I thought in the end we were quite comfortable and deserving of the win.
We didn't start all that well. As others have said, WBA pressed us well for the first 20 minutes which resulted in us turning the ball over far too many times. There were a lot of forced/aimless passes that just gave the ball back to them. despite this I don't think they really troubled us in attack with what seemed to be the same plan each time - edge the ball forward and hope to get a throw-in/free kick around our area so that the ball could be fired into the box.
A team that struggled so badly to deal with the any kind of cross at their place coped quite comfortably at the Lane and with the exception of Diangana going clean through (Offside) only to be denied brilliantly by Baldock, they hardly threatened us.
We got a bit of luck with the deflection for the first goal but after that we started to compose ourselves and controlled the ball better.
The sending off was maybe a little harsh but I think justified. He was high and came at Hourihane from behind. I don't think there was any malice in it but it was dangerous - One of those that if Hourihane had his leg planted then its a strong possibility he's getting carried off with a broken leg.
Second half they had a short spell where they pressed us again but seemed to run out of steam. Again we took control and imposed ourselves on them pretty well.
Billy's second goal was beautifully worked and well taken. On another day he could have had 3 with the one that sneaked over the top to him but it was a great save from Johnstone. Add to that the one that Ndiaye should have done better with and the scoreline could have been more convincing.
Overall I thought that we managed the game fairly well against a strong opposition who destroyed us at their place.
The league table is looking more positive with each game. There is real momentum at the moment. Hopefully we can keep it going.

Cracking atmosphere at the Lane last night. The GCB made the neck stand up on the front of my hairs. This is what momentum tastes like!

I must be frank, the results are surprising me and I'm still waiting for both the wheels and entire chassis to come off this particular team's bus.

However, should Hecky actually manage to turn this season around and qualify for the play-offs, I'll have some serious humble pie to eat come May.

Considering our terrible record of only ever achieving elimination or relegation via the play-offs, I for one won't be judging him on games 47, 48 or 49 of the season ;) 🤣

Tonight's a big test and Middlesbrough will be an even bigger one mentally for players and manager.

UTB
Another heap added last night to my already sizeable portion of humble pie by Hecky & Co! 😳

In my excited state after the match I completely forgot about the two corners which hourihane played to Norwood on the edge of the box.
The first looked like Norwood hit it beautifully but cannoned off someone in the box.
I have criticised Norwood recently for his lack of shots - particularly as he can hit a ball.
Was a pleasant surprise and hope to see more of this. I’m also surprised Hourihane doesn’t shoot more often for the same reasons.

Don't worry about it, there's so many of us eating humble pie it will be sold in the Kop food kiosks.
Don’t even think about buying a slice at half time tho…. Unless you want to queue up at around 35 mins in.
And even then it will be piping hot on the outside and a frozen dollop in the middle!
