Michael Ball expects Everton to make late move for Sander Berge

Everton will make a late move for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge if they manage to offload fringe players before the transfer window shuts, according to Michael Ball.

Berge is facing the prospect of competing in the Championship after suffering relegation with the Blades last season.

Everton and Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Berge since Sheffield United’s relegation was confirmed, with the 23-year-old having a £35million release clause after suffering the drop – higher than his £16.2m valuation on Transfermarkt.

The Toffees, under new boss Rafa Benitez, have been eager to get some out-of-favour players off the wage bill and former Everton left-ball Ball feels the Merseyside club may look to sign Berge shortly before the window slams shut at the end of the month.
Higher than his £16.2m valuation? 😂 like that matters or is even real anyway.😂

Because the player wants to move on and the club needs to act in order to address the shortfall in revenue next season (despite what you may hear to the contrary).

The release clause is a red herring - if a club offers that, Utd have no choice but to sell. They can of course accept lower offers and/or structured offers if they wish. They may well include performance related fees.

Do you really think the club will retain all its main assets beyond the end of the transfer deadline?
The player hasn't come out stating that he wants to leave! Where do you get your info from?

Seen online that Arsenal are looking at offering 75m for both Berge & Ramsdale. Obviously BS - but I cant see us turning that down.

75 million for both we’d trip over ourselves to accept it would mean they’d pay 40 for ramsdale which is a massive jump from 18+ add ons rising to 25. Got to say I’m bored of being linked to arsenal transfers because it’s an absolute media circus around their club because of how rabid there fans are

Why would we do that? If he has a minimum fee release clause, by all means they can stagger the payments but that won’t include performance related fees.

We’re playing hardball because we want to keep him. And we absolutely should be.

Don't waste your time mate, his Sheffield genes won't allow him to think big

I could see Everton throwing the £35M needed at it, that's about how much they paid for the bag of wank Iwobi.

He wants champs league football thought right? He won't get it at Everton. He might get a FA cup last 16 though..
Not sure he does. Everton would be a significant step up from us. They're well backed, have a solid manager finally appointed and they'll give him a platform to earn that move to a top club if he performs. From his perspective it would make a lot of sense.

Sure he wanted champions League football, they've had a superior manager (last season) yet still didn't come anywhere close.

Arsenal 'planning DOUBLE swoop for Sheffield United duo Aaron Ramsdale and Sander Berge' as Mikel Arteta continues summer spending spree to overhaul Gunners squad

Arsenal are set to be considering a double-raid on Sheffield United for goal-keeper Aaron Ramsdale and midfielder Sander Berge.

Mikel Arteta has been chasing Ramsdale for some time, but his interest has re-emerged in Berge after unofficial talks seemed to cool off earlier this year, according to The Star.
The Gunners are thought to be baulking at the Blades' £40million demand for Ramsdale, believing an offer of £30m is more appropriate, but United are not moving.
However, as a compromise, Arsenal are reportedly willing to table a sizeable offer for both Ramsdale and Berge that the Blades, as a Championship club, would find difficult to turn down.
For his part, United manager Slavisa Jokanovic has made it clear he has no intention of selling either player.

Reported in the Sheffield Star???
We only need Nixon to say he had heard similar and we can put our house on it
How many stories are the “Press” going to regurgitate about the sale of our two main assetts.

I wonder if anyone will panic buy at trigger the £35m release clause on deadline day. Very Arsenal thing to do

Some nobody on Twitter earlier this morning mentioned a double swoop for these two and tag in a few tabloids. He then sent laughing emojis, 3 hours later. Got to be a wind up, secret footballer style.

True tho BushBlade, starting to piss me off more than Villa, they need to walk the walk tossers. because all this does is unsettle players and teams.

Genuine question: Are release clauses generally structured with a buffer period before the end of each transfer window (ie the release clause is only valid until say 23rd August)? It seems stupid to agree to a condition that leaves you open to a swoop at a minute to midnight on deadline day with no say in accepting it and no opportunity to get a (permanent) replacement.

Very good question - I’ve also always wondered how release clauses work in the context of how the buying club makes up the consideration.

Take selling Berge for 35m, in a non-release clause scenario part of the negotiations would be about how much the buying club pays up front and how much in instalments (and other negotiations on add-ons etc)… what happens in a release clause scenario - can selling club say “he’s yours as soon as I see 35m pounds in the SUFC bank account and not a minute sooner!”

presumably not, just curious.
