Shea Charles

I'm already imagining the gloating being wildly disproportionate to the achievement. It'll be as if they've done the double over us, repeated boxing day and pipped us to promotion in the playoffs all in one go.

"Dint get Charles tho, did ya?!"
Never has a meme been more perfect for their set of fans than this one: IMG_9107.webp

Hard decision for Charles, his preference is probably to stay at Wednesday. His brother is there & he’ll have bonded with the squad so far plus the fans love him.

The alternative option is to join a team chasing down automatic promotion.

It might not be his decision as I presume Southampton just want as much money as they possibly can, but I don’t wonder what he’d prefer to do.

I can’t say I’ll be devastated if we don’t get him. There’s alternatives out there

I might be in minority but im sat laughing if they are having to pay more money for this kid who would only get in our starting line up due to rotation or injury

Didn’t Chancer say something about this kid maybe not being as good as some think and now he is paying more just to appease fans

If the extent of his ambition is a lower mid-table club like Wednesday then they’re welcome to him. Thought he’d want to test himself with the better players in the Division, maybe he’s not got the bottle for a promotion race?

Guaranteed game time at pigs which is the prime aim of a loan at his age which would also be of most benefit to Southampton for next season.

I think the most important aspect will be whether or not he likes to play for Rohl. If Rohl tells him that he sees him as a key player and the system and playing style suits him, it'll be tough to convince him to come here to be a rotation player.

I think one of the major aspects that the lad might be taking into consideration is that if he likes working with Sausage Roll and there is talk of SR taking over at Southampton in the summer at Saints, there is a very good chance that both would be checking out of Hillsborough in May and then reuniting again in July. Just a shame for the piggies that it will probably be down at the south coast.

I don’t see him as a rotation. Him and Vini would mop everything up. Would allow us to rest players but they would be my starting two and the front 4 could do what they like

Can we just close this thread and move on.
He'll stay at Wednesday, he is settled there knows everybody and plays every week, add to the fact it would take a massive set of balls to join their main rivals.
Just hope Wilder hasn't put all his eggs in the Charles basket, especially when it was never likely to happen because we desperately need at least one midfielder.

Eggs are in separate baskets, don’t worry

Well no because what you've just posted is just your opinion
A miserable, negative opinion that not everyone else shares
He might stay at Southampton, he might come to us and he might go back to swillsborough

I don't think we'd be making bids if we hadn't received any encouragement from his camp, we know Wilder is a good pal of his Agent's so he has a direct line into Shea Charles.

I wouldn't rule us out completely on the grounds that his brother is at Wednesday and he's been there half a season.
If he's ambitious, he might want to put himself into a promotion battle and play with better players.

However, one major complicating factor is if Röhl is Southampton bound in the Summer.
He may have more influence on the deal than what's obvious.

If his 3 options are Southampton,
Wednesday or United I wonder where he’d win more games in the next 4/5 months

He’s playing his last game of the grace period tonight, so I guess he’s been focussed on that.

Wednesday will also want to get it all resolved so that they can plan for their next game with or without him… if it’s not resolved they will play away at QPR in front of 8,000 disgruntled Wednesday fans without him.

It might also be a good chance for us to get a player that could go straight into Fridays squad…

As I said i don’t think this is dependent on any other deal we have in progress for other players falling through.

Not actually sure that is the biggest concern if it’s just a straight loan for the half season…

Not for me, you start Vini and one of Peck/Davies or ideally you move Hamer in or you get another CM player

You don’t need to be playing two deep mop it up players

Returning to Wednesday would be good for continuity and so arguably his development.

But he should consider that two of their starting line up (Marvin Johnson and Max Lowe) are two of the worst players we've had in the last 8 years.

If he comes to us he MIGHT be involved in a promotion and maybe earn a permanent move (possible) to a Prem side that want to play him (possibly). Or he could go back to Southampton in the Championship, again.

He and Vini could be a good combination for next season should we get it over the line.

This season I’m looking forward to seeing Vini next to Davies.

If we were to play Vini and Charles together we’d need to keep the front 4 higher up, play Seriki and and allow him and Burrows a lot of freedom to get forwards.

He’s got the opportunity to play for a side challenging for the title and to carve out a move to the Premier League next season (either with us or another club).

If he’d pass that up for being a big fish in a small pond at Wednesday, can’t deal with the indignation of their fans, or is so attached to Rohl that he can’t leave his side then arguably he doesn’t have the required mentality anyway.

Completely agree to this, it’s not a winners mentally

Can see it now in Charles post match interview:

RS Great performance tonight Shea. What do you make to the standing ovation you received at the end?
SC Yeah, the fans in Sheffield are very passionate, I'm looking forward to playing in front of them.
RS Does that mean you are coming back to Wednesday then?
SC You clearly didn't understand what I said. I'm off for a quick shower and a sausage roll before my 11pm medical at Bramall Lane.
RS Wow, any final message for the adoring Hillsborough crowd?
SC Fuck you scrubbers, I'm off to ride the Blades train and play for a proper football club.

Exactly if he's got anything about him he won't care one bit about moving Accross the city if he feels it's the best move for his career

Maybe we should tap up his younger brother as well? We need another keeper in f Davies is in his way, he can challenge Faxon for the U/23 spot
