Sharp

It’s all well and good mocking but what’s your alternatives ?? You have to have players on bench so what ?? Are you going to laughingly argue that Jebbo/Brewster/Osula are better options for 10 mins per game just because they are already here ??

Or are you buying strikers from Championship for 10 million to go and score 6 goals all season ??

If I was arguing to keep Billy and start him then fine, but I’m not

I’m arguing to keep for one spot on a crowded bench

Nope - out of the current strikers I'd only keep Ndiaye and McB's for next season. I'd release Sharp and get Osula and Brewster out on loan. Jebbison I'm not sure about. Ideally, he'd benefit from a loan at a decent Champ side until at least Jan to get some games.
Depending on the actual budget (including what I'd save on cheerleaders and gym instructors), I'd consider moves for Gyokeres, Piroe, Stewart (if fit), Delap (if available to buy), Archer and Diallo - and that's from just the Champ.
I assume Mitch & co are exploring options further afield - a potential long shot would be Sydney van Hooijdonk who appears to have inherited his dad's scoring ability (and hopefully not his dodgy attitude).
All would contribute more than Sharp.

This may sound harsh- Typical athlete. Refuses to accept they cant do it at the required level. He shouldn’t need telling he had to go, he should know and shouldve announced he was leaving/ or retiring a couple of weeks ago. Shame on the club for dragging this on, they should’ve told him before end of the season- the 1 player who they needed to handle with care and sensitivity. Why ? Because he was a fan, a ballboy, a player 3 times over and club captain and record scorer.
Deserved to be treated with RESPECT. Deserved to say goodbye. The club handled this appallingy.

SvH has already been snaffled by Bologna and is only on loan in Holland.

More chance of you becoming president of USA than achieving those signings and Gyokeres and Piroe could play every game from start and would possibly score as many in entire season as Billy from bench

I was reading about him earlier - he does indeed belong to Bologna but has hardly featured for them and has been loaned back to Heerenveen where he's been prolific. A good age, big and physical and knows where the goal is. I'll keep an eye out for where he goes and how he does

Player Suggestion Sydney van Hooijdonk

Gutted that this time has come. But this is nothing against Billy, he will have been paid very well during his career and will be worth a few million. He’s earned it through hard work and dedication. He would never have to work again if he so wished. He’s had terrible tragedy in his family life and I wish him and his family a long and healthy life. I just don’t want him to leave us on a low and with bad feeling in the air. He is and always will be adored by Blades fans.

Great time for him to leave after helping us secure promotion. I reckon dropping to Donnie would be a way to end bagging a few.

On my doorstep too so would definitely go down to watch Donny if Sharp was leading the line!

But true though, just putting a random list of players you like doesn’t equal we sign them

Whereas my point was simple, one space on a bench with a guy we give a cheap year too which would likely be cheaper than any option you suggested
If that's your aim, I could get you a traffic cone to sit on the bench for £50 - it would score the same number of goals as Sharp next season. Burning money on players that will be ineffective is surely just a waste.
You asked for alternatives to Sharp and I named some - all of which I would be very confident would contribute more than Sharp had he been offered an extension. If you don't like them, then fair enough.

I’d suspected before Sunday that it would be the last time we saw him play for the Blades.

I don’t like say it as he was always a talismanic figure and was one of the biggest parts of our ride from the malaise of the L1 days, and as far as I’m concerned he has got a huge amount of credit in the bank with the Blades but I think this season it has been more and more clear that his race is run at the Lane. He didn’t seem the same player that he once was and had morphed in to almost a defensive forward who you would bring on with 15 minutes to go and use his nous to hold the ball up and kill time out of the game.

Thanks for everything and I hope that any departure can be on the very best of terms and as far I’m concerned he will always be held in the highest regard
Totally agree with you, whatever pace he had is gone to the point that if he got in behind the defence you knew he would be caught.
Great in the last 15 mins though as won fouls and generally caused a nuisance with good hold-up play.
The biggest compliment I could give him is that in the last few seasons he looked fitter and stronger each season, shows just how dedicated a pro he is.
But this season it’s reached a point where he has slowed physically, he needs to look to the lower leagues if he wants game time.
Best of luck to him as he has been immense for us and his drive and leadership have played a huge part in us getting back on our feet after relegation to league one.
Legend👍

3 Premier League goals a season isn't a huge mountain for a striker to beat. Teamu Pukki managed 11 goals in both of his spells in the Premier League. Not that I think he is someone we should sign.

The parade now becomes a celebrate Billy evening.
Flecky , Enda ?
Turning out to be a happy occasion

I just hope losing these stonewall players who where also big in the dressing room doesn’t effect the team moral which plays a massive part in any club .

I’m sure Billy would agree to something to stay on

Plus what’s the alternatives ?? Where else are you going to find someone proven for that amount if you are all about brilliant spending ??
£1 million per year for 10 minute cameos here and there just seems a lot of money to me. Maybe we have learnt something from the cost of Phil Jagielka's last contract with us.

Pierre Van Hooijdonk - the only man in Nottingham to ever go on strike.

Well you may as well play all the kids then if burning money is such an issue because spending money the Prince might not have the money to spend and still going down is burning money

Yes you provided an alternative, Fair play, you provided one that was about as likely as a list that said Messi/Bellingham/ Haalsnd and Salah, but you did provide one so

And there is a difference between being confident and actually playing out plus I would imagine in your head these contributions made would be made as starting players in team meaning you still have a bench and a likely need for a striker to come on and try and nick a goal in last 10 mins ?? I don’t recall you suggesting a better proven alternative for that specific role and one as cheap as one million for 12 month contract

That’s fair, again though my point is we are talking about an emergent off the bench for last 10 min option here, if it was starting or playing half an hour every game I wouldn’t be suggesting it

Yeh that’s fair, if we have more than I think then yeh I can see that

If we have a limited budget and the solution is to just go out and spend that on any striker we can find out there who might come and play for us then me personally I think it’s something we can do

But I get why many don’t want to, I just don’t see the cheaper alternative other than throwing Osula or Jebbo on because they are cheaper

.

The last time we raided the Dutch leagues for a striker with an impressive scoring rate we ended up with Michael Higdon.
