Now I didn't know that. Thanks. I thought it was something that had gone totally out of fashion.
I remember taking my mother to Cole Brothers to buy a washing machine many years ago, when I was just a teenager. I don't think she'd ever bought anything from anywhere except the shops in the village. But I persuaded her that she'd have more choice and better prices from Coles. She picked the one she wanted and asked the shop assistant if she could have it "on appro". The shop assistant didn't know what she meant! Then when she explained, the shop assistant said, "oh, you want it on credit then - you'll need to take this form and go upstairs to credit management". So off to credit management she went with this slip of paper. They invited her into this room for interview. She emerged about 20 minutes later and said to me..."I don't think I'll bother". I asked why not, she said, "It was like I'd done a murder in there, questions they asked me! They wanted to know everything about me! I've never been treated like that before! I can go anywhere in't village and they'll let me have owt I want without paying. They can stick their bloody washing machine!"
Anyhow, none of this is much to do with Scot Hogan I realise - but thought I might just have a laugh whilst we're waiting for him to bloody sign!
