CONFIRMED Sam McCallum

Did well and deserves to stay in the team based on that performance. I'd be tempted to start Burrows higher up. I know he's not in great form, but he really is another level when it comes to chance creation. Without him and Hamer, we're going to really struggle to carve chances.

Given how Barry was performing, I was thinking at the time "Hmmm wouldn't it be a better move to put Burrows on the left wing"
 
I thought he showed his limitations again tonight.
Maybe it's because I have a bit of a downer on him, but he does still seem lacking to me.
Hopeful punts down the line which rarely reach one of our players and loose passes still plague his game imo.
Better in recent weeks though to be fair.

Was always a competent left back before joining us, a good signing on a free at his age.

We're lucky he's stepped up and played well, rather than average, at a time when Burrows was playing shite.

Our resurgence in performance has coincided with him coming into the side.

What he lacks in technical ability, he makes up by being the beat athlete on the pitch. His vertical jump is unreal. I've never seen him lose a header!

I agree I was the same.

Previously he seemed to just clear everything instantly but now he's happy to carry the ball and pass and move.

We're definitaly a lot more solid defensively now with him performing at his new 'level'

Wilder is good at developing players and working on their strengths and developing them into a role.

Growing game by game and I feel he'll chip in with a few goals as well.

When Burrows came on and played that crossfield ball to Brooks I think it was I turned to my brother and said that's never happening if McCallum is playing. Tricky becase he has been pretty good recently, and does well to win a load of headers, but Burrows does add something attacking if he is on it

It was good to see him take that shot on in the first half after playing a good 1-2. Hit it hard and true but the right height for the keeper. Burrows is very good at keeping the ball low and to the sides

Personally felt he wasted a really good opportunity to take an extra touch and find a cut back for a tap in. The shot was powerful but straight at the keeper

Sam is an elite level athlete

Harrison is a poor athlete

The game gets more athletic year on year. I really do wonder why we persist in bringing in short, dumpy, slow (albeit technically gifted) players, whereas every other PL/Championship club are recruiting 6ft+ decathletes....

As a clue, our resurgence has coincided with bringing in Seriki and McCallum, probably the two best athletes at the club

Nobody is being perfect this year but he probably just edges it in being the stand out player in a sea of poor performances. Every year we seem to have one player that does better than anyone else and so far he is the one who has stepped up. Its evident when Burrows comes on McCallum is way above him.
 
Honestly I thought he looked ropey on Tuesday.

In terms of actual quality, I think Burrows is a far better player, but you can't really argue against McCallum being in better form right now
 
Its all about present form for me and not what you can do.

Burrows started the season in poor form and was responsible for several goals conceded.

McCallum has come in and played well for a very high percentage of his game time (IMO).

McCallum stays in for me as there are obvious signs of progress in team performances and results, in which McCallum has more than played his part.

McCallum is better defensively, he is one of the best we have in the air, he takes a great long throw, he takes excellent corner - Burrows is better going forwards and crossing - McCallum clearly adds far more to the overall team.

It’s blindingly obvious we are better with him in the side at the moment, it’s his shirt to lose, Burrows is a very good player based on last season but Sam is more consistent at the moment.

We have so much more energy and va va boom with him and Seriki at full back.

When we have Burrows and Tanganga there we look flat, one paced and turgid.

Fair play to Chris for noticing this and doing something about it!
