hiding behind FFP remember Maguire has gone, Butler has gone, Collins and Porter on way out, a few youngsters have gone. The money is there for wages!
