Shittest Blades Sides Ever

Go on then, a nice bit of nostalgia to cheer us up, what Blades sides have been even shitter than this lot?
You have to consider the relativity of the standards and salaries of the football and players at the time....but I'd say this is the worst.

Adkins era was bad but this lot are in front all things considered.

Embarrassing.

We are a fairly expensively assembled relegation battle club.

Which is why each week we have opposition fans and managers saying we are in a false position. Which of course we are not. I would say there have been a few and I mean like 3 matches we shouldn't have lost and got more out of. But can't complain about tonight.

Would say the team battled. And I would say first half did a really good job overall. Couldn't have started the 2nd half worse. We needed to hold them off for longer. And we've yet again gifted them a goal for the 2nd.

So you would consider this lot worse than a side that conceded 4 at home to Shrewsbury and 3 at home to Bury?,

Yes, because as I did say in my comment "you have to consider the relativity".

That team were League One with a substantially less well regarded squad, with much less experience, getting paid a lot less money.

The present bunch are 'useless on a lot more money' and choosing to use much less of their (supposed) natural talent'.

So, yes. I think they are.

But the fact is we were a division below losing to teams like Shrewsbury so they aren’t worse end of argument really.

Nah that Micky Adams team is still the worst, there wasn't anyone in that squad that I couldn't wait to see go. Also, that season I felt we were down before the managerial merry go round.

This squad still has the likes of O'Hare and Gus. I do think Cooper is a fine keeper but clearly has been carrying an issue. If we can't cut out the mistakes then yes we will be fucked.

That wasn’t the question, you’ve added your own caveat of relativity.

This side is nowhere near as bad as 1979, 1981, 1988, 2011 and several seasons after that before Wilder arrived.

Can’t remember the season. But the one where we had the likes of Scougs and Mceverly. Glory days!
Martyn Woolford. Dean Hammond. Club Captain Michael Higdon. Conor Sammon. Conor. Fucking. Sammon. You're right though, it was quite funny wannit?

(and unbefuckinlievably Billy Sharp and Bash were in that side too)

If we get relegated this season, it'll trump the Adkins season for biggest underperformance I've been around for.

Makes me sick reliving it. I remember watching bashs debut thinking “who’s this clown” - how wrong were I!

Bash was one of the worst of the lot playing CM that season, absolute donkey running into people like he was pissed. 😂

I really didn't realise we were having an "argument".

You do understand the meaning of relativity in this case, don't you? The players THEN were of a lower (supposed) standard to the ones we have now, therefore expectations placed upon them and expected of them were LOWER.

Today's team are generally thought to be BETTER, therefore expectations are HIGHER. My opinion is that this team is RELATIVELY worse than that team. Get it?

At the end of the day it's all totally subjective and therefore not worthy of an "argument". You have your opinion and I have mine.

There is no right or wrong.....so no "argument".

I remember the days when Michael Higdon joined us after having an impressive scoring record in Dutch football.
On his debut I was quite impressed and thought we’d made a great signing… his debut was his best ever display for us….he was shocking after that.
In fact I did wonder if he had a twin brother and done a body swap.

Also remember the days when I thought Chris Porter had a bit of Keith Edward about him
And in the early days thought Connor Salmon had potential to be a good striker.

Today’s team is far far better…..however the fall from grace and level of under performance is pretty shocking.
In fact I don’t think ability is the issue…when there was no pressure (being underdogs) we looked quite good first half.

My issue was the lack of character. Once it became 2-1 for about 20 to 30 minute our players (apart from O’Hare) gave up and accepted defeat.
When you’re in a relegation scrap….its all about character not ability,

So, relativity isn't important, then?

if it isn't it should be a simple question to answer. It'll be the team that gave us our worst historical league position.

I don't think the question was asked in that context.

I think relative to expectations this is definitely the worst side of my time supporting United. It just compounds the fact we are a club that is forever wrong time wrong place.
I think in my opinion its because we've always tried to do things on the cheap.( yes i accept we've spent money but basically on crap) we've had owners after owners who have either got nowt or refused to back us in the good times, and sometimes use us as a stepping stone with there businesses. I'm not going into managers, as we've had that many useless bastards it makes my teeth itch 😬

If we are just going on league positioning to decide then obviously the team that won the 4th division has to be the worst blades team ever as that is our lowest ever league position so therefore it's irrefutable, there could possibly be the argument that the team that got relegated the season before may have been worse than them but if it's just based on league positioning as some are arguing it is then the answer is obvious
