Shittest Blades Sides Ever

It's very hard to look past the Adkins season it was an horrendous squad lacking personality, heart, desire and resilience. Totally lacking in the key areas, save Sharp. This squad certainly share some of those traits though!

No matter how bad things are though, and no matter how some feel about Wilder, at least he doesn't wear brown brogues and quote self help books.

Where did all this relatively speaking come from? The OP title clearly just says Shittest Blades Sides Ever, not, Shittest Blades Sides Ever Relative to League Position and Expectation.

Anyway the answer is the 1980-81 Haslam/Peters side, closely followed by the class of 2015-16 Adkins side.
The 1981-82 Porterfield side WON division 4 scoring 94 goals on the way so I'm surprised they've even been mentioned.

Watch any highlights from games in 1980-81, it's absolute dogshit football. You'll see better on the park.

It depends on the definition of worst. If you're talking ability, no. A few weeks ago we peed all over Preston for 40 minutes on their own patch. Could quite easily have been 3 or 4. Tonight we probably shaded the first half against top of the league. Played some good stuff at times. In terms of ability: no.

If you are bringing in things like professionalism, fitness, taking personal responsibility, attitude towards the fans and their employer, it might be the worst. How can a bunch of professional athletes in the prime of their life only be able to compete for 50 minutes? The fact that they can give top of the league Coventry a game on ability then becomes totally redundant. Give me a technically inferior team that can run around who isn't essentially mugging us all off over this lot any day

If we are just going on league positioning to decide then obviously the team that won the 4th division has to be the worst blades team ever as that is our lowest ever league position so therefore it's irrefutable, there could possibly be the argument that the team that got relegated the season before may have been worse than them but if it's just based on league positioning as some are arguing it is then the answer is obvious
The main difference is the Division Four side had Keith Edwards, and Colin Morris towards the end.

Us getting relegated in an embarrassing way, last home game of the season and the players being forced to repeat the Adkins lap of shame from 2016 would bring a nice circularity to the third Wilder parable.

Time is a flat circle, every 3 week I get my hair cut.

Don’t hate this team as much as I hated the 15/16. Baxter, McNulty, Adams all massive twats.

Wilson’s second season team was boring and shit. Tony McMahon etc.

I remember the days when Michael Higdon joined us after having an impressive scoring record in Dutch football.
On his debut I was quite impressed and thought we’d made a great signing… his debut was his best ever display for us….he was shocking after that
Looked like we signed a brickie straight from site, massively overweight and unfit

Yes, because as I did say in my comment "you have to consider the relativity".

That team were League One with a substantially less well regarded squad, with much less experience, getting paid a lot less money.

The present bunch are 'useless on a lot more money' and choosing to use much less of their (supposed) natural talent'.

So, yes. I think they are.

utb

So, they're worse because... they're better?

Thanks all of you, reminding me of all that shit over the years. That’s me shrieking and waking up in a cold sweat before my 3:30 am piss in the morning.
Thankfully I don't have any nightmares or dreams so I'm safe on that part of not having the recurring moment of you know who stepping up to the plate to take THAT penalty cos nobody else had the bottle to do so ........

Haslam / Peters
You are completely correct and there really is no argument about it. Yes we've had plenty of other poor sides, probably Adkins team was the nearest but that lot were the worst by a large margin. They actually won the first 3 games of the season and 5 of the first 7 and still managed to get us relegated to division 4

Not sure about worst team but I do love to think of my worst xi, only since 2003/4 so may be missing some older ones I'm sure, and a new entry just because of how much I detest him!

Steve Simonsen

Darryl Westlake - Mark McGuinness - Nyron Nosworthy - Marcus Williams

Febian Brandy - Dean Hammond - Jonny Ertl - Martyn Woolford

Connor Sammon - Jon Forte

Honourable mentions for John Cofie, Adam Davies, Tony McMahon, Neill Collins, Michael Doyle (personal vendetta), Joe Mattock, Simon Lappin, Aidy White, Jordan Stewart, Andy Taylor - god we've had some shit left backs haven't we

When it comes to the ability of the team relative to the level they were playing at, some of the sides we've put out in the Prem in 20/21 and 23/24 have been embarrassingly bad.

The team against Palace on the opening day a couple of years ago was primed for relegation from the Championship, never mind the Premier League.

Going back though, some of who we had in the long stint in League One were dire, especially when you look at what became of many of those players after they'd left us, ending up in non-league and many of the teams we played at that level as well.

We were a Chris Wilder and a Mo Diame away from becoming Notts County in red and white.

That Adkins team had few to no redeeming features aside from Billy bagging a fair few. Even the likes of Coutts were utterly dogshit and he'd go on to be one of my favourite players a year later. The Micky Adams team was bad too. You knew you'd lost before a ball was kicked.

£ for point you’d have to say either the 20/21 or 23/24 squad. Well paid (for United anyway) but absolutely useless.

In terms of being generally unlikeable this squad runs the 15/16 squad close.

I was full of optimism in 1975 76 after narrowly missing out on Europe. Abject season ensued.
