I think we should have considered his team mate at Peterborough, Jack Marriott. 22 year old striker who they signed from Luton, good ability, can run with the ball, create for himself and has scored 5 in his last 2 games. He's a bit like Shaun Miller. Started scoring at a reasonable rate last season (12), although not prolific. Fancy him to kick on now and get towards 20 in L1. Remember reading that his family are Blades fans too.

We did. Been on Wilders radar for ages.

Not surprised, they were in L2 at the same time and he'll know all about him. Do you know if we bid or is consideration as far as it went?

I feel like he's one we might have really pursued if we were still in L1.

7 figure loan fee

Yep, I'm expecting it to be at least £1.5m. Fulham paid something similar for Chris Martin last season I think.

In that case it wasn't a possibility for us, and I hope he signs for someone else ASAP, so if for any reason we were waiting for him hoping something could happen, we can now move on and get real with plenty of time left in this window.

We need pace more than anything anyway, and Gallagher's not that type.

We need pace but we also need bodies with Clarke suspended and Lavery seemingly out of favour and Hanson leaving. We will get a striker in but the nearer the end of the windo2 the more prices will increase

T'old wobblegob was complaining on Football Focus last week about clauses in loan agreements for young PL players, stating that their wage for each week they DON'T start/play can increase to as much as double. So kids on £12k a week will get £24k a week if the gaffer decides he's not up to scratch or out of form.

He then signs three Premier League loanees (they've got two in from Arsenal n'all)...

I saw a headline saying 'Redknapp won't pay inflated prices' the other day.

LOL. Yes he will. It's all he ever does. Like that other useless cunt Bruce. Both share the same utter disregard for their club's finances.

What Redknapp probably meant was 'my club haven't got the sort of money I'd like to spend'.

Pity if he's going to BCFC as I think Utd would have been a good loan move for him, providing a better chance of starting games than at the other clubs who were apparently interested.

Agree that Utd could do with pace but with Hanson on his way out and Clarke suspended for 3 games, height and physical presence is in short supply.

To be honest we could do with both height and pace. But it's unlikely we'll be signing two and if you had to pick one, it's surely pace.

He'll start every week for Birmingham, I think that will have swung it in their favour. They're probably one of if not the only club who'd pay the loan fee and offer guaranteed starts.

Unsurprising that huge fees are being demanded by prem clubs - it's turned into another revenue stream. In the past it would have been loan with the expectation they develop and come back into the first team

Now its Buy up a load of promising players for say £1m - recoup most of that in loan fees and then sell on.

Sad really as it doesn't benefit the players imo.

This....and when you see some of the loan fees that are actually being paid, it's rather frightening. We couldn't even afford the loan fee.

Birmingham have signed Carl Jenkinson on loan from Arsenal. He must be on a fair wedge too.

If people are looking at strikers from league 1 then alfie may at Donny might be a good choice has an eye for goal and looks like he's got some pace

Absolutely. He's a must get. At the age of 24, he's played 23 games at a level high enough to register a statistic and scored 5 goals.

Gerriminatallcosts.

Speaking to a Donny fan mate earlier and apparently he isn't being started despite scoring in their last 2 games I wonder why

Gents, I have a question.

Would you all be over the moon if our club spunked literally millions of pounds on someone else's players for one season?
Birmingham have just done that on players from the premier league. Players if I'm honest I'm not that fussed about.

Jenkinson was at one of the worst defending sides in the premier league. He wasn't even a regular for them, yet because he's an Arsenal player he costs a bomb. Don't be surprised if he's another player who suddenly drops away once he's left his first big club.
This Gallagher lad....weight of expectation, and will find the difference between the championship and lower half premier league in terms of standard ain't a lot. The players who make a big difference are the fast and powerful types who have the lot athletically but just need to learn the game in a less pressured environment. Not sure that his game is like that, and he will be reliant on service.

I would sooner we paid that money securing the best available from a lower division or abroad, who we are pretty much 100% certain is going to improve and earn us a profit. They may as well have burned that money....it's like renting a house for £800 a month when you can buy one with a mortgage for the same money. Buy the right house at the right time place and you make money.

Buying a house will likely solve the need for height, but pace ? ..........

Why isn't this thread closed? ?
Move along people.
Disagree gav. Think it goes to show how the market has changed since we were last in this league, spunking money is the 'thing' now. As much as we don't want to take part this season could be a defining one sorting the 'haves from the have nots' of football. Much as I like McCabe he doesn't have the clout to make us a 'have' club.

Do you? I tend not to clutter my mind with musings about nonentities I've never heard of and who play for other clubs.

We ❤️ Thought Time.

The star has brought his name up again, normally means there’s some sort of enquiry. But I imagine at this stage of pre season everyone has been talked about.

He would give us the big man option and had a good record before joining Birmingham. Could be a decent one to buy as a project for CW.
