Can’t stand staton, hope he loses his job and the club he supports goes bust
I think Staton is excellent at his job.
Doesn’t stand any nonsense from stupid low quality callers…so he challenges them sometimes playing devils advocate.
This makes some callers feels intimidated and they don’t like the idea of being questioned/ cross examined about their opinion.
He also has opinions but sometimes at the start of the show….think he’s deliberately being controversial in an effort to attract callers.
The callers that make me laugh are those that ring up and say
Just ringing in because you don’t talk enough about Barnsley, Sheff Utd, Chesterfield….whoever.
So Staton replies, OK now’s your chance…what do you wish to talk about regards your club.
Caller then repeats…..I’ve made my point and have nothing else to say….and they put the phone down.
Staton then says something quite sarcastic….think that causes some of the dislike because he uses passive aggression and sarcasm to deal with the smallest of criticism from callers. He’ll explain he can’t magic up callers…..so if people want to hear more about their club then simply call in.
Also in order to hide his support for Sheff Wed I find he’s often more complimentary about us, often says Wilder is the easily the best manager he’s ever seen in the area and is more disparaging about Sheff Wed. Wednesday fans have noticed he often ridicules their club and some just assumed he must be a Unitedite.
I remember the Praise and Grumble celebrations a few year back.
All the presenters (who have long retired) explained that you might start off being a Blade or an Owl
But it’s a bit like playing football for both teams, they said you visit and work at both clubs, get to know the players and managers at both clubs really well.
So they all said that gradually you develop a genuine fondness for all the local clubs.
