Convinced he'll go on to better things and we'll make a profit.

Starting to see glimpses of what he's going to become.
And there you have it "he'll go on to better things and we'll make a profit"!
Sums us up in a nutshell, the only non- Championship level player we've signed in the last 12 months! 🤨

I like all of that bar Goldie, I’m sorry but he is no way a striker. Everything about his body language shouts out that he’s playing in role he simply can’t fill. Thought he was really poor today. McBurnie is the only player we have that offers an aerial threat. Wins nearly every challenge so we just need someone to play off him. Without him in the box we’re largely wasting our times putting crosses in.

The midfield selection is a new one, and while they've all got good attributes, you wonder if there's more need for know-how and experience to make it work. From Coutts to Norwood, Wilder has usually had a commanding playmaker in midfield. To compensate for that, to have a better link between midfield and the striker, McGoldrick may be needed more than another finisher in the box.

There are other types of link players/number 10s though, a more direct Brooks type would be also be interesting to see in such a team.

I thought Berge looked so much better when the shackles were taken from him when Norwood came on for Lundstram ,he doesnt get chance to run with ball in central mid but has some space when hes rcm. I think we would have won with that formation and the forwards from the start.

He runs quite fast but it looks like slo-mo because he takes huge strides rather than moving his legs fast
He’s an incredible footballer
He's a good player. Out of interest, what makes you think he's an incredible player?

I know what you mean, it's a long held opinion of some that we are a "selling club" and theres plenty of historical justification for that.

But in my view, unless you are one of the traditional top four, every club is a selling club.

I like Berge, I thought he had a fantastic game yesterday. But most likely, if he develops as we hope he will, he will move on at some point.

I've given up on the Brewster transfer if I'm honest. But say he had come, and gets 20-25 goals, he will attract attention.

It's just the way of things.

Burke would work instead of McGoldrick as a number 10 from what I’ve seen so far. He has the pace and ability on the ball to go past a man, but has decent vision and seems to love playing a threaded through pass to someone running in behind (eg. Bash for the penalty at Villa). I’m not sure what his shooting ability is like, but if he can hit one from the edge of the area, he seems tailor made for this role.

As much as I appreciate and agree with your comments, what I was alluding to is the fact that, with the exception of Berge, we have only brought in decent Championship players, which should we get relegated this season, early days I know but I've not seen anything from the back end of last season to now to suggest that we're in for a good season, will make us a good Championship side, unless of course our better players get picked off by promoted teams!
The facts are that we are light years behind the top clubs and years away from the rest. We can't compete financially with Villa or Fulham and only Burnley seem to be worse off than us financially and even that could change soon! (with potential new owners)
We've done well, no very well, the past couple of years and punched well above our weight, but now, despite Wilders comments about strengthening, we have been unable to bring in the class of player needed to compete and survive at this level.
I hope that we will survive for another season in the EPL, but the signs at the moment aren't good!

Our best midfielder by a country mile no coincidence that fans on here have given him the highest rating out of all of our players every game so far.

We need to build a team around Berge he is going to be vital for the rest of the season.

Yep the boys class , glides past players like there not there he's only going to get better , I was shouting at the tv " take it further and fuckin shoot " myself , I just hope he doesn't get disillusioned with the current position .

The way he just glides across the turf and the way he goes past people as if there are not there for a lad his size is immense he is deceptively quick for a lad his size too.

If I was Wilder I would be encouraging him to a go because he can take 3 or 4 players out of the game no danger.

I just hope we get to spend at least another season in the premier league after this because I dont want to have to see us thinking wow he could have been doing that in the premier league for us like we had too with many other players.

Obviously you don’t, I was being sarcastic. More then fact you can’t see he’s an incredible footballer.
It sounds a little like you're trying to convince yourself? He makes it look easy at times and is doubtless a great footballer but incredible, come on. In the modern era you'd probably have a case for describing Messi and Ronaldo as incredible players. Look at their CV's. Berge may turn out to be an incredible player in a top club with better players around him eventually but at the moment he's still young and learning. Just think you've gone in strong with your description of him. You're entitled to your opinion the same as everyone else. Nothing personal.

It's all relative

Ampadu in the holding role, with Sander and an attacking-minded midfielder at the side of him would be great.

A recruitment dilemma.

Do as you suggest (which is the ideal really), but then we must find a replacement for JOC before end of this window. And how do you find an overlapping brick shithouse in just a couple of days? Not looking likely.

Or...

Play Ampadu at LCB and find a new CDM to replace Norwood. Will be easier to find in the market, and Berge is performing better in the RCM role than at CDM. Plus Ampadu showed yesterday he likes to travel forward and also defensively would improve knowing he's a defender that's marking a man.

He has a wonderful laconic style it almost looks lazy how he appears to just walk past people, if only he can improve his passing up the top of the pitch hed be a force, he reminds me of a yaya Toure or jan molby

Maybe something like this in a few weeks?

Ramsdale

Basham Egan Robinson
Baldock - - - - - - - - - - - - Lowe
Berge Ampadu Fleck

McGoldrick Brewster

If we sign Brewster and he is the goal poaching machine that we are hoping for, then we'd be better off playing two no 10s...

------------------- Ramsdale -------------------
------ Basham ----- Egan ----- Stevens ------
Baldock ----- Berge ----- Ampadu ----- Lowe
------- McGoldrick --------- Fleck -------------
------------------- Brewster --------------------

Looks more defensive on the face of it but Didzy as a 10 has license to roam. Both pivot midfielders have the ability to drive forward with the ball (Norwood can't). And we should get the best out of Fleck too.

It's certainly worth a try.

I like the look of this. Two good ball and carriers in the middle. Fleck can drop in and McGoldrick swap out with McBurnie or Burke if needed. Would link things up well. But I reckon if we were planning this we would have kept Luke Freeman as more of a logical swap for Fleck in a more advanced role. Still, I'd love to see us give this a go.

Not convinced about Ramsdale ?

Yaya Toure from Norway.

Yaya Noure, if you will.

Seen this popping up on a few socials over the last few days. Excellent. Although, if this is going the way of the meme, I must stake my claim:

Now Yaya Noure, I'll give you, is a stroke of genius, but those similarities have been there to see since last season ;)

Ramsdale, Ampadu, Lowe, Bogle, Noure and Brewster all new to the team since joining the PL. Incredible really.

Claim denied 😉

As said elsewhere, it's Yaya Norway now. Works much better! But I did indeed notice the similarities in movement between him and Toure (not before you, of course).

Only quality player we have signed so far, god knows how we managed to snap him up
Perhaps he's recognised, being in the profession like, other qualty players in our side, managed by a quality manager?
Perhaps hes has ambition that matches our club's,based on realism, size of club, income etc.?

I imagine he is better placed than you to make such judgements in which case why the criticism. Are you sure it's not misplaced?

You sound a tad self entitled pal. I just don't get it. Why do you personally feel you deserve in your opinion supposed better quality? And by your reckoning,Rammers,Lowe,Bogle,Ampadu have no quality. Really? Chris seems to think so and I think he's done fucking miracles with our club in a very short space of time.

I have supported Unitet for 50 odd years and seen some proper shite for long periods. This is without doubt the most extensive and exciting period in my lifetime being a blade.

Why would you choose to look for something negative when there is so much to be positive about?
Anyway enjoy the season if you can. If not there's another team in South Barnsley that might suit you better.
They've got plenty to moan about.

Cheer up pal. UTB😉
