Berge unlucky to hit the post as well. We seem to have hit the woodwork a bit recently.

Anel and Khadra were fantastic and McAtee showed potential after our slow start.
In fairness Norwood was solid or even good and McBurnie was better than I expected.

Sunderland MoM was their goalie.

Exciting and frustrating game, but we won as we should even tho we gave one goofy goal away.

Thought Sunderland looked a good team. Kept their shape, and battled hard. Think they’ll come out with their heads held high, reminded me of us when we first came up.

We were no where near our best. But I don’t think they were going to get anything even before the red card.

Promising signs, think McAtee grew into the game, Khadra looks exciting coming off the bench and Anel was everywhere.

League So Far,
Watford (A) usual tepid away performance from United, L 1-0
Millwall (H) straightforward 2 - 0 win
Boro (A) took the lead twice, should have been 3pts D 2-2
Sunland (H) shaky start better after their red card, shaky finish, 2-1 win.
New players got to blend in, some niggling injuries, overall a better than average start, hopefully loans and new signings settle in and we should be up there.

Did just enough in the end.

Rather sloppy first half where they were probably more dangerous. The red card and goal straight after changed the game.

Started the second better then Egan gifted them a goal. We were more likely to get another but not much in it.

Foderingham - 6 - Think he made their goal too easy by rushing out but otherwise solid
Lowe - 6 - Better game for us, I thought, although needed to do a better job of stopping crosses. It was all coming down his side first half. Looked solid and much better going forward and got his first goal for the club.
RND - 6 - A good game but need to calm down sometimes. Tends to get carried away too often. Did well supporting going forward.
Egan -4 - Gifted them a way back into the game and then a mess afterwards for the next 5 minutes. Looked most liable to drop a bollock second half.
Anel - 7 - Good goal and and assist and gets forward well. Loses marks defensively as some slack moments and stupid fouls given away.
Baldock - 6 - Got forward really well first half but there was a terrible dive in there. Not as effective second half but kept at it.
McAtee - 5.5 - I thought he was fairly terrible most of the first half. Got better as it went on and good set pieces but there was very little of the defensive side of his job tonight. Early days though.
Norwood - 6.5 - Mixed. Much, much better corners. We could ahve scored from every one. Slack and sloppy with the ball too often but looked likely to set something up.
Berge - 6.5 - Made a few great runs going forward but once again sloppy under pressure and poor in the tackle. He's so slow to move the ball on at times and gets caught. Needs to me much better in his all-round game.
Ndiaye - 6 - Mixed first half. Made a good run and drew the red card but too often made the wrong decision and didn't hold the ball up. Got better through the game.
Brewster - 6.5 - Put in a lot of work and forced the mistake for the red card. He's one of those players who just improves with games

Subs

Fleck - 6 - Solid when he came on. they noticeably struggled to get through the midfield much more after the substitution.
Khadra - 7.5 - Looked lively when he game on and is very direct. Likes a dribble and did a great job of winning us free kicks upfield
McBurnie 7.5 - Similar but used his bulk well and didn't really put a foot wrong. Unlucky not to score but that was so much better.

Hecky - 7.5 - First half was very messy but he has to take credit for the substitutions. Fans complain about this but all 3 were spot on. When it looked like we were under the cosh, he changed it and brought it back under our control

Sunderland - I thought they were really good going forward first half. Clarke, Gouch, Stewart and Simms all looked direct, pacey and dangerous. I was relieved when Neil got sent off. Their keeper though looked brilliant. MOM by a long way for me. They'll do well this season. Avoid major injuries and they'll push the play-offs.

I was pretty worried when Fleck came on, nearly turned it off when McBurnie came on, but to be fair they were both solid. We really needed energy so at least Khadra was brought on to compensate, and he was brilliant.

Brewster very unlucky to come off, he worked his bollocks off and I felt a goal was coming. Maybe the sub was to keep him fresh after getting a knock a few days ago.

Berge and Anel are different gravy. While Baldock has deserved his spot, I desperately want to see Anel Bogle and Berge working together.

On the other side Lowe was great and RND didn't do much wrong. But we are STILL vulnerable to a few quick passes down the middle.

You have McBurnie as MOM???

Try again with you marks out of ten for almost everyone and we will pretend we never saw this one 🤣

Sunderland looked what they are. A well managed bunch of cloggers, couple of big blokes up front one playmaker and a midfield and defence dedicated to the art of fouling. o’Nein’s foul on McAtee was awful, clear straight red card, could have trashed his career before it’s even started.

Good win.. fair play to Sunderland, they made it hard for us, and look like they'll be top half, their Keeper impressed. .. gifted them the goal though... Anel and Berge class, Khadra off the bench did well.
Cut out the sloppy bits, and we'll be up there for sure.

Not a good performance

One positive: Khadra

That game in isolation doesn't annoy me - Sunderland did well with 10 and the goal was quite a random, can be scored any time in a game type

What annoys me is how it represents a longer term theme - this god awful habit of making home games tighter than they need to be. We find a way.

Really need to break free of the habit

Go on then. Explain to me what marks you're giving the worse team for the first half until the red card and then the one who struggled to put the 10 men or promoted Sunderland away?

9s and 10s? 🥱

Overall an entertaining but frustrating game.

First 30 mins we gave them far too much of the ball. We clearly identified the Sunderland left hand side as the weak point but Norwood overused the diagonal to Baldock and our overall passing was really sloppy.

Thought Sunderland were well organised and riding the promotion crest without being anything spectacular. They are high in confidence too having not lost for over 150 days. Can’t see them being anything above mid table at best come the end of the season though.

We should really have put them to bed after the sending off. Superbly worked second goal before a dreadful pass by Egan let them back into it.

Still should have buried them tho, it was mentioned in the shoutbox but we are experts at hitting defenders with our shots and are still guilty of overworking the ball.

Khadra looked good when he came on, Fleck was decent as well to be fair to him. Anel is already a cult hero and he will cost someone a lot of money In the future.

That should have been so much more, we totally put pressure on ourselves with that f up, some good performances though these, Anel, Norwood,

that’s was despicable, terrible terrible career ending challenge….

You have given two subs higher marks than Anel 8.5 and Berge a solid 8 and match stats showed we were dominant over all on the match , Sunderland played well no denying

Couple of really poor ones, thought that was a red real time and there was an awful one on Khadra too.

New faces had a big impact tonight.

Loved the way Khadra chased down every apparent lost cause - he strikes me as a player who could make things happen for us this season.

A few slip ups but MacAtee seems an upgrade on Fleck.

Anel was intense and penetrative.

very nice. Sunderland coming out all guns blazing. looking nothing like the team that couldnt be arsed v 🦉 in league cup had worried me. espically with berge playing far deeper than usual credit to Sunderland at 2-1 they made it tough than we shouldve made it

but on the whole 1st 60 mins was Brilliant, we were actually a threat a set pieces which is highly unusual. some nice movement & that through ball from Norwood was outstanding & good timing as i just defending him. saying you have forgive his mistakes for magic he produces. & he produced said magic. Khadra was nice cameo, looked like menace he was in the 2 games v us last yr

defensively rarely troubled. i had my worries as until that red. i had Sunday dejavu with horrendous officiating. but they woke up thankfully after 30 mins. 4th in the league. couldve been top if we had held out

It usually is.
