really benifits from playing with someone who shares the work load so he hasnt got to do it all, and a partner that actually helps make a chance for him once in a while!

Sharp plays better when he's not trying to remove the shirt and shorts of his marker before receiving the ball :)

And when he remembers that tiny insignificant point of being "on-side".

Sharp improves alot when he stops wrestling with the other player.

He seems to get that much missing yard or two of pace when he's scored as well.

Perhaps we could start playing him in the academy team on a Saturday morning, let him score a few and then he'll be buzzing for the league match :D

Nah... being serious, him and Henderson played quite well last night. My only concern is that the gap between them is sometimes too big and Henderson was getting left isolated. Obviously they need some time to get a partnership going... Henderson must feel very aggrieved after working so hard and not scoring, but Billy's goal was a proper striker's goal... very well taken.

He did OK last night. Personally would like to see him stay out of the gym a little bit and work on his leg speed (ask Delia the perv about the pecs and washboard!). He looks far more pumped than last season and I do feel that is affecting his pace ( not that he ever had loads). Can we get Darren Campbell in for a few training sessions???

Sharp needs to keep away from the channels and stay closer to Henderson

True.

Which Henderson was probably shouting for him to do on Saturday.

He does like to have a wander off our Billy.

To be fair this would be possible and something that both sharp and henderson would be more than willing to do, BUT only if we had wingers capable of doing there job.

Without players that are willing to work the channels and also run and get chalk on there brightly coloured boots henderson and sharp, or any other strikers we have or may have in the future, are unlikely to be able to roam the 18yd box hunting down the goals

he's useles in the channels and waists energy getting there. needs to be picking up the pieces in and around the box

Can’t lay all the blame at Billy’s door on his positioning.

Lack of wingers a slightly lazy strike partner and team instructions play a massive part.

Always wondered why a natural penalty area striker was never played in the middle of our 433 formation I am sure it would suit him down to the ground.

Most positive thing about beattie going is we might start playing sharp to his strengths.

If you look at minuets played this season and goals scored from open play ONLY there’s not a lot between there goal average this season.

If you're taking into consideration minutes-played, I'd hazard a guess that Sharp's was probably better!

i think billy try's to please the fans to much by running the channels and chasing to many lost causes, if he was to be a bit more selfish and just worked of hendo and stayed straight down the middle i think he'd score alot more goals for us....

billy's a van nistelrooy kind of player a penalty box predator, thats what he needs to do more of....... by the way he's no where near as good as ruud before any one thinks i think that!!!

mind you he had to do this cos beattie wouldn't!!!!

Yeah, because Beattie never worked hard when he was here

Sharp being a United fan is a huge disadvantage to his game, but an advantage at the same time.

It's an advantage because he knows if somebody who wasn't a United fan had his goalscoring record they'd have been hounded out of the club by now.

The disadvantage is that he tries to do too much, instead of staying out of the way of the play, and hanging around the box looking scraps. His first touch isn't good enough to hold it up and create opportunities for himself or other people, so he just needs to wait for the opportunities to come and (hopefully) bury them.

sharp has scored the same amount of goals as beattie has from open play this season, and sharp hasnt played as much as beattie, if sharp was the penalty taker, it would be him with 12 and not beattie.

At the end of he day Beattie has gone, so we are one striker down which means if Blackie is gonna play the same formation/squad sharp is pretty much gonna get games, the ball is therefore in his court, he needs to prove all of his doubters and blackie wrong and do what a striker does

He's not just talking about this season. His overall record at the Lane isn't a good one.

I'm not debating that this season, but overall his scoring record in league games 8 in 49 games (37 starts). For me, that's not a good enough return for the money we've paid for him.

what about his record under blackwell?, doesnt count under robson, everyone was shit for him, look at the difference in naysmith

Course it counts under Robson. Beattie scored under Robson.

Ok, so under Blackwell he's been better.

I'd take a guess that since he took over he's on 5 goals in 25 league games at a wild guess under Blackwell, 3 of which in one game.

Is that still a good record?

I don't think that's the point. The thread is examining whether he will become better "without Beattie", not "under Blackwell". If his record was tip-top already, we wouldn't be having this debate would we? :)

I know we wouldn't be debating it, but he made the point that under Blackwell he's been better, and I disagree.

I hope he turns into a better player now Beattie's gone, but I can't honestly say I've seen enough from him since joining the club to have the opinion that he will.

is it just me dose this seem billy him self thinks he may be better with out beattie?

taken from sheffield star

"Obviously it's great to be back among the goals again," Sharp said. "I've been working hard in the week and during matches but, for some reason, I've just not be getting the breaks. Hopefully that's all changed now.

"I enjoy playing alongside Darius and I think we work together well.
"It's something we put a lot of effort into in training - he is a big, strong player who can hold it up or produce some deft little flicks and touches - and then I try to get on the end of them."

The problem with Billy is he trys way to hard!!

Please Billy we know your a blade! Just be a selfish, lazy cunt for once in your life & get on he end of the flicks & crosses, like you did at Scunny! And loose some of that bulk as well kid!
