Outgoing? SANDER BERGE ON WAY OUT ?

There’s zero evidence that Berge will tear up the championship. Bettis will need another selling point.
You misread the post, not Berge tearing up the Championship but a new player to replace Berge that could tear up the Championship.

Apologies, my bad.

You might gather I don’t think Berge is worth anywhere near the numbers being touted, or that suggested by your post.

I hope you’re right.

We'll have to see what plays out I feel he'll go, the sticking point is the fee, and Chansiri has just revealed that Barry Bannan has a £37.00 release clause in his contract.

we have a history of taking the first offer of peanuts.

I don’t think we are in a particularly strong position as he’s clearly going to get sold at some point this summer. Our Best hope is that there’s a few bidders to drive up the price
Glad you said we have a history of accepting peanuts.......
Different set up now.
Don't forget 4m was our record buy before Prince took over
And he out foxed McCabe with ease

As to transfer fee again villa just paid 33m for buendia......tell me what he did in the prem as a player
We went down with 23 points Norwich with 21 ...so we were 10 per cent better
Hasn’t he just proved he’s got something with Norwich walking the league?

Sander Berge hasn’t had one outstanding game for us, let alone a season.

He looked good the previous championship promotion season but shows the huge gulf in quality between the prem and the championship
West Brom and Fulham players looked superb in the championship before coming up but neither got 30 points either

I mean, this is wrong isn't it? You're focussing exclusively on his time for us. Berge has had numerous very good games in both Europe and an international level.

He's been more than competent in a very very poor side in the Prem too.

I'm not saying that he's a shoo in for a 35m fee, but I don't think it's unreasonable.

Buendia’s stats for chance creation were top six standard though.. nobody at Utd came close, in either Prem season. I’m glad Villa have gazumped Arsenal for him though. They’ll be that bit more determined now to sign Berge - and we know the money’s there for Captain Scarlett to rebuild midfield.

And yet we finished 9th and they were 20th
stats of greater significance

Quite a few on here seem to have a really unhealthy dislike for old sander
Wonder what Pinchy would make of it all ?

I’d say he’s looked anything other than competent for us. Our game fell to pieces almost from the minute he arrived, though results kept up for a while.

Once again this season, results with him in the team were far worse than without him.

The valuations talked about cam only vibe based entirely on his time before us, and for me we massively overpaid.

The sale will be “undisclosed”, to save everyone’s blushes.

Shows he was outstanding and Norwich couldn’t defend to save their lives. He’s just played a large part in getting Norwich to walk the title in getting back into the Prem though.. proving his value consistently.

I don’t dislike him, he’s just not worth anything like what we paid.

If we’d paid £5m I’d say we’d done a decent deal.

So, we ignore the evidence from the rest of his career outside of his time at Bramall Lane?

And the performances with and without him and been almost identical; regardless of results. We were dogshit from first to last and our results were endemic of a dramatically out of form, fragmented side.

FWIW, I actually think that signing him was a mistake. He wasn't the right player for us. But then I think we'll look back at him in a few years time and sigh like we have done with numerous young players we've sold who have gone on to great great things.

No, I’m not ignoring his performances before us. That’s why I’d rate him at £5m (maybe £10) million pounds.

There was nothing in his performances for us that would support him commanding anything other than a modest fee.

The good thing for me with Berge is that if he goes I trust the board to negotiate a really good fee, if he stay I trust berge 100% to give his all.

He seems a really genuine guy that will continue to perform at his best while ever he’s here.

You see other big players in small ponds throw the toys out of the pram when they want off.

Looks like arsenal are looking at neves. If they get him, that will surely end their interest in Berge

We have a relegation clause of £35m. If no one pays that he stays with us.
My confident prediction - We will accept far less than that because we need to finance other deals - and nobody will pay it.

I'd largely agree with everything you have said about Berge but i keep coming across players that have gone for crazy fees despite having not done very much for anyone.

This morning this lad was proposed as a potential signing having just been released from Everton - Yannick Bolasie

Signed by Everton in 2016 for £25m having scored 9 premier league goals in 4 seasons at Palace.

Now aged 32 he has 44 league goals in his entire career and is apparently a forward

There are dozens and dozens more I could provide as examples. It seems the problem is less what we paid for Berge, Brewster and Mcburnie but more that we didn't buy enough of them to land lucky on a few.

Football markets and player values are like cryptocurrencies, in that they have no inherent value outside of a very specific market.

Essentially they're only worth what people are told they're worth, or what people believe they're worth, by "educated" voices within the field.

A lot of those "educated" voices are saying that Sander is worth a lot of money. Whether people (clubs) believe it or not remains to be seen.

It’s not just Berge is it. All of our players are struggling to attract reasonable fees for one simple reason, they were all shit last season. No other analogies required.

Cant find it now ,but his results record at United ,played and not played is incredibly bad. I dont understand the protection he gets ,he hasnt looked anything like a 5 million pound player in one game for us. As one very well known ,much loved ex blade said to me 'he a fucking carthorse'. I wouldnt go that far ,but dont see what he brings to a team.
Cant comment on his previous as I had never heard of him before we signed him ,but Ive got a mate who has played the Champions league, and even beat Porto. Facts can suit any situation if required.
As for his price tag ,he must have a very very good agent.

30 million less ?
I’d expect us to deal at £15m. Given the way many people rate him, I’m happy to accept my personal valuation (5-10m) is possibly low.

I think it’s totally fanciful to be talking of fees in the region of £35m.

Genuinely - where / who are these educated voices that place a high valuation on him?

Fair enough ! Only time will tell I suppose
