That's funny that, because I did once work out that our average league position from 1-92 since1889 was 19th, which is not far off really. I suppose it shows that we are capable, with a bit of good management on and off the field, of holding our own in the top flight (just).

Why can't we get a link to the site?!

That's not me having a pop by the way, just curious like ;)

If it's the same poster of 365 fame, it's most likely got lots of Anti-Islam sentiment on there!

Sorry THFC, only jesting. I'm assuming you are the very same THFC though yes?

Intersting where Man u are?

Take away the plane crash and were they really that big before the sympathy kicked in cus a lot of those points must have been amassed under Fergie

Two of those 25 teams are likely to be below the second tier next season. Brings a tear to the eye.

Do Sky allow tables like that, it's almost as if football existed before they did.
That's one of my major irritants with Sky (there's a few to be fair) but it really is as if they believe that nothing pre-Premiership bears any relevance anymore. Football began in 1992 according to the majority of their stats.

The powers that be on this site don't like it.

But I suppose if you send me a PM, they won't object to me giving you the link.

Guilty as charged, Houso but there's no Anti-Islam sentiment on that page or any of the other 6,000+ pages on my site.

In fact, I go into the Arab & Islamic country's National Leagues in some detail.

The powers that be on this site don't like you spamming the board with the link every time you post.

I'm sure that if 90% of your posts were non-stat related and didn`t require a link to your site it wouldn`t be an issue. The problem is almost all of your posts could (with some justification in your eyes) have used the link.

Has it been adjusted for three points for a win or is it purely based on number of points gained at the time, in which case it would be biased towards points gained in the last 25 years (of which we have spent very little time in the top flight).

No, it's simply the points as awarded at the time.

But you do make an interesting point (no pun intended), so here's how the table would look at three points for a win from 1888-89 onwards...

...Sheffield United move up four places to 17th out of the 64 clubs who have participated in the Top Flight from 1888-89 onwards.

What happens if you remove the effect of the change from 2 to 3 points for a win, and instead count all wins as 3 points and draws prior to the change to 3 points as 1.5 points and draws since as 1 point, thus reflecting the weighting of the points available to the team at the time.

i.e. a draw in 1975 was worth 50% of a win, but only 33.3% of a win nowadays.

You arrive at the conclusion that life is too short.

That's one of my major irritants with Sky (there's a few to be fair) but it really is as if they believe that nothing pre-Premiership bears any relevance anymore. Football began in 1992 according to the majority of their stats.

I'm sure I'm not the first but there's only one response to that....

What'chu talkin' 'bout, Willis?!

:D

Yes, it annoys me a lot too. Nothing really happened in 1992 except the top division was renamed, yet we are constantly bombarded with stats related to goalscoring feats, winning runs etc that ignore the 100 years of football before 1992.

It's disrespectful to ignore the teams and players that created records before the top flight was rebranded. The reason they do it, I suppose, is a) stats from 1992 are easier to assemble than stats from 1890 or whenever, and b) More "records" can be claimed to be broken, this giving more games "historic importance".

Of course, if a major "top flight" record is ever broken, they don't shy away from letting you know that too.
