"There have been reports in the past few days with regards to the two Sheffield clubs scouting in Portugal. Both sent officials to different Portuguese league games over the weekend, but there seems to be some confusion over which club attended the Benfica and Madeira game last night.
Earlier today we covered reports from Portuguese newspaper A Bola that Sheffield United were in attendance to watch Benfica on Monday night and they were joined by Atletico Madrid and Sevilla. Stade Reims, Tondela, Granada, Mallorca, Southampton, Kansas City, Albacete, Celtic, SC Braga, Osasuna and Zenit St Petersburg.
However fellow Portuguese newspaper O Jogo have contradicted this, and have stated it was actually Sheffield Wednesday who were on the scouting list, not their local rivals. A third newspaper Record has just gone with 'Sheffield' scouts at the game without referring to either United or Wednesday.
Despite these conflicting reports on who was in Lisbon last night it seems apparent both clubs are looking to Portugal to recruit players. More accurate reports from the weekend reveal Sheffield United were at the Estoril and Setubal game on Saturday whilst Sheffield Wednesday watched Porto’s clash with Belenenses 24 hours later. Sheffield Wednesday have been sending officials to Portugal throughout the season, and it seems their rivals across the city are now doing the same."
