Frustrating night, pretty much a blueprint away performance from QPR.
Against counter attacking teams, we really struggle if we don't get the first goal. The first half was our chance to win this game.
There are a few concerns as we go into 2 winnable games followed by a tough run:
Anel's absence is hurting us so much. It's being compounded by Basham being waaay off his own standards. With Baldock taking a heavy knock and Basham struggling with what looked his left groin/knee, I've absolutely no idea what the backline will be at Stoke.
Ndiaye and Berge have had two poor games, by their standards, since the international break. A rest, a refresh, change things up...whatever you want to call it, they shouldn't have played 180 mins each.
Doyle is becoming an easy option to hook and tonight is third time it's had the opposite effect. PNE away we were awful without him, and we dropped 2 gears in these last 2 home games after he went off. PH isn't daft, Berge was noticeably out of steam on Saturday and both Berge and Norwood were levels below Doyle tonight...are we avoiding subbing them in favour of a loan player so it doesn't hurt their confidence? Others have mentioned he's not fit, really? He started 3 in a row before the PNE experiment and was buzzing for the U21s.
Sharp and Brewster have made 2 poor contributions off the bench this week. We need someone to step up, McBurnie isn't going to keep this purple patch going forever and he's not going to play 90 every week either. Sharp is coming back to fitness, but I'm worried about Brewster.
The substitutions, in general, are also hurting us. There's confusion about where to play Khadra and McAtee, and who to play them with. We look disjointed no matter who comes on, when they come and who they come on for.
We've been on a great run and got some deserved results. There's now a chasing pack trying to suck us in and we need to be wiser to avoid that happening. Players coming back will help but subs need to be much better.
