Sheffield derby First, Worst and Best

2008 and 2012 at Swillsborough were both 1-0 defeats

2012 was insipid, couldn’t handle a physical pigs side playing a game more akin to rugby union than association football.

2008 we were cheated to an extent. Kilgallon got a ridiculous sending off early doors for a high foot and we spent the rest of the game soaking up pressure until the goal came.
In 2008, Watson's goal came not long after Kilgallon's harsh red. As was par for the course under Kevin Hoofwell, however, we did absolutely nothing to turn the game around.

I also had no recollection of them being given a penalty which Kenny saved.

First: Wembley
Worst: Wembley. Although the 2-0 defeat in 2002 runs it close, as it was on my 18th Birthday.
Best: Brownie's derby in 2003, how the game panned out, the atmosphere, in the context of the season. And then obviously that goal, still my favourite ever seen live

First: the first game after their relegation from the Prem. League Cup. 2-1 defeat. Ekoku.

Worst: The 2-0 battering at the sty under Warnock. The most one sided derby by a mile and we somehow contrived to lose it 2-0. It was most memorable for Asaba's apology in the Star after he alone missed a handful of golden chances and an inspire performance from a young Tonge.

Best: Can only be the 3-1 Brown game (should've been 8-1) or Bouncing day. The most goals ever scored by the away side.

First - Blades 1-0 Pigs, Alan Quinn winner
Worst - 2-1 in 09 when they did double or the 0-0 at the sty in 2019, most boring game of football I've ever been to
Best - 4-2, even if I did miss our first 2 goals thanks to our glorious local police force!

First 2 2 @ the sty Birchinall got both 64 ish
Best any where we won
All the losses ,living in s6 in a Wendy family, going to school in s6 was not pleasant
Birchenall scored a brace at S6 twice, 2-0 win in Sept 1964, we wore all white the and 2-2 draw was in March 1966 (photos below)

What a left peg Hodges had. One of my all time favourite players.
100%. Saw him make his debut at City on loan, and he looked a different class. Scored some great goals - Derby (so important) Forest (Clough's last home game) Man Utd (fa cup). He had a ruthless streak too - just ask Armstrong from Roker Park.

Must have been 66 at the pig farm , I remember we were in red and white ,with a equaliser celebrated in front of me .

Only 2. Years out can't remember what happened last month.

Fantham scored first, Birchenall equaliser at Leppings Lane End, put us ahead at Kop End, Eustace equalised

First: Tony Kenworthy testimonial (or ZDS for a "real" match)
Worst: Wembley
Best: Toss up between Nov '91 and March '92. Both have their own merits.

Honourable mention: 1 April 2001. When they won in the cup earlier in the season a neighbour came home and set off fireworks. So when we won in the league we drove around Sheffield to find fireworks (not easy in April!). We found some, went home, and sat in a front garden drinking champagne and firing off fireworks. Some might say childish...

First and worst - 0-4 defeat in 79.

Best - 3-1 win at the Sty

First one I remember was us winning 2-0 at the lane when Whitehouse and Deano scored.

Worst was the fa cup semi when Waddle scored.

Best was bouncing day.

First - ZDS Cup
Worst - I've never actually see us Lose or even draw a Derby in the flesh, apart from the ZDS one so will have to say that.
Best - Bobby Davison night, (to be eclipsed by Patrick Bamford Sunday this weekend.... 🤣 )

Some might say childish, but credit to you for showing determined Yorkshire bastardness.

First was the 2-0 win in 1991 where we bullied a supposedly superior set of players off the park.
Worst was probably any of the 0-0 heavy defeats around 2018 when we should have had a hatful in each game but couldn't seem to score.
Best was March 11 1992 where my dad managed to get us 2 tickets on their Kop from a second hand/charity shop. it was amazing to watch the pockets of Blades fans all over the home end celebrating each goal before brawling with their lot second later.
I was 11 at the time and it was a fair bit intimidating being surrounded by their fans who knew we were Blades. Especially after the third one went in and I was brave enough to give a bit of a cheer. Did get a few clips around the back of the head as we left 🤣🤣Didn't care as it was the perfect early birthday present.

Boxing Day for the first two with the semi not far behind.
Difficult to choose between home and away in 91/92. Both exorcised the ghosts of 79.
Not a favourite but the strangely 'happiest' I've felt after losing was the 2002 2-0 at the sty when we played really well and you sensed we were onto something. Which we were.

First one I went to was the one Mick Hill scored. Blades on middle of Kop from top to middle Kop walkway.
1 - 1 draw january 68 most blades ive ever seen on the east bank that day had to have been 4/5k great run by willie carlin at leppings lane end for mick hills equaliser

First ZDS 3-2 defeat

Worse Wembley

Best 3-1 March 92

I do feel we have had some proper opportunities to give them a right hiding down the years while they've been shit and never taken it 2000-2003 in particular, then being 3 up in 08 and not putting em to bed

Pig player Johnny Quinns testimonial at the Sty, about 1972. About 3 times the number of Blades than Pigs there. Walked back to town with my ex girlfriends nephew on shoulders. Ted Bear and his cronies on the other side of Penistone Rd giving it big until they noticed mob of Blades coming towards them. Think Ted had bit parts in Last Of The Summer Wine, stage name Tubby Johnson.

Did he later make a cine-film of himself pleading for help from Prince Charles during the original Save Our Owls campaign?
