Great finish by Brooks for his goal and showed great awareness to be on the front foot to get on the end of the mistake and read OHare to get in on goаl,a seasoned striker finish, simple and with power.

So to summarise your last paragraph you are basically writing off the top 2 while as we speak we are sat in the top 2!. Also that we won’t bring in any quality in January without any knowledge of what’s going off behind the scenes what so ever.

The negativity from some of our fan base is unreal.
In the cold light of day, I think we all, every single one of us, are surprised and very happy at being in the top 3 at the end of 2024.

So, in sitting back, we have to temper our criticism and disappointment and realize the difficulties that the club and players have battled through to get to the top 3.

Unless we get some superior players in in the JTW, which we will not, top 6 should be our ultimate goal and see how we handle the playoffs.

But certainly, top 2 is beyond us.

Well they said Tom Davies hadnt scored in three years. Must have been a different T Davies then against Sunderland.

I would trust their captions department more than I would trust their pundits to do research

Just being realistic really. Without quality additions there is zero chance this squad finishes top 2. It's a miracle we are even in this position and Wilder deserves all the credit for it.

I think it's worth prefacing this by saying that WBA were poor and there for the taking. Several talented players who can't play together. Without a manager.

A point isn't the worst result considering our threadbare squad and tiredness but we were largely poor. Brooks was the only real bright spark but his decision making is that of a player his age. Chuffed he got his first goal though. Our midfield was tired and poor and they went through us way too often. Our defenders had very little cover but we weren't punished. It was another poor performance all round really. Too many mistakes and once again I'm not sure what the plan is going forward. Could have gone either way in the end.

Cooper - 6 - Pushed a ball straight into Fellow's path first half which he somehow missed. Didn't really have the best of games today with his all-round play.
Burrows - 6 - Put in a few good crosses going forward and stuck to his task. He makes things happen and fairly solid at the back.
Robinson - 5 - Did a few usual blood and thunder challenges but he looks slow and dithers too much. I thought we was quite weak today.
Anel - 5.5 - Looked fairly solid had to cover a fair few things. Nothing special but glad he's back. Loses a mark for stupidly pulling his man to the ground from a corner. Could have easily been a pen.
Gilchrist - 5.5 - Another difficult game defensively but yet again little help. Got forward much more and caused a fair amount of chaos on the edge of their box.
Peck - 4 - Fairly anonymous. Looks absolutely shattered at the moment.
Davies - 6 - Made a lot of mistakes but also was the one looking to take a chance to get moves started. Had a fair few shots today and you'd expect better.
Hamer - 3.5 - Very lucky not to get two yellows. Wilder really needs to sort out his disciplinary issues as we're going to lose him for two games very soon. I thought in general he huffed and puffed and looked a bit disinterested. Needs to be played more centrally.
O'Hare - 5 - Lovely backflick for the goal which he then replicated a couple of times but outside of a few tricks he's far too lightweight and doesn't offer enough.
Brooks - 7 - Great to see him get his first goal and he gave us the energy we've been badly lacking. He was the one causing them issues. Needs to work on his decision making and end product, but easily our best player.
Moore - 5 - Had a couple of chances which he needs to do much better with. I thought Bartley won most of their battles.

Subs:

Brewster - 1 - Inept
Think your Peck and Davies scores need swapping. Peck had a solid game whereas lost count the number of times Davies lost possession sloppily (5?) in promising areas and we almost conceded from breakaways.

Yes I agree that as things stand we don’t have enough depth in our squad to sustain our position. But given the transfer window is just about to open surely it’s better to reserve judgement for now and see how our squad looks at the end of January.

I'll bet one pence to your net worth that without "quality additions" we finish top two, quote to book

yeah will take a point could easily have lost that and surely has to be the last game davies and peck play together in midfield too similar get hamer off that stupid left side position and get him in central midfield thought we needed 4 in but beginning to think 6 now i would also ditch this 4231 now and try something different

I wasn't being negative, far from it. I've said my criticisms on this forum but as I watched this game against a very very poor WBA team, I had to realize what is realistic for this team this season. We have definately over achieved and, yes, with Leeds and Burnley there, we will not be in the top 2 at the end of the season.

That's what I saw today,

Unbelievable reaction on here!, considering the team put out, the bench & opposition that was a well earned point. We can't recruit for a few more days so get behind the team, we're top FFS!!
Like I say, impressive we are top but i’m can’t pretend there’s not a lot of work to do.

I only watched it on the telly so I’ll happily defer to those of you that were there, but I’m not sure this ‘tired’ narrative matches what I saw. I thought we dominated that last 30 minutes and that if either team was going to get a winner then it would be us. Our mentality was excellent, carried on pressing to the end and WBA will be delighted with the point. I don’t think we were out on our feet, we were still pressing at the end.
Good effort, still top.

That's very generous for Brewster.

A much more enjoyable game than the Burnley game. That was like a chess match where as at times this was like a basketball game.

They equalised on the stroke of half time but think 1-1 was a fair half time scoreline.

2nd half was concerning because WBA were startling to take control making us look like the away team and many of our players looked knackered.

However we finished the last 30 minutes quite strongly forcing WBA to do some defending. We had several great situations and we could easily have won but overall think a draw was probably a fair result.

Our man of the match was Andre Brooks. Scored a really good goal and then he was flowing with confidence, worked really hard too. Thought O’Hare was decent too.

Our weak player was probably Hamer who again had a quiet game, also thought Moore looked isolated and out of sorts but we weren’t playing to his strength and Brewster was very rusty/ poor when he came on.

I accept that we have been badly hit by the absence of Souttar , Blaster , Souza & Campbell who was in a scoring groove.
And somewhat affected by the loss of Seriki & JRS.
And Davies looked knackered today.
But I don't understand why CW persists with having our 2 flair players , Hamer & Brooks , on the wrong side of the pitch.

Imo , if Brooks had been on his naturally stronger LW today , he would have produced even more.
Countless times he failed to get anywhere from the R touchline and attacks broke down.

Same with Hamer , on the L touchline he was passing forward with the outside of his R foot , bizarre.

Get back to basics Chris , get those two on the side which favours their stronger foot - at least try them there when we are getting nowhere , even if it's for only some of the game.

I'd love to know what folk mean when they say "recruit a LW" !

We have 2 L-footed wingers already in JRS & Brooks - I call them LWs - but we play them on the R.

So do folk mean "recruit a R winger" (to play on the L) ?

I'm sure we'd look more fluid in attack and create more crosses & chances if our wingers swapped flanks occasionally.

But Chris is a bit stubborn in his thinking during a game and won't try something different to see if it might work.

Out or doubt or carrying injury or just going half-speed after return from injury or illness :
Sachdev , Seriki , Shackleton , Souttar , RND , Blaster , Souza , JRS , Moore , Campbell , Brewster (11)

Team :
Cooper , Alfie , Anel , Robbo , Burrows , Peck , Davies , Hamer , O'Hare , Brooks , Oneh (11)
Sub : Marsh , some pigeons

Please no challenges or tackles or quick sprints , coz there is no one on the bench today who has ever played a league game.

Orthopedic & plastic surgeons available behind the nets.
Nothing like avoiding the facts of “who has ever played a league game “ !

i we thought we played well 1st 30, last 30. & enough to take all 3pts with chances we created so it feels harsh to only have 1 point from the 2 home games. in a way i guess its dejavu i guess we felt relieved to get a point at the hawthorns few weeks ago & WBA will feel relieved to get a point today

but officals again how on earth have we not got a penalty. we had 3 shouts for the challenge on davies. the handball & challenge on Ohare

Sky sports comms can fck off as well, sucking off leeds 'sheff utd back to the top, albeit temporarily..'...just a minute you fucktards, Leeds have yet to play at Derby. Wankers

If you're writing us off from a top 2, who gets top 2 instead?
Burnley & Leeds.
As stated in the pre-match iv by CW there are clubs with stronger squads , one just above & one just below , and others below.
He's right.
Strength of squad comes into it now the injures start to bite.

Blackburn, Sunderland and Watford have all lost today.
Fingers crossed Derby County and Middlesbrough can keep the ball rolling later in the evening🤞

the success of salah and saka playing right wing when there left footed has started a trend im afraid the other thing i dont understand is why wilder doesnt switch brooks and hamer during a game for 20 minutes or so if nowt else it confuses the opposition full backs plus unless weve 2 dominant midfielders like we had with souza and arblaster this 4231 doesnt work for me incomings needed and a rethink on tactics please chris
