Probably partly because this new lad seems to care, McNulty not so much.

Perhaps because the vast majority of us make no connection between relatively minor off-field scrapes (in both cases) and performance on the pitch. McNulty simply isn't very good. He's confirmed that in his inglorious non-striking spell watching Bradford City's first team. Carruthers, we shall see.

You've potentially got a good player he tends to over play, he'll run with it and do flicks and tricks then cock up a five yard pass, he doesn't score enough in fact hardly ever. He has the odd hissy fit if things aren't going his way. He could suit your team time will tell.

It needn't be if we bag ourselves a few players who blend in with the emerging ability Wilder has forged. If we have a strike partner for Billy Sharp (and as people have said, cover for his absence), a winger ... ooh, like Murphy ... who has goals and assists in him and possibly some reinforcement at the left back/wing back, then the run in to May will be interesting.

Oh, and we don't need to sell anyone who is doing the business for us, or course. Like before. And before that. And before that as well.

There is no way McCabe will get rid of any player that Mr Tufty Wilder wishes to keep. In case you hadn't noticed things have changed this season down at Bramall Lane.

On the face of it this looks a good signing.

Strengthen our squad whilst weakening another. (although they wont be challenging us any time soon!)

So we now look well stocked in midfield.

So what now for the likes of Reed, Scougall?

Will brooks be sent out on loan?

Brooks needs game time, maybe a League 2 half season would be a good thing? I like what I have seen of the lad, although that is only half a dozen times.

What has changed, Bert? New manager (like last time, and the time before, etc, ad nauseum)

Is Bert saying his ITK spidey-sense tells him that Mr Tufty has had McCabe up by the lapels once the ink died?

Or maybe McCabe has finally realized no cunt wants to buy this club and he's stuck with his melting pie of an investment? Except at last, after four or five air-kicks at the ball, he has finally put his laces through it and got himself a good team manager?

Let's put it this way. Let's us both, pommpey and Bert, hope and pray the daft git doesn't sell our midfield this month and stays on programme. pommpey would hate to see Wilder in a pissed off state.

He's playing for a good manager now though Paul

Decent Signing for me.

Right age, right experience and talented by all accounts. I think the biggest positive is that he adds a good level of cover - I felt we were only an injury to one off Duffy, Coutts or Fleck away from a down turn in form because they are so vital to the way we are playing this season.

I reckon Wilder had to make a load of big, quick decisions when he was first appointed, dare I say the Board had a remit.

Since then he has recruited his Head Scout.

If we think we have seen a difference as yet, just watch it from now.

The club has momentum, the manager is developing his own dream, players start to want to share it. When a player sees all that he wants to be part of it.

Our manager has the luxury of choice and attracting players WHO CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Some of our recruits in the summer were relative to cost/ expense. We are starting to spend next year's revenues.

Wilder will now show us some very good players who can play in the Championship.

None of our recent managers have had the opportunity to build from strength. The Board will see their dreams fulfilled at long last. A manager who knows whats what.

Alright Paul, I'll say it. Thanks for the insight into this lad, like you say time will tell.

He sounds like another Jose Baxter type i.e. Has talent and the potential to be an excellent player.

He's the right age, bit of a character and a battler, hungry for success and joining the right club at the right time. Also Wilders no nonsense approach seems to have the knack of getting the best out of players. Could be a WIN-WIN situation for both SU and the player.

We already have some excellent ball players very comfortable on the ball in our best midfield in many years.
Looking forward to seeing how he settles in.

For the past 5 years I have been saying (mainly to myself) that the best way to get out of this league is to sign the best players from this league especially the younger lads with potential. Well done Wilder.

Just a shame star players from teams around us are pretty unobtainable.

Is anyone else livid?

Yesterday we get a new player at the start of the window. So of course we are rightly expecting more signings everyday now.

24 hours later ......nothing. Is that it Wilder? Is that it Board? Pathetic.

My shoes are being loosen'd and if I don't see a couple more quality signings by Friday they are coming right off.

I was thinking before the window opened that it's the first time for a number of years where I couldn't get too worked up about what happens in the window. Yes, a couple of signings would be very welcome, but it just feels so different from even 12 months ago, where we were absolutely desperate for better players.

I doubt I'll be counting down the clock on 31st Jan for any reason, although it would be a disappointment if Desso roll the pitch up and take it away...

It's certainly been one of the most interesting times in United's recent history Trig. The only difference I see is that we're now in for better players, not has-beens, not tired old warhorses that we once chased for ages. Wilder is now applying a healthy criteria to the business of signing players who he feels are capable of moving us forward. It's a great time to follow this club, and at last we have a manager and team that we believed we'd eventually have to take us forward UTMB

This is an excellent signing - SC can play in the Championship (has already done so) and is a younger age, so will get better.

Well done Wilder and the board.
