CONFIRMED Scott Hogan

Hogan "didn't kick a ball all pre season". The reason's been inflammation of his pubic bone, which "will keep him out for the foreseeable future".

Unless someone's lying this seems like an expensive waste of time? Even if he's improving at the moment, contrary to what Villa have stated, surely he'll need weeks, if not months, before being match fit?

Hopefully this is a smokescreen for someone else....I would seriously question the wisdom of all involved if Hogan comes having had no pre-season and just recovered from a serious injury..

As always, happy to be proved wrong. But I’ve a feeling this would be a big mistake and a waste of resources. If we’re going to gamble, I would rather we did so on an unknown quantity, with a good fitness record and some sell-on value.

Another one who will need weeks to get up to speed because of no pre-season, not mentioning a worrying injury record.

Not sure myself I have to say at 35k a week.

I thought he looked ok for villa against us last year. Think he would be an upgrade when decent strikers aren't 10 a penny.

It’s a Gamble but we have little choice left imo.

I've said it before but for a season I would rather take a gamble on Ross McCormack than Scott Hogan...

sounds like we're getting desperate if we're prepared to pay those kind of wages for someone who isn't fit.

could upset a few in't squad aswell.

I'd say paying loan wages is very different to paying contractual wages. This is more akin to a fee.

I don't think any player would get their nose bend out of shape over this.

Chris has mentioned repeatedly how brining in one player on x more per week then everyone else in the squad causes big problems BUT technically we aren't the ones who have set his wage so that might land a bit differently with our current top earners. It's not the same as saying to Billy, Coutts et al that this guy is worth 3 times your wage, more a case of Villa pay him this already and we would have to pay x percentage of this for the loan, but we'd never sign him on this amount. Maybe that would placate them?

Either way, doubt we are going to 35k for him and based on his recent form he ain't chuffing worth that.

Beat me to it mate.

So is he signing then...ticks almost all the Blade boxes..

We don't know that Wilder hasn't sat down with the senior players about this to check it' not going to cause unrest.

I'm sure ultimately it's in their interests for better players to come in, that's their route to more money anyway

It would appear much better if it was reported as, for example, a 750k loan fee and 15k p/w wage contribution.

Hopefully that's how it will be broken down. It could easily be the case, not that it'd make any real difference.

It just depends whether there's a loan fee in addition to the 35k p/w wage. That's how it could get silly. Paying just the wages would 'only' amount to around £1.3m for the season.

Sounds a bit worrying to me. If it's true then I hope the medical is a bit more thorough than we did for James Wallace, and that we have some clauses in the deal to cover us if he's not fit to play.

Wot I fink:

Wilder has done his homework.

He’ll know his fitness levels, his injury status, what we’re currently lacking and what he’ll contribute.

He’ll know the market - who’s available, who wants to come, and who represents the best value for us.

Wilder wouldn't sign him if he wasn't confident he'd contribute, and given how much money he'd cost, it looks like he's very confident.

That's enough for me.

Finally, someone uses some common sense rather than slate a player before he's even joined us based on not very much.

just needs to lay off the viagra, inflammation gone, sorted.

FWIW, I heard (from someone in the local media) that the difference between what we were prepared to pay Waghorn and what he wanted was £15k pw :( UTB
Waghorn was a permanent transfer Hogan is only a loan for this season so we'll only be paying his wages for this season

.

Well we might afford Hogan but we'll need to sell another family jewel to afford him...

Let’s be honest with ourselves unless we somehow get promoted then Fleck almost certainly is going to want to move on and test himself at Premier League level he will be at the age he can’t hang around any longer.

As an aside, it's a pain that this news has got out. Could make our job a lot harder. I reckon Nixon has been doing a lot of digging around Villa (just look at his tweets) and was given this as a way of encouraging other bidders. Same as Waghorn.

He might want to, but someone has to want to buy him to make that work.

If we signed this lad last year our fans would be absolutely creaming themselves and would be up our owners arse but because Villa medical staff are fucking useless and Bruce is a brainless twat who doesn’t play to his players strengths this is somehow a terrible signing because we’re paying possibly in the region of 30k p/w for a PROVEN Championship striker who has bags of pace which is what every fan wants. The club seriously cannot win.

Bags of pace? Who is he borrowing them from then? If wilder wants him good enough for me. He would have been in middle for some of those fantastic Stevens and Freeman crosses that's for certain tho on saturday
