If Wilder doesn’t give a shit about Cup games then pull out of the Cup beforehand. Why should fans pay hard earned money to watch turgid crap like tonight? It’s not the first time with him.
Bit harsh, injuries and squad depth killed us for this game. Coming so soon after the crazy Xmas and New year fixtures didn't help either.
At least it showed Marsh and possibly One need loans.

Why take Gilchrist off in 89th minute? I can’t understand that. I can’t ever remember any of Wilders substitutions changing a game?

What planet are you on that you think we have any chance this season of lifting the FA cup. Past seasons yeah I agree, but the squad is paper thin as is, and promotion is obviously the goal this season.

We can start taking the cup seriously when we have the finances/squad to do so ;)
Loving the when not if!!

disappointing to be out of the fa cup. it was probably a 4/10 performance, Cardiff werent much better & RND howler might be the headline. as that did lead to goal thats knocked us out but I feel the strikers cost us today. we shouldve scored 1 at least, we got into dangerous positions. stats say we had 16 shots & 7 on target. but shots we had at the Goalkeeper were so tame. 1 bit of pace wouldve gone in

& if there is a positive. no distractions might be what we need. only the FA could try to kill their own competition. looking to FA doing the usual overreacting to our sparse crowd "whats wrong with the FA Cup " & come to every conclusion apart keeping them on a saturday

Wilder's subs could not have made it any more obvious to anyone with half a clue that he wanted to lose. We were hopeless yet of all players, he keeps Hamer and O'Hare on the bench!

It was all exactly as predicted, where you can't even get a proper look at individuals because they're part of something dysfunctional. We've seen Oné look better in league games for example.... not to mention Brooks

It was a disaster night for RND. He needs to be asking for a loan now because between the mistake and the injury, he's ensured his season with us is over - he won't be used for anything other than 5 mins off the bench

That’s the same for both teams

Best bit of tonight was getting home in one piece and the bovril.

Baptise and Blacker both looked tidy enough, which is encouraging if we need to dip into the reserves again for those positions. The rest of the young lads were just ok.

Brewster back to his erratic best.

Brooks played like he was pissed.

RND, deary me. But I hope the lad is ok.

I will. Not one of us will ever see us win the PL but we might win a FA Cup, but we won't with the kind of attitude we show towards the competition.

Football shd be about winning things not just trying to boost the bank balance
in the PL
No we won’t win an fa cup we might make a semi maybe even a final - more chance if we are an established premiership team

I think tonight was the best possible advert for Wilder if he needed to prove we needed more bodies.

With the exception of the young CB … I thought all the others were miles off bless them.

I was also surprised by the lack of urgency from our more senior / first team players.

A nothing match that wilder could have stayed home for as no one gave him a selection headache tonight

I'm disappointed in some of our fans attitudes treating this cup like a non-event while bumming getting to PL so bad.

I'm disappointed in it will be 101+ years now (we were probably not going to win it this year regardless). But this match was treated as if it was some mid-season friendly and not a competitive fixture. The club really should have got the fans excited for the FA Cup this season, especially against Cardiff (the team we last beat in an FA Cup Final) but no. The FA Cup magic has gone, Football is a walking zombie.
The romance of the cup went years ago and last season the FA put the final nail in its coffin
No replays games being played at stupid times on stupid days
I couldn’t care less about it now a completely devalued competition-

Was about to say, as poor as Marsh looked, he still looked better than our £23m star signing..
I think Marsh would have done better if this hadn't been his first minutes since August. He was ok, one of very few who tried to get the ball under control and do something with it and he had a couple of efforts. Should have been used more, but our passing was so poor we struggled to get into the last third.

We were crying out for one of the senior lads to do something, but Brewster ditched that responsibility and passed it backwards most of the time. Everything went wrong for him the last 15 mins of the first half. It didn't help that he was up against a youngster who got injured and couldn't run.

I saw a few commenting that our line up was stronger than expected. Maybe on paper, but I saw it as an unbalanced side, where I didn't know who was going to take responsibility and pull the strings for us. Starting from the back, Gilchrist and RND have some experience, but both are mediocre on the ball, partly because both are not playing in their favoured positioned. They may be ok in a team where things are settled and working, but we needed the experienced lads to be able to put their foot on the ball and calm things down. Which is probably what captain RND tried, but it was the wrong occasion.

Burrows is a ball player and was picked out to be our playmaker in midfield. It was a big ask with so many young players and such a patched up side. Cardiff had the experienced Joe Ralls in that role and his experience showed. Brooks was probably expected to play a key role, but there are so fine margins with him being successful at the things he tries. He'll do brilliant things, but tonight was an off night for him.

Blacker improved as the game went on.

People may look at this game as proof the youngsters are not ready. I hope we keep faith in them and take more opportunities to make them ready.

Man U did in 1999!
Well if we ever get invited to play in the FIFA International Club World Cup and the Govt suggests that if we don't take part in it, the countries World Cup bid may be under threat
"Manager Sir Alex Ferguson, chief executive Martin Edwards and The FA's interim executive director, David Davies, attempted to justify the decision by painting it as imperative for England's hopes of hosting the 2006 World Cup.

Ferguson and Edwards claimed they were left with little choice after the Government and FA explained the risk of United's absence from the inaugural tournament in Brazil thwarting the World Cup bid.

"No one wants to see them not get it. I dare not think of the criticism we would have received if we had refused. That was unthinkable - and that's a Scotsman talking," Ferguson said.

Davies not much could do? It's a 1v1, he's not a world class keeper. Always been a no2 for a reason. Not much to blame, shouldn't have got there was a disgrace from RND.
Yep, if RND doesnt have a mare (like a few who didnt get punished), Davies doesnt have a save to make.

Having said that, from the tv camera angle, it did look like Davies did get his positioning slightly out, as i thought he didnt come across enough and cover the what was near post.

Oh I know all about it, but you stated that you could not pull out of the fa cup, I merely provided evidence to the contrary.

Bit of a let down all round really.

We looked like a team who had never played together, which we hadn't. 6,000 fans looked disinterested and bloody cold. Clearly little effort to go on and win it really, the subs told the story.

A few odd things in the starting line-up. Why on earth did he start Burrows? Lad needed a rest and we have Boyes, who has League 1 experience on the bench, I get the feeling Wilder doesn't trust Boyes! The youngsters really looked their age. Some really need loans. Being chucked in isn't doing some of them any favours. I wasn't entirely sure where everyone was meant to be playing, at times! Neither were they!

Davies - 5 - Some standard saves and a rather odd bit of anger near the end.
McCallum - 5 - Tried to drive forward. Had one great cross from the byline but looked sloppy
RND - 3 - Injured again but he looks shot. His error gave the goal away and he was slow, sloppy and indecisive all evening.
Baptiste - 4 - Almost scored an own goal and again not very good for the most part. This is above his current level. Needs a loan.
Gilchrist - 5 - Shame we had to start him as another who shouldn't be playing. Did ok but not great.
Blacker - 4 - Lightweight, that much is obvious, and wrestled quite a bit. Looked lively but snatched at things. Loan needed.
Brookes - 4- One of those night for him. Had a mare first half but kept going. nothing much worked for him though.
Burrows - 6 - Shouldn't have been on the pitch really but had by far and away our best moment with a lovely shot on his wrong foot.Playing out of position though, so was always a bit of a struggle.
Marsh - 5 - Looks neat and tidy at times but his final ball was poor. Needs a good loan with regular starts.
Brewster - 6 - Looked to make things happen and had a number of shots and decent passes. Often wasteful but one of the brighter players
One - 6 - Put himself around and tried to make things happen. Good and bad but another who needs regular men's football.

Subs:

Robinson - 5 - Largely ineffective

All in all a waste of everyone's time.

Tonight tells you that come next season we need to clear brewster off, rnd off, one needs a loan this season. And we need to add quality in depth
Awful angles, watch it back pal.
Undoubtedly RND was dreadful, but a keeper is supposed to still make it as difficult as possible. Davies pretty much gave him half the net to roll it into.
Admittedly it was on my phone whilst trying to get my young un ready for bed.

So I may have jumped the gun on it, not seen it back yet though.

Best bit of tonight was getting home in one piece and the bovril.

Just walked it back as there were no buses anywhere near for an hour and a half, getting past Heeley and back to the proper ice for the last uphill bits was more enjoyable than sitting on John Street :)

Makes me think back to the 3rd round against Barnet in 2019. Same blame game about fringe players. I love Wilder but fuck me, his ego never let's him admit he perhaps got it wrong. No cohesion at all tonight. He picked the team!

Davies made 2 great saves, 1 in each half.We could have been a goal down in the first few minutes if it wasn't for him. Took a couple of crosses as well.
Not his fault we lost.

Best thing for young Marsh would be a loan to a lower league team, this needs to happen now.
Same with One but can we afford to lose him?

Baptiste looks useful. He was reading the danger fairly well and passed well. Burrows and Gilchrist did put in a shift. I know we all would like a bit more from Gilchrist going forward but defensively he is sound. Burrows in a new position showed he wanted the ball and brought a level of control.

Marsh and Blacker need to physically develop more. Marsh was more clever in the second half as he defended the ball and earned a few free kicks.

RNDs lack of touch and urgency was clear. He needs games to get up to speed but needs to be better than tonight.

Brooks was physically at the game but mentally his mind was not on the job. At least 4 major howlers due to not being tuned in.

Brewster was someway involved but didn't have any impact on the game.

One is a difficult one. At times he was ignored by team mates. And when he did get the ball he wasn't consistent. He gets into a bit of a panic in the box as players look to close him down. Going on loan is probably the best for him.

Let's be honest, I'm not entirely sure they'd all get league loans let alone above League 1. I think One is the only one who looks league 1 ready. Marsh seems to be treading water or has gone backwards. He hardly tore it up at Donnie last season and not sure he'd do any better now. He's 21 this year but looks about 16!

Baptiste and Blacker are likely to go to the National League for experience.

Boyes has seemingly had it.

I thought Hampson would start, so that's another slightly odd one.
