Sheffield derby First, Worst and Best

First:
United 1-1 Pigs (Hodges & Palmer) - October 1993

Worst:
United 1-2 Pigs (Lupoli - Spurr & Tudgay) - the only time that many of us have seen us lose at Bramall Lane. Certainly the only time most living have seen them double us.

Best:
Pigs 2-4 United (Hooper, Joao - Fleck, Clarke 2 & Duffy) - September 2017.... this game could and should have been so much better

Sunday will be the first time i haven't attended an Hillsborough away since 2000 and only the second Sheffield derby i've missed in that time. The other being United 3-2 Pigs - September 2009... another massive opportunity missed.

Boxing Day
Boxing Day
Bobby Davison Day

Exactly the same for me.

My last one a the Sty was a 0-1 where Chris O’Grady bagged the only goal. We were beige on that occasion, insipid, meek, and weak. Was that 2008?
Silent Blade ??

Not been able to get to any since due to the reduced allocation and not getting lucky in the ballot.

Ken Jnr and I did make the long trip to Sheff for Bouncing Day and watched it in The Clubhouse on London Road. That was still very special.

First: Boxing Day 1979 - the first time in my life I was more excited for December 26th as opposed to the 25th.
Worst: Boxing Day 1979 - as we shuffled quietly out at the final whistle, one Blade summed up our gallows humour when saying to his mate: "We've had to watch that rubbish, and then we've got our Auntie Ida coming 'round this afternoon!"
Best: Bobby Davison - it rained apparently; I never noticed.
Same for me, without the Auntie Ida.

What rain?

First one I went to was the one Mick Hill scored. Blades on middle of Kop from top to middle Kop walkway.

First was a 0-0 at the Sty in 2001. Riveting stuff.

Worst for me was (and it sounds daft given the loses I've been there for) the 2-2 at Bramall Lane in League One. Those two late goals hit me like a truck, even worse that it was that shithouse that got the equaliser (that later somewhat redeemed himself).

Best I was at was definitely the 4-2, was incredibly concerned seeing the team sheet that day, walked down Penistone Road and avoided the tram, luckily, so we saw the whole game. Some dirty bastard spat at my dad on the way to the ground. When Fleck's free kick went in I've not seen my dad react like that to any goal ever. The most I've ever enjoyed a result, no doubt. Honourable mention to the 3-1 at home with Brownie's incredible volley.

First: The 2-0 win at the Lane in 91
Worst: Wembley
Best: The 3-1 win under the lights with Warnock, Michael Brown wonder goal et al

First the 2-2 home draw in league 1, 2011.

Worst the 0-1 away defeat the same season, pint chucked at us from the home end when they scored.

Best bouncing day.

As a fully committed part timer, I've not seen us play at the Begbies Treynor@Estadio della Rust. I am also in the odd position that I've only seen them beat us once (1-0 away, ludicrous red card to Kilgallon and a winner from Watson) but that was on TV so I'm discounting it. I'm also discounting their 0-0 wins under Wilder v1 because while they may have won, we didn't lose.

First:
United 1 (Ford) Yesterday FC 1 (Hendon), December 2000. I can't remember anything about this other than the penalty from Ford being smashed in at the Kop end and Hendon's free kick dribbling apologetically in after a ludicrous deflection.

Worst:
United 0 Yesterday FC 0, October 2001. As far as I can remember, almost exactly nothing happened

Best
United 3 Yesterday FC 1, January 2003. Pressman's heroics followed by Quinn's goal meant I thought they'd undeservedly beat us. Then Kabba bundled one in before Michael Brown had that moment. Chief's goal was the icing on the cake. Friday nights under the lights will never be better than that.

I could have written that, had I had an Auntie Ida.

To be 100% correct, I think I went to a County Cup game at the pig around 77/78 ish, but Boxing day was my first proper derby.

First was the 2-0 home win in 1991 when Deano megged Woods.

Worst (by an absolute country mile) was the semi final defeat. We were so outclassed it could've been a cricket score but for Kelly.

If I had to absolutely nail my colours to the mast for best it would be the 3-1 when Lord Brown scored the wonder goal. Bit like a reverse of the above in that we were so far superior on the night it was unreal and would have absolutely tonked them if not for Pressman.

Good thread this.

First: 1992, 1-1. Couldn’t tell you a thing about the match.
Worst: losing at Wembley was absolutely devastating for me a youngster. The loss in League 1 in 2012 felt ominous to me as well. I don’t think people minded too much with our league position, but that went fucking south.
Best: would have bouncing day if I was there, which winds me up to this day that I wasn’t, but I’m going to say Michael Brown day. What a volley.

First was at the sty in 1967, I think we drew 1 1.
Worst was again at the sty boxing day
Best again at the sty Bouncing Day.

Be really interested to know your First Sheffield derby match, the Worst one you can remember and most importantly THE BEST!

Myself and Roygbiv have also shared ours if you'd like to see

First, 3-2 1970.
Worst, obviously Boxing Day.
Best, possibly the Bobby Davison 3-1at the sty. My first time season double over them.

first wednesday 2 united 2 march 66 worst boxing day 79 best united 3 wednesday 1 cant remember date browny's wonder strike

2008 and 2012 at Swillsborough were both 1-0 defeats

2012 was insipid, couldn’t handle a physical pigs side playing a game more akin to rugby union than association football.

2008 we were cheated to an extent. Kilgallon got a ridiculous sending off early doors for a high foot and we spent the rest of the game soaking up pressure until the goal came.

First...the 1-1 after boxing day ...last the 1-0 last season.....best....without a doubt 3-1 Bobby Bobby Bobby Davison!!!! Blades all over the pig sty....loved the walk back to town nearly as much as the full day session and mass walk to pig-land....happy days indeed. Had more ups than downs against these tossers ....Dad had it right. Fuck em.

Ah Watson scored the winner in 2008 so the Chris O’Grady game would have been 2012, then

First, Wembley, just circumstance that despite being an old git I never made a derby before then.

Worst, Wembley or anything to do with Bryan "it's just another Game" Robson.

Best, Browny night, Quinny made us doubt before we destroyed them. Best goal ever scored in a steel city derby.
