I take exception to your inference that those people with family commitments or other such mitigating cicumstances that prevent the purchase of a season tickets are "fringe blades".

I will be renewing for two simple reasons. Firstly, I won't be tied up with work, unlike some others who post here. Secondly, I am in the fortunate position of being able to afford it. The only matches I will be missing next season are when I'm on holiday, and if I'm so ill I won't leave the house.

Apology accepted.........my interpritation of 'hardcore Blades' in this instance are the 14 or 15 thousand that would 'beg steal or borrow' to renew a season ticket at BDTBL and the vast majority of these Blades will renew.

There will be around 15k season ticket holders next year in my opinion; whether these are hardcore fans is another question entirely. I wonder whether, should we fail to win promotion again next year; those same hardcore fans will stick around for the wilderness years that will inevitably follow.
Let's hope we never have to find out.

Next season will be a VERY important season, get things wrong and i fear a long spell in the wilderness for the Blades, however i am confident a clearout will happen at BDTBL in the summer and QUALITY players will be brought in. This along with a new Head of Football Director type appointment will see the Blades achieve promotion next season.

I know a few people who stated this season that they weren't going to the Lane again because "United are shit".
Luckily, not everyone follows a club to see them win all the time, or we'd all be Manchester United fans. But to an extent, they're paying good money to watch Division Two football. Clubs can only rely on loyalty to a certain extent, before the fans stick two fingers up and take their money to another form of entertainment.
Football comes at the price of Friday/Saturday nights out for me. Other people make sacrifices elsewhere. I still live at home, don't run a car and don't have any chablings to look after. Any changes to my living arrangements might mean that spending £400+ every summer on a season ticket and £50+ every other week on going to away matches might come to an end.
It'd be interesting to see how they work season ticket/match ticket prices out with the ratio of price:fans. How much impact would a reduction of price make to the gate of Bramall Lane? While the prices are only going skywards across the city, I think now would be the time to find out.

I've only missed matches because of illness or holidays since the 1960's.
I started taking Foxy to matches when I was unemployed and had very little cash. I made lifestyle choices and always managed to find the cash to go.
My kids have never missed out or been neglected on other stuff either.
I understand it may be difficult but I will always make many sacrifices to watch my team.

This year was my 10th as a season ticket holder, so i have seen the worst of recent times as well as our brief flirtation with success. Right now i have far more pressing issues in my life then football and for anyone who cannot understand such a perspective; you have my upmost sympathy.
The bottom line here is that it all depends on your circumstances; i'll be at the lane for the majority of home games and a fair few away games next season and every season of my life.

Not getting at any long term supporter in any way.
But I don't do some stuff to save money towards football.
No mobile phone contract, don't go in pubs very often, wear cheap clothes, walk to the match and such stuff.
Life choices as I said.

Forgive my rants, i am still at work installing new servers as i write this so my patience has long since expired.
Fair play to you for being so passionate about the blades; especially given the ups and downs that you have seen over the years.
It's not a money issue for me really, more a period of my life where i can't gaurentee that i can make every home match. I'll be at the lane as often as i can and i guess i feel as though some (not particularly on here) were questioning my loyalty because of this.
I'll leave it at that because this could go on all night and at this rate by the time i get home it will be time to come back again!

I don't think anyone would say football is the be all and end all of life, but that they place it above other non-essential expenditure. For some people, going to the match is part of the routine like going to work and can't imagine not doing so. For others, life choices make it difficult and while they would love to go every week, sometimes they just can't.
Money is but one reason, but it seems to be the main one in most circumstances.

Will try to visit at least 6 homematches next season, was 4 or 5 (homematches) the last seasons....

Make that 14.71%! The cost of getting to and from the matches is too much. £299 + over £1000 in petrol (over the season for 23 games). Gutted but I'll be back the following season when I'm back to Uni up North whether it be York, Lincoln or Sheffield!!!

York Uni's quite nice, I went to its open day years ago.
ive had a season ticket for years now and im not renewing this next season simply because its cheaper to pay for each game seperately because of deals on offer for certain games ie wednesday night against plymouth a tenner
