We won’t agree on this one mate.

I thought they had quality all across the team sheet and brought on subs that would walk into our starting XI.

It took a lot of dedication and discipline to keep them at bay. Plenty of players were probably running on empty.

Plenty of folk wanted to see more structure and method and they got that. The Phillips, Arblaster and Peck all did well. Ayew made a surprisingly good impression.

There were encouraging signs we just didn’t take the key moments.

Ayew looked shattered after one run. Will take a while to get him up to speed.

Had to watch on tv today but that was probably the best all round game we have had this season.

Admittedly they weren’t as good as I expected or feared, but possibly because we were well organised and handled them pretty well.

The key thing for me was that we needed pace on the break. A few times we were in good positions but without the pace to be direct, had to check back by which time they got numbers back.

Phillips, Blaster and Peck looked decent as a midfield three. When Philips went off we definitely looked more vulnerable.

It’s so frustrating that the goal we conceded was easily avoidable, rather than some individual brilliance.

When we kept the ball down and passed it we looked decent. Pace up top or down the sides would have made a huge difference as they were vulnerable.

We were more in the game than matches previously and had spells of momentum Neither side were what you would call slick. Defensively we looked better organised and had a few great last ditch tackles.

All that covered off a few major issues in how we set up to play. The first one being our sole tactic early on to hoof it long and wide to McCallum. The second being having no width on the right hand side going forward as Arblaster was moving in field. But we also had no width defending often ignoring a wide player and a full back as Choudhry and Arblaster were too far away from their men.

The width problem was solved by going to 433 in formation but with the wrong players on the pitch to play it. Ayew Bamford and Cannon. Replacing Philips with Rothwell. BBD with Cannon. We gave over competing for the ball in midfield and expected 2 slow older forwards with a physically uncompetitive forward to stretch the opposition.

We moved from a highline at the back with minor pressing to a low block with even less pressing. The goal was forecast with 20 minutes to go.

Can someone get a tazer and give Wilder a zap or two. I am so weary looking at inverted wingers on the break slowing it all down, creating nothing, nothing and even more nothing. Also can somone shout at him to sit the f@%k down when we get an attacking free kick. I see Arblaster and Peck receiving instructions about what to do with the ball. Let them play it as they see it in front of them.

Tommy Doyle gamefully describes his mis-hit shot:

“When (Kieran Trippier) crossed it in it took a deflection and I thought I'd pass instead of shooting. (Raul Jimenez) is always in the right place."

So the game was decided by a deflection off RND’s arse and a mishit shot (pass) which fell kindly at the feet of the world’s second best poacher after Billy Sharp

Lots of promising stuff despite the loss .

One of those games that could have gone either way .

Solid basis to work on , formation looked better , kitching made some good runs , Ayew showed something, cannon won headers and some better than average performances all over the park .

Less tough challenges await and with players returning it should make a difference.

Makes you wonder whether managers are so focused on positions they forget the complete picture.

As you say, Donovan aside, and when Seriki isn’t fit, there is no pace.

Same when Clough assembled a team of midgets and commented that we weren’t the best defending set pieces!

Hopefully a preview of the blueprint for the season.

If we can imagine that side with Femi , Choudry to stat or sub in midfield , Donovan and one starting with chong backing up then weve a decent set up .

Hopefully with full availability we'll have enough to mire than compete with 75% of teams. We wont win every week but gather enough points to keep us in the challenge for top 3rd ( not top 3).

There are certainly some positives to take from a defensive standpoint and I don't necessarily disagree with a 5-3-2 formation but if we play 5 across the back, we don't have the quality in midfield to be the driving force to keeping our forwards in the game and ensuring quality through balls.

Also, a big concern is the lack of speed.

Truth be told, while we were defensively sound today we really didn't look like scoring except for a couple of quality pass from out wide into the box.

Its a condundrum for sure. While we were more solid at the back, we lacked quality to score and we have no speed to move quickly from the back on the counter attack.

This is not a title contending team, that is for sure. We will do well with this squad to finish mid-table but a top 8 finish is clearly not going to happen.

If the club business plan is to reduce expenses, cut agent fees, and work within our financrial means then stay with this formation and get through the season and rebuild. But, the rest of the EPL world is passing us by to the point we won't get back to the Prem unless we get a true billionaire benefactor.

We won't get back to the Premier League until we actually have a long term transfer strategy and plan for the next 2-3 seasons, rather than our ongoing "this season it's shit or bust" where we rely heavily on expensive loans and "Wilder's Old Boys" where we keep signing players who have played for us before with little quality or consistency coming from them.

Until we get a director of football and actually scout players in League One and leagues similar in quality to the Championship then we will never progress on the pitch.

This club will never progress whilst it keeps doing the same things over and over. Teams all around us are finding gems for low costs, developing and improving them, then selling them for profit which then pays for a replacement and allows us them to strengthen another position in their starting line ups.

We just go through the motions every season and hope for the best. There is zero evidence of any kind of long term transfer strategy or plan for progression beyond this season.

Peck and Phillips looked good.

McCallum won every header but none of the other players seemed to cotton on and bothered winning the 2nd ball.

Choudhury only got done by Mane 90% of the time instead of every single time, slight improvement for him.

What lost us the game were two things for me.

1) They had good subs and used them to change things in the last 30 mins.

2) We decided to treat the game like it was non-league v Man City and retreated into the defensive third for 30 mins. They then just kept coming forward and eventually scored.

All the fans could see what was happening, so setting us up like a set of retreat monkeys against a team that weren’t actually that good was unfathomable.

A very wise and intuitive appraisal. The extent of micro management is disappointing and poor old McCallum will almost certainly be a victim of early onset, should this tactic prevail.

Only managed to watch the first half and bits of the second but we went toe to toe but never really looked like we were going to trouble their goalkeeper. We're so reluctant to shoot and it's quite simple really - if we don't shoot we don't score. Then it was standard Wilder. 85th minute, sitting deep, no outlets, no pace, it's all very predictable. May as well make some money out of it!

Seriously. Choudhury? To start? Want him nowhere near the team. I’ve watched that today. What a fucking disaster. 20 yards off his man. Quick feint by the winger, ball over the top and he can’t catch him. How many times did he skin him when he did get close? How many times did he lose out in the tackle? Balls gone on the break where’s Choudhury? Just on his way back. Don’t worry Tanganga is covering. Another Wildermasterclass.

I used to think, I can’t be arsed if he’s going to be a twat and pick Cannon because it’s a waste of time. Now I’m honestly not bothered if he’s going to be an arrogant stubborn twat and try to prove us all wrong with Choudhury.

Disappointed with the result but not at all surprised, given the limitations of our squad and managers tactics, as others have pointed out above.

Listened to his post match presser, another dig in at the 'loyal supporters' providing backing.

Us loyal supporters stayed in the stand until well after FT to clap the players off.

It's just a shame that chippy Wilder can't be bothered to be with them when we lose. Straight down the tunnel. Again.

Some valid points by Chris. But categorising us as “a really good group of honest players” should be the bear minimum of every profession football team.

I want us to have a group of attacking minded positive players who want to go out and grab 3 points every game, irrespective of the opposition. Aided by the Manager.

Just listened to Wilder Post match, god he can't stop moaning about getting criticism, not for the first time.

Get over it mate, get your head down and just get on with it, woe is me all the bleeding time.

The team were much better today, accept it and move on, let performances answer the critics.
