It was (and may still be) designated for housing although I heard that the ground conditions are are causing real issues which will significantly add to the cost of developing houses across the site. it’s a very attractive residential site so this may explain why nothing has happened.

Off topic but did anyone ever go in the old gym behind the South Stand? That was a strange place with the Victorian prison style walk ways looking down onto a tiny 5-aside pitch made from the old green carpet stuff.

no official land assesments have been carried out other than desktop excercises proviiosnal plans are just that provisional plans.
no access has been officially given to SUFC by SCC (although the site can be acessed by the public) . the only work that has occurred has been the removal of the buildings that had asbestos roofing etc. and that has been done by SCC for H&S reasons.

Used to frequent the Southey Club on Sunday lunchtime.
Five Arches mainly tho.

As an aside..I went to see the band "Wishbone Ash" recently at a small club in Denver.
Gave us chance to chat with the band members.
They have a new guitarist called Mark Abrahams.
He's from Leeds and he told me he cut his teeth playing at Southey Green Club (and other Sheffield WM clubs)...I was amazed he'd even heard of it.

In my opinion, one issue with the current set up is the location of the SUCF.
I believe the club are obligated to have a community arm, and rightly so, however you have wide eyed 16yr olds mingling with elite athletes in the same building.
The vibe in the bottom building is like Rowlinson sports centre.
The 1st Team only pass through but it would be nice for the scholars and women's team who are based in that building to have a more professional feel to their environment.
Like I said, only my opinion bits it's like my block release days at Stannington College with some top division footballers thrown in for people to gawp at.

Do on Wednesday (post 66) you confidently stated that 'no land assessments have been done'. After other posters told you that they definately had as they had seen them being done, you now state 'anyone can do them and they don't mean owt'.

That changed pretty quickly.

Are you a property developer in competition with SUFC to buy this land or something? The way you are so dismissive of this potential purchase for the club, and the way you stated that you would tell the club to do one...

I'm confident that if SUFC want the site, a deal with SCC will be done and we will get the site. If we do, I will be pleased. Seemingly you won't be. Why is that..? Maybe you work for the SCC as you seem to imply that you know a lot about this and what SUFC have or haven't done so far. Mind you I have my doubts that you actually do. We will see how this plays out...

It's already been mentioned that they would be building a brand new site on Norton for the Academy and they would update Shirecliffe for the first team.
