Saturday's substitutions

McEverley looked like he hurt himself diving in for a challenge shortly before he came off. Obviously if he was injured then Harris was the ideal replacement. Personally I would have put McNulty on for Higdon and played higher up the pitch rather than put Reed on to pack the midfield but hey, it worked.

Would have took Basham off for Reed at half time and Mcnulty for Hidgdon, simply because Higdon and Basham were the worst two players on the field. McEverley picked up a knock so Harris was a good call.

Reed for higdon. Harris for Mceverley. What changes would you have made ?

Another striker for Higdon for a start. Probably McNulty for a bit of pace and movement against a tired defence.

I don't believe in taking off the centre forward to defend a lead. All you're doing is freeing up at least one opposition player to push further up the pitch. It invites pressure and gives them far less to worry about.

Tsk.

The substitutions worked didn't they?...and to think, lot's were slagging Nigel off of bringing McEverley in when we only had one proper LB...let's hope his injury isn't too serious.

Porter for higden, other than that whatever, I think ports would have got us a second .

Oops neglected to check porter was away at meadowhall with his missus in Ann summers. (Can't fault him) :)

Yes, he signalled to the bench that he got injured and was struggling to run properly

I didn't go Saturday so I don't know how bad higdon played, but reading on here it sounds like he was terrible... But after this post, it sounds like he gave the worst performance any player has ever given in a red n white shirt!

Higdon was having a shocking game and should have been subbed after an hour. The fact that NC would not bring McNulty on for him does suggest that the latter is another signing that NC seems to be having second thoughts about - alongside Butler & Campbell-Rice.

I'm always happy when we win, however we play (I thought we did ok 2nd half on Sat) - but I do worry that we are giving ourselves a mountain to climb again because of the lack of a quality striker.

Unfortunately Porter wasn't even deemed good enough for the bench.

And yet several of the goal line chances they missed were exactly the kind Porter was scoring last season. Must admit why Nigel persisted so long with Higden is beyond me.

In the game against Bristol City Higdon looked decent, and a threat until he got knackered. Surely he can't have just turned really crap overnight. Every player has a poor game once in a while. He could have been feeling unwell or maybe his mind was just elsewhere. I still think we potentially have a very good striker on our hands

From Nigel's interview today, the implication was that McEveley signalled that he'd finally run out of steam.

He did 90 minutes on Tuesday and 86 minutes on Saturday.

Clough then went on to say that McEveley has played no pre-season football.

I don't think he is injured - just knackered !

Pretty heroic actually, I thought he played well and I think he'll be a good signing that can play CB as well.

I think McEveley trained with and played one or two games for MK Dons this summer.
