Wilder made 11 changes for the Wrexham game and we absolutely clicked in that match. Fuck knows what was wrong tonight.
More physical opposition. Pressed well and pressed consistently. Not good enough to pass around the press. It was limp and lethargic with zero cutting edge once Lead boots fluffed the chance JRS created. Nothing until Brooks and Hamer came on.
Can’t say Peck played that well but he still showed.
Gave the ball away too cheaply and the quality of the crossing was abysmal.

Poor movement? Lack of focal point up top? Poor decision making? Final ball lacking? Pick one
Can I pick more than one please?

The starting front 6 players were really poor, I’m startled that there was such a lack of movement. Says it all that Hamer was MotM for me, looked way beyond everyone else on the pitch!

We are desperate for players that will run in behind (as an option) either from wide or central. Our nice pretty passing in front of set defences is so predictable. We also have to have an alternative to Moore up front, that isn’t anyone from the squad tonight. Hopefully plans afoot even if we have to sacrifice Anel and/or Souza.

Shockingly poor tonight if it has told us one thing it is some of our young lads are not up to the job.
I don't remember Hampson or Marsh having much of a kick, Coulibaly was awful, Brewster again showing a few good touches but awful in general especially in front of goal. RND looks a shadow of the player he was. The rest pretty much average Rak Sakyi probably our best player 1st half. The subs did improve us apart from Campbell who looked way off the pace, all a bit too little too late.
Nothing at all up front I think even some of his detractors will be secretly missing Oli McBurnie. This side is short of 3-4 players good enough to start games if we want to compete or looking at it another way one or two injuries/player sales away from a relegation scrap. I still have my doubts about Wilder too, really as a team nowhere near good enough against a poor Barnsley side who hadn't won at home in ten games until we rocked up.

Ah well. 1 loss in 5 games. Here comes the end of days crew.

Had a good few games off?
The prince new all along that he is the right person for the job and he’s not so stubborn as to give Hecky another try.

Apart from Hamer (2) and Arblaster (2) out of 5 league goals.
And how many chances have we created for the forwards ? Have we looked like scoring especially in the 2nd half of games ? Has a keeper been made to work hard enough to keep the opposition in the game. 2nd half's in particular against norwich and QPR we had little creativity .
Think back to the chances we used to create with Fleck,Duffy, the wing backs and Didzy in their prime... who will do this for us ? O'Hare at the moment has been disappointing and I was surprised he didn't play tonight so he could perhaps play himself into some form

Wilder's honest aim is always to lose these games, so it's not worth reading into at all

Tonight was yet another example how you never really regret not going to a league cup match

If Wilder had any interest in winning he wouldn't have played Hampson and Marsh in the same team. Let alone fucking Coulibaly

We were absolutely wank tonight and the manager has to take some responsibility for it. How Coulibaly managed 98 minutes is beyond me. The two young lads in Hampson & Marsh are not good enough and weren’t v Wrexham. McCallum & Brewster are nowhere near the required standard either.

I don’t actually understand what our plan of attack is going forward sometimes. Brooks who whilst he has been exciting at times, I don’t think the kid has a fucking clue what he’s going to do with the ball at his feet, Hamer on the left is a disaster and when the ball is out wide ready to cross in, we have no fucker stood 12 yard out ready to put it in the net.

Tactically very poor tonight and it is becoming a common theme this. Not worrying just yet but the signs aren’t great because I don’t think this team is very balanced.

What the fuck Google! I know we played shit, but don't think we deserve that

Agree about Wilder, results and time will, one way or another. Only positive tonight was Rak Sakyi. To be honest felt like throttling Wilder for that performance. First half was awful as a spectacle and then Barnsley started the second half like they realised they had nothing to beat.

You forgot to give Trusty a honorable mention, for the time he was on he was also shite

We always do this in the league cup, we put out a team of youngsters and year after year we go out with a whimper, what do we learn about these youngsters, nothing. But when we put one or two youngsters in with mainly first teamers we see the real player, look at arblaster and Brooks, so do that in the league cup.
We've all been saying that with all the new players coming in that they need to gel, but yet we have the opportunity to gel the team in a game where winning isn't the be all and end all, and we "save" the players so that they can learn to play with each other where points are at stake, it just doesn't make sense to do this every year and waste a great opportunity to strike partnerships across the pitch with no risk

Fair point, hopefully he leaves this week

Or in this case Wilder doesn't give a toss about cup matches. Never has done either.

I just wish he would tell fans to keep their money in their pocket for these games.
If you haven't worked that out by now you probably deserve it. 😃

"Barnsley started the second half like they realised they had nothing to beat."

A perfect summary. I'm shit at quoting at the best of times....!

If Millers want Peck they can have him, shite tonight
They would be the last lot I’d be sending him to with the Coach driver in charge!!

Needs to be at a club with a more modern manager, not some aggressive dinosaur whose playbook is to be aggressive on the pitch and sulk when they lose.
I don’t think Peck’s attributes will be looked after.

I'm honestly shocked that any true Blades fan would think that we were going to field a half decent team last night.

We never pay any respect to this cup until around the 4th round (should we get that far). Which is why I didn't bother getting a ticket despite Barnsley being an easy away day.

I have no problem with us losing in the league cup - but Wilder should be honest with the fans that he wants out of the cups as well. His cup record with us is dire.

i think your spot on there wilder had no intention of progressing in this cup thats why he put the team out that he did of the youngsters only peck did owt remotely decent although poor i did like the way he kept showing for the ball hampson marsh sachdev need to go out on loan and we need minimum 3 possibly 4 players coming in who will genuinly challenge for a starting spot anel coulibally trusty and brewster can all go for me
