Completely different player but in answer to your question probably £15-25m.
Agree with that, Balham.
On the face of it, Pereira offers so much more in terms of goals and creativity but the reality is that he is a completely different ‘type’ of midfielder to Berge so comparisons on price can’t be drawn.
There is sufficient smoke around now to suggest that Arsenal believe that they need a player who fills the role that Berge does in the midfield - an essentially defensive midfielder who can break up play, dribble and recycle the ball to more creative/attacking players in the team. The only relevant comparison on price, therefore, is the value of other midfielders that perform the role that Berge does
The fact that Pereira offers goals and assists is irrelevant to Arsenal’s pursuit of Berge. It seems that Arsenal are not currently looking for a creative goal-scoring midfielder, but when they do turn their attention to that commodity, they (in common with all of the super-rich clubs) are likely to set their sights higher than the likes of Pereira or Buendia.
As we know, rightly or wrongly, when it comes to those key attacking roles, that’s where the ‘Big 6’ tend to push the boat out for the top end ‘proven’ established internationals from France, Spain, Germany etc. They don’t often take a punt on the top performers from Championship or yo-yo clubs - although perhaps they should.
