So telling me to get fucked is a bit much then?
No, I'll tell you to get fucked again if you tell me I am weak for being offended by jokes about the worst moment of my life.

People can be offended, just because you are not, doesn't mean I can't be.

Just to clarify though, I used to make jokes with my mum while she was fighting it, she had a wicked sense of humor and I told her if she was put on more than 10 tablets a day I would take her to the abattoir and turn her into glue.

Those last few weeks though have changed my outlook on what I find funny. And I will tell you again to get fucked if I can't be offended about this.

The problem lies when some have a dog at others for feeling uncomfortable with things which not everyone is bothered about

It's about empathy and listening more than it is about finding some objective stance on what is 'offensive'

It's a tricky one.

Banter is all part of football culture, especially when it's comical and witty
but then like in comedy, sometimes it can go over the edge or be in bad taste.

Think it's important to say that those signing these songs aren't gong to start action like vikings, raping and pillaging the locals.
Shoreham boys we are here, rape your cattle and steal your women?

Too many people "triggered" and not actually listening to each others points. There are plenty of reasonable explanations of why people want to change the lyrics.

Look, 28% of voters think it's misogynistic. 29% said it's embarrassing. That dwarves the 37% that have no problem with it.

I personally rarely sing the last line. In my opinion it's just NOT "inclusive" of any female fans in attendance, also a bad example to set for young boys and men.

The song is edgy banter for men of a certain age. Single men presumably (lucky bastards).

For everyone else it's embarrassing/offensive/inappropriate/regrettable. There's no point being annoyed if you're in the 37% that voted yes - and nobody is going to actually stop you singing it - but it's a debate on the topic for consideration.
Who mentioned the dwarfs ,that's hit a new low 🤣

You can be offended all day and night. You can't stop me making jokes about cancer though. It is of course a free country, and offense is what you feel yourself. It's not a natural reaction. As I say, considering I'm battling it myself, we're at an impasse. You're offended. I'm not.

Songs sung about the Munich air disaster and the 2 Leeds fans killed in Turkey are songs that are beyond offensive and anyone singing them should be banned for life shoreham boys is sung by the full stadium so obviously women don't see it as offensive or they wouldn't sing It.
No comparison really.

None of that is the reason why I told you to get fucked though. Would clarify though that offended literally means to become upset or angry which is very much a natural reaction.

The reason why I told you to get fucked is that you said offended equals weak.

So if a joke about cancer causes me to become upset or angry because it takes me back to the memory of watching my mum die, am I weak?

Your mum dying is very sad and a natural reaction to it is to feel upset. A joke about a condition she unfortunately died with, like my grandad did who I saw wither away until his final breath, isn't the same response. We're not born offended by stuff. We learn it.

You're offended. I'm not. Leave it at that.

And again, I'm battling it personally. Not secondary. My feelings should be far more tender than yours. But I'm staying strong. No jokes or quips about cancer are gonna stop me battling day after day. So get yourself fucked.

I thought it was the the motto of the Metropolitan Police. Clearly though in this world of woke it might be deemed offensive by some.

Clearly, being told to get fucked has offended you though.

You've not answered my question - am I weak? If someone says something that offends me about a topic that upsets me for a genuine reason, am I weak?

Or should I just bury those feelings down and pretend I don't have any emotions because having emotions is a sign of weakness?

I sometimes join in with the chant on the south stand but always stop at woah woah and would never dream of muttering the last bit!

Having emotions isn't a sign of weakness. Human emotion is natural. Losing a loved one is the most emotional thing humans can go through. Being offended is something you choose. You can choose to not listen. Ignore it. Or take it in, look the other person in the eye and know you're a better man. I'd say being offended by some words is a sign of weakness yes I would. Tell me to get fucked again. I don't care. As I say, I'm battling cancer myself. I'm on the front line. I'm determined to not let any words get me down. I even make jokes about it myself. Again, words can't hurt unless we allow them.

I suppose the difference between cancer jokes and the chant is that people aren't chanting cancer jokes at United matches

Edit: I'm away behind, apologies if this is no longer relevant and the chat has move on. I should read the whole lot before responding

My 14 year old daughter has recently joined me, my brother, 2 of my mates at the Lane. She finds it hilarious watching those she loves behaving like proper blokes. She's a modern lass & not offended in the slightest.

Heard this afternoon in poundland worksop, 2 early teen girls ' Oh they sell razors, get one for your scruffy minge' / 'Well at least I havent got a pair of bollocks like you '

And some worry about singing shag your women 🤦‍♂️

Fuck, I miss the UK!

I spoke to a few girls at work when the Ched Evans trial was on.
A few actually said "we've all got pissed and ended up in bed with a bloke and not had a clue how you met them".
One actually laughed and said "if that's rape, then I've been raped several times".

Found it ironic that it was generally the men that were horrified by Ched's behaviour
where as some of the young women didn't think what he'd done was a big deal.
I'm pretty old, so it opened my eyes at how people view things differently.

There is quite some difference between waking up in bed with somebody and having to piece together you've ended up in bed with them, than not even knowing you'd had sex with somebody, because they've scarpered, and you've woke up alone in an environment you didn't expect to be in.

At least with the former, you can verify whether condoms were used, whether you need to go to a clinic after etc, whether you might need to take a morning after pill.

I use to go to our top office which was staffed by a dozen or so girls/ ladies and spend a couple of hours a day doing my work in the same office . If you think men are sexist , wow, they could be a lot worse than the 60 or so male employees working there. Got to say loved everyone of them .
Even got the full explanation of " a wide on" turned 60 and taking the mick for not knowing.

Live your life how you want but do the rest of us a favour, keep your nonsense opinions to yourself.

Word to anyone going through anything rough at the minute, don't listen to this guy. If someone/something offends you, feel upset, don't try to bury your feelings because bellends tell you it's weakness. Nothing good will come from trying to ignore how you feel and not getting to the bottom of why you feel that way.

Well in my case, someone calling my illness out and me feeling shit about it could lead me down a path full of self-pity. "Oh look at you, look like you've come out the camps ya skinny cunt" - yeh thanks. I feel shit and your words have made me feel worse. Let me go home to feel even more shit about myself and my condition.

Or...

Yeah I know mate but I'm trying to fight back. Thanks for your input.

So the first example would be me showing a sign of weakness to that individual by sulking my arse off. Make any sense to ya? As I said, I'm going through it myself, not my parent or relative, me.
