Sky Sports News report that Arsenal and Everton are at the front of a host of teams considering a bid for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge this summer.
Arsenal are said to have an advantage in the race due to assistant manager Albert Stuivenberg’s connection to Berge through their time at Genk. Mikel Arteta admitted in November that his assistant likes the player.

I’d love to see him in the Championship, hopefully a couple more games and he finds some form. He looked half fit today

Doubt he’ll be fully fit before the end of the season he pretty much tore his hamstring off the bone I’d imagine it’ll take a while to get used to sprinting again.

Arsenal may be the destination for Sander Berge with assistant coach Albert Stuivenberg a big fan of the Sheffield United ace, former Norway international Erik Thorstvedt has told TV2.

It isn’t often an assistant coach rather than the manager or sporting director is driving a club’s interest in a big-money summer target.

But, according to Sky, it’s Stuivenberg’s presence in the Emirates dugout that has Arsenal leading the chase for Berge, the Bramall Lane powerhouse with a £35 million release clause in his Sheffield United contract

Stuivenberg, an assistant coach to Mikel Arteta in north London, was in charge of Genk when Berge was making his name at the Belgian Jupiler League giants in 2017.

“(Berge) is already very mature. He is intelligent, reads the game well, and takes the initiative. He has the potential to become a future leader,” Stuivenberg told talkSPORT recently.

£35m will buy us a very good championship midfield. Alongside players like Norwood and fleck who will be fine next season. I would put money on the team who signs Norwood from us to go up, if we were to get rid.

Fleck has an excuse as he had and played through a bad injury.
Norwood uses more energy pointing than he does tracking back or making a challenge.
He was never quick but has now lost what bit of pace he had, is mentally slower cabs still gives the ball away in dangerous positions at least once a game. Great at pinging it wide when no pressure on him but that will not create many opportunities and as for protecting the back four which is surely the responsibility of a guy who sits in front of them it is a NO!

oh dear - let’s hope we’ve not been so idiotic as to make the release clause half of what we actually paid for him....

😬

I think its a case of lost in translation. Would make alot more sense if it is a decrease in 12m. Why would anyone agree to a clause that would make you hemorrhage even more money. 🤣

I’d be inclined to call bullshit on that one plus for 12 million there wouldn’t be a top division club in Europe who wasn’t bidding just because you could turn an instant profit on it.

Doubt that very much and if it is in anyway true Bettis should walk

Sheffield United and Norway midfielder Sander Berge, 23, has a release clause of £35m and not the £12m that some reports have mentioned. (YorkshireLive)

Been reported we've turned down a 17m bid from Arsenal for Berge. We are looking at around £30m+ for him. Good job McCabe isn't here
Expect it will rumble on especially if it is going to be a depressed market this summer. Would be nice to see u it’s stick to our valuation especially so early in the process.
